Of all the dozens of coaches I’ve watched on TH-cam,Simon BY FAR talks the most sense AND explains in layman’s terms. When I get to carus green I will definitely be pre booking a 2 hour lesson with him. Such a nice guy.
Love when Simon does not say, "Liam, ya plum-pot..." and instead tells him, "I know patience is your strong point." LOL Thanks coach for bringing us back to basics.
An amazing golf swing lesson by Simon. His teaching that a focused mind and repetition of the golf swing are essentials to having a consistent golf game is right on target. Liam, I am so appreciative that you are providing the Golf Mates with lessons from Simon who is a top-notch teacher and obviously a quality and impressive human being.
Missed this one when it came out - great advice re the focus points especially dropping underneath, club face square and making sure the club handle pointing right. Old habits always sneak back when we stop concentrating and revert to just thinking about hitting a great shot , or worse think about a dozen things to try and gain more distance .... but Simon's lesson is the simple basic things we should focus on.
I have watched a ton of your video's and I have always noticed that when you are actually playing, you don't swing like you do during a lesson. I have gotten my swing to be better, but like you, I fall back to old faults over time. This one lesson has really helped me... March on...
Liam, a bit of advice from a sports psychology student! Look up active listening.. let the man talk and listen to the advice he’s giving you. Your head is away with the fairies whilst Simon is trying to explain things. It seems you’re more focussed on the quality of the video than your own game and it’s something I’ve noticed from other videos, lack of attention and focus over the ball, still having conversations in your pre-shot routine. You’ve got the ability you know that, just get your pre shot routine in order, a bit of positive self-talk ‘nice and smooth’, ‘commit to the shot’. Stand over the ball, focus, go through your routine and hit!
I reckon that’s because he 100% has ADHD. It is impossible first him to concentrate. Both my father and brother are exactly the same. I’ve seen them desperately try to concentrate, and it is literally impossible for them to focus. It’s really sad to see. Both of them failed every exam they have ever taken, and I would wager the same applies to Liam.
@@edwardsrobayou might be right. For what it’s worth I think Liam does an amazing job with the channel. You can tell he gives it his all. Well done Liam and the rest of the team!
Been like this all through the years I’ve watched this channel, gets a lesson and improves for a bit treads water then repeats the process. Been in this movie several times
@ yeah, couldn’t agree more. After I wrote it I realised it sounded like I was having a pop, but that definitely wasn’t the case. He’s done amazingly well in setting up and running one of the highest followed golf channels on TH-cam. I’ve got nothing but admiration for him
Got to remember, this probably isn’t solely to help his game but to help all the Golf Mates that may have the same or similar problems. If he shut up and listened it wouldn’t feel that we were involved and we may switch off. Well done Liam keep up the good work. ⛳️⛳️🏌️♂️🏌️♂️
Love Simon's teaching, simple and easy to see and understand. I worked on this last winter and my handicap went down a couple and I was hitting much more solid shots.
Thanks Simon. Most TH-cam videos have new techniques. You teach , scold, and teach again the basics. hope I can do what you teach. Thanks Liam, this live lesson is great
Get Steve Barlow there for a series of lessons - screaming or kicking. We all know he won't want to but a business class seat on your next overseas long haul adventure should be persuasion enough - maybe LOL
I love the advice simon gives makes it very clear to understand. The videos he has done has really transformed my swing and I don't swing over the top anymore either also my slices with the driver have almost gone entirely 👍🏻 Great video
Great video. Keep watching it repeatedly. I've got a slight fade and never draw the ball so I've been up the range the last 5 days and been going through the same routine and it definitely works so thanks to u both. When's the next progression drill coming out as i can't wait for that.
When returning to the coach and having to repeat a drill, have the patience to take on board what the coach has said and don't be in a rush to short circuit the drill. This inevitably lead to an early return to the faulty swing remember patience is key. Well done Simon patience it's self.
Great refresher for Liam and what a great instructor Simon is.Not relative to myself as have different swing flaws and my divots never point left but great info nonetheless.
This is absolutely fantastic. Can't wait to get to the range with a few alignment sticks next week. Could you do the same again with Driver next please? ⛳
Years ago i spent months using an umbrella doing this exact drill, reversing the loop i had in my swing like Liam, it took 1000s of practice reps and hitting 1000s of balls before i could hit a consistent draw. And still do this drill from time to time to this day.
