I have a huge smile on my face!!!! They were like a blend of retro and modern with their voices and even choreography. It’s like watching the Temptations with the fancy footwork and 5 Michael Jackson’s & Tina Turner at once (made a correction). That’s Cindy tapping?!?!? Yas sis!
Back when people but on a performance and nobody questioned if they lip-synced or not but they had already proved they can sing, it was about showing that they can perform
i knew cindy had to have some sort of dance training...when it came to choreography...she always nailed it the most...this performance proves it...she broke out some serious tap...also, we all know they can sing and 99.9% of the time sing fully live with no background track...for them to have mics on for an obvious lipsync would mean they were trying to fool the audience...no mics means 'you know we can sing, we aren't choosing to do so for the sake of the overall performance...thank you.'
Real talent...not a budge, or a mistake, or a slip and fall. If it was today, they would've rehearsed for days and still couldn't get it together and blame it on the mic and slippery shoes, lol. Long lives real talent!
Watched this the night it aired, the next day at college, my friend Darin and I were up and down the halls of school doing the opening harmony followed by the "foot stomps and strut" down the halls. LOL We just plain didn't give a SHART! GOOD TIMES!!!
To the clueless one who posted this clip(thanks though), this is from the 1993 Grammys. En Vogue was not performing as album production was still being rushed in early 1992. Either change it or don't be surprised if you keep getting corrected.
This was just a performance nothing to do with their actual singing ability cos anyone who has ever seen them live will know that they have probably the best live vocals of any female artists in the history of music. I bet Beyonce and Kelly were inspired by them when they were young.
Dawn is the only one with the two left feet people tony gaskin choreography and he said it years later it was hard to get the choreography for her but her beauty is breath taking
@juytrew actualy frank gaston was en vogue's choreographer and is beyonce's as well. he got the inspiration from the "hey big spender" (look it up on YT) skit and frank gaston have put the inspirations in both en vogue's and beyonce's/destiny's child's performance....beyonce didin't "steal" anything. blame frank gaston.
Janet does sing live! I saw her in concert last year and she was singing breathing hard the whole nine. I could tell, because you heard her backing vocals and she was singing lower and breathing hard. Her voice was kind of shaky and at at the end of the show she lost her voice, almost completely because of it.
well be mindful that frank gatson (The same man who choreographed dc3 and beyonce's stuff) did en vogue's stuff as well. so that may be a big reason why there are such striking similarities
i disagree with the comment that cindy's voice was the weakest in the group she just have a different vocal range than the other girls and its a good thing too b/c they took what they individually had to offer to make the group great. it is also great they dont sound alot b/c only cindy could sing lead on hold on and only dawn on dont let go and only max on my lovin and terry on dont go. cindy said herself that she studied classical opera the others just studied rnb uniqueness isnt weakness
En Vogues new single "I'll cry later" is released to radio 26th September 2011. Dawn Robinson will not appear on their upcoming album, though she will continue to tour with the group.
En Vogue's choreographer at the time , Who is Frank Gatson. has also been Beyonce's/ Destinys Child Choreographer. So if you see any comparison's i would blame him for recycling his choreography then i would blame Beyonce.
Cindy, though having a beautiful voice, has the (arguably) weakest voice in the group. but baby, what she lacks in vocals she more than makes up with beauty and style. the precision of her movements are SICKENING (in a good way)! the gurl is just BAD
This isn't 1992, please change it as it's from 1993. This is the 35th Annual Grammy Awards, not the 34th. The song was released nor performed until March 1992. The song was barely finished in January and getting final touches in February 1992.
Destiny's Child had the hype, En Vogue had the talent. And I do like a few Destiny's Child songs but the En Vogue harmonies were as tight as it gets and their songs had tinges on Pop/R & B/ Rock and they did them all right....and in a classy way!
destiny's child came out a whole decade after En Vogue and said they were one of their biggest influences, why are you comparing? lmao And Destiny's Child also had really tight harmonies.
@@marchorton2903 Look im not asking for your explanation. I have never seen them lip sync and they didn’t need to for this performance that’s my opinion. Im a big envogue fan an this is something that is beneath them to me. So no matter what you say it won’t change how i feel
Uhhhh...ok??? Like what does any of this have to do with En Vogue?? @Tonster1998 this is the only time ive seen them lipsync but it was just for performance and they did great. Britney Spears lip synces all the time and sucks at it
Sir Jeff I was thinking the same thing. She copied the entrance part of the performance also, most notably during her more recent shows for both versions of the On The Run tour.
i miss female groups it looks like nobody wants to be in a group everybody wants to go solo danity kane pcd destiny's child we need more groups to entertain us on award sows like this does anyone agree?
I just want to say that it's a TRAVESTY these women don't have a single grammy yet. Not that they need one to validate their incredible talent...it's just disconcerting to think of acts that have one over EV. This performance alone, despite the lip sync, just proves they are an elite talent that can certainly hang with the heavyweights. I mean come on...5 damn nods and no wins. They grammys get it wrong a lot but they really dropped the ball on this one.
Because this is show business and you can't pull a performance like that off and sing live without people like you and me saying it sucked. Sometimes being the best is wearing a push up bra and weaves but when you do that you don't seem to be ashamed.
The laughter at the end was awesome! I'm such and En Vogue fan to this day!
I love Dawn's hair in this. It looks fantastic, she was always takin risks with it and sometimes they were fails lol
the girl groups out during that time, ENVogue was the most glamorous, TLC was more street, SWV was kinda inbetween

Ridiculous that they never won a Grammy!
Exactly