@garystride5200 I saw the drill using an umbrella in an old book, probably back in the 80s outside on way back, under and inside on way through, did smash a few umbrellas before I got used to the move when actually swinging and hitting
@@richyclubsport5155 great stuff tonights over expansion of a simple drill, I just switched off afraid and Liam bless just wanted hit balls have fun which he didn't have, padding out his best content which I adore with training vids ain't gonna catch on, Danny Maude destroys this,,, easily best online and there are so many others.
I saw this loop trick video a few weeks ago, so it’s fresh in my mind. Also the basket video to help with coming over the top. Highly recommend. Can’t believe Liam forgot lol
Really interesting as always Simon. One of the big problems I encounter is that lessons and practice in the UK is normally off mats rather than grass. It’s difficult to get the instant feedback from a mat? Love the simplicity of your explanations though.
Patience and practice = improvement! Ben Hogan said, "The answer is in the dirt". Tour pros hit bucket after bucket every day in practice! Thanks for another great video Liam and Simon! ⛳🏌♂️ Oh, by the way happy Christmas!
I vaguely remember the loop was shown in a previous lesson, but not in such depth as it was part of a longer overall lesson, and yes, I also forgot to use this bit in my practice..... I`m sure he mentioned its importance, but I must not have attached enough importance to that one little bit of info..(Due to my own impatience to just hit the ball...). Will try again. Great lesson, Simon.
Liam you’re as impatient as pretty much as everyone that picks up a club. The good thing for most people that aren’t you is that we’re not producing some of the best TH-cam content there is, and so we get the chance to hit the range or just go play a round and practice the swing process without too much consequence. Thanks for doing your best to entertain us, but take the time to make yourself feel comfortable with your game to 👌👍
Simon is such a good coach. We, amateurs, need to progress as we did in school: Kindergarten, elementary, junior high, high school, university and then graduate school. We can’t graduate or move forward until we know the current lessons and pass the tests. Cheers.
Being a student of simon’s last year Liam, I’ve found that when I’m actually out playing I imagine the alignment stick set up is behind me , this has helped me , maybe give that a try when your playing ?👍
I use a tee peg just in front and left of the ball to practice forcing me to hit across. But I like this lesson teaching better muscle memory . Good luck with the practice Liam .
Simon is the perfect golf coach for Liam, because he understands that Liam has a habit of reverting to the same old. Ingraining the swing mechanics takes time, which Liam struggles to do. He knows he is impatient, but maybe, this time, he will stick with more practice, and get the swing that remains with him for longer. He has, by his own admission, played some of the best golf ever this year, and enjoyed every minute, until the wheels fell off AGAIN, something the GOLFMATES recognise, like the lifting of the hands, before takeaway, not good, but usually precede his game going Pete, Tong. Best of Luck with the Practice Liam, I am with you on this, I have been working at my game, after an end of season collapse. I too have booked in for a day with Simon & Adam, in 2025. I am not a golf lesson lover, had bad experiences in the past, when pro's destroyed my game, changing too much. Put me off lesson, for a long time, always good at fixing other peoples swings, but not my own. Your lesson video's help, used some of the techniques already, to improve my game. Thanks to Simon, & Liam, honesty, with your golf coach, is always the best policy
Some of the best lessons are those where simple actions in other scenarios apply to golf. One of the best things I learnt and subequently say to all new players is swing the club using your body like you skim a stone at the beach. You wouldn't stand still and use just your arms you load into the right leg and create lag
Liam, I am never going to take the opportunity of a cheap shot at you over the "never done this before". But Simon's deadpan reply is comedy gold, "Go back and watch your own channel". 🤣LMAO.
Liam, If you look at your own videos as I have and you slow them down. You do not usually come over the top. At leas not enough to make a real difference. But just before you take the club back you raise your hands to what is closer to the swing path but that leaves you toe down, ie with an open club face. That is part of the open face problem and Simon is not talking about that.
Swing like Jim Furyk for training, I struggle with OTT swing for years. Always unconsciously falling back into the slight OTT struggle. Slight fade tells me I'm not where I want to be with the swing! Tried everything humanly possible with no long term fix. Once I told myself to "forget about distance" when I'm over the ball, my swing self corrected because I was no longer over swinging or trying to "kill the ball" and chopping from the top. Liam bit of advice, make sure you go back and watch not only this lesson with Simon, but all of them. And when you do look at everything, not just the golf component. It's really clear that your mind is racing and it's racing to be better, impatiently so and it's the details that count and that takes time. I'm with Liam, I believe I've watched them all and don't remember this loop trick. Somebody please post a link if you remember. I like it though and will be practicing because I've got the same tendencies as Liam.
Liam I don't know why your not using your noodle and basket like you do with driver hitting draw after draw it works with irons aswell, make another vid using your irons good luck.
Not sure the title reflects the lesson. I know i can benefit from this as I'm getting shanks every now and again which gives me a lot of fear. What's the stick and how do I get one?
Liam, you're using the top half of your body to swing. Start to use your lower body more, and that will give you time to drop the club inside. It's basically a lazy top-half swing. Enjoy using your legs, ankles, and feet with rhythm. It will all drop back into place. Simple.
Practise make perfect, golf would be a really crap game or not as interesting, if we had to put no effort in to it, and just turn up on a Sunday morning and tee off. One of the things I had to get my head around was, yes I'm paying ££ for the lessons and only doing drills, but it's what the drills get you to that's important. some great progress mate. In winter I never take a score card out with me, I can tell if I'm hitting the ball well and the conditions can destroy your card as well, plugged lie's long grass, just simple put the practise in and transfer to the course.
Liam is just like the rest of us , he got lazy and complacent, should have gone back and watched the previous videos he made with Simon . Just like I did .
Of all the dozens of coaches I’ve watched on TH-cam,Simon BY FAR talks the most sense AND explains in layman’s terms.

So I guess I'm saying it was more of a mental thing for me and I'm now hitting it further and straighter/baby draw than I ever did. Go figure. It's a quirky game, lol
Good work , just not enough reps so that your neural pathways allow you to make the desired movement yet. Sikorsky swing there is a lot of moving parts 😂
I was expecting Nicks third lesson today. Squaring the club face.
You may have said and I might have missed it, but is this the same with driver?
Yes
Liam, youve done that loop drill with McKinnon and Maude and Simon.
Where do I get the block that holds the alignment sticks?
Simon is the best
Here here are
Good luck liam , watching now i no how your felling ,
Happy new haircut Simon.
Why are you looping the swing??? Straight back and through with the feet set for the draw???
Liam you are luck Ricky Flair didn’t put you in the figure four leg lock and batter you into to submission.😂😂😂😂😂 great stuff with great people.
I guess this is why the tour players consistently spend time with their swing, putting & mental coaches, The good/better players do the dirty work
Simon talks an awful lot of sense. Keeps it nice and simple to understand
He so dose
You’ve had this lesson from every guy you have ever went to.
Rinse and repeat
Does the same apply for The Driver?
I'm with Liam, I believe I've watched them all and don't remember this loop trick. Somebody please post a link if you remember. I like it though and will be practicing because I've got the same tendencies as Liam.
All lessons in the Sunday fix playlist on the channel Jerry
Don’t have time to practice you on the course almost every day, I wish I was
You reckon. 1 a week if lucky
@ but being on the course making videos you are getting to play with work, it’s more than most people do
Liam I don't know why your not using your noodle and basket like you do with driver hitting draw after draw it works with irons aswell, make another vid using your irons good luck.
Not sure the title reflects the lesson. I know i can benefit from this as I'm getting shanks every now and again which gives me a lot of fear. What's the stick and how do I get one?
It ment I have had this lesson b4 and I can’t move forward until I master this move
@ I know but it reads like it’s a shit lesson. But it’s a great lesson and to be fair to yourself you nailed it pretty quickly.
Liam, you're using the top half of your body to swing. Start to use your lower body more, and that will give you time to drop the club inside. It's basically a lazy top-half swing. Enjoy using your legs, ankles, and feet with rhythm. It will all drop back into place. Simple.
You’re loosing it mate. Simon is brilliant. I’ve watched the original lesson with you a few times. Great drill.
Simon❤
WOW,A golf coach that actually wants to know what the pupil wants, "theres a thing",
Practise make perfect, golf would be a really crap game or not as interesting, if we had to put no effort in to it, and just turn up on a Sunday morning and tee off.
Yes I've pressed Like
Liam is just like the rest of us , he got lazy and complacent, should have gone back and watched the previous videos he made with Simon . Just like I did .
So true
