I've had my 440 since nov '16. Love the learning experience I've had. I paid it off with a production run of nylon parts in the first year of owning it. I am looking to buy something to sustain what I am doing currently as far as machining jobs. I do predominately small brass parts for fixturing I design for an eyewear company. I was considering a 1100MX but, after thinking about it...why not just buy another 440 for 1/4 the cost? I don't need frills and a big fast machine to make the dollars. BUT MAN, if I hadn't really re-thought the plan out, I'd owe 4x more for the same work I'm doing today on my old 440. Love your vid. Thnks Bro...
@@cadlabCNC Oh crap man, I placed the order this morning before I saw this :/ .. regardless, I look forward to seeing more videos involving the 440. Take care!
I'm going to buy another one this month too! I had my 1st one for 4 yrs now and I'm keeping quite busy with it since. Perfect for what I need making brass fixtures. Almost bought a 770mx, but can't justify it as the 440 is just right per dollar. AND rigid enough for titanium etc...no brainer buy for me.
@@cadlabCNC I'm talking about drilling holes. I tried for a few hours the other day to figure out drilling a 5/16" hole in 303 stainless and couldn't find anything that worked without stalling the spindle. This is why I said I wished for more power for drilling. :)
Man that machine is crazy, can't wait to get mine, thanks a lot for your videos, i'm doing all i can just to afford a 440 and start making some titanium prybars. It is hard to find a 440 here down in México.
It is my pleasure to make these videos.. I try to be myself and have a blast. Thank you for your Sub. If you want to see more follow me on IG instagram.com/cadlab_official/ I’m always posting short clips and art on there!!
@@cadlabCNC Too late lmao. From what I was able to gather, it depends on ramp angle. I adjusted according to what I could find out. So far it's going pretty well, but I'd like to hear your take as this is my first Ti job
Would you trust the 440 to do cuts on slides for optics? Looking for a small machine that can fit in a basement since I don't have a garage currently but would be able to make a small side income with
@@cadlabCNC Awesome thanks! Love the work on IG makes me way more confident in getting a 440 and being able to do the things I want even without a workshop area
What is the cost/time comparison between casting metal vs. milling metal? How many burs do you go through on average per piece? what is the cost of burs? casting uses a plaster-investment as the main manufacturing cost.

I’m picking up a 440 tomorrow. I would love to see a video on using the probe and tool setter if you have not already done one yet
Machine good but ur talent for show us Is the best my guy 🙏

Thank you for your honest thoughts on the 440, I plan to buy one this month :)

Yes please make both videos one for the probe and one for the tool Height setter
I’ve done the tool height setter let me know if this helps CNC Crash, During Tutorial

Is this worth saving for? I’m 15 and trying to get into making knives.
I think it’s a great machine to start off with. If I had the choice I would go with a bigger model.
I'm down for the probe video...I have a tormach 440 love it. But still learning.. would like to see how to set up and all
GRISSOM Knife & Tool I can make that happen. I’ll do a set up for probe set up for the ETS
@@cadlabCNC that would be cool. And maybe mention where you got everything...
GRISSOM Knife & Tool check out there links in the description. I have everything used in this video and where to get them
I picked up a used 440 from 2015 and just started milling stainless on it. Can't believe it can do it! Just wish it had more power for drilling.
The 440 is a little beast. When I drill with the Tormach I do smaller pecks. Just my own 2 cents
@@cadlabCNC Anything over maybe 1/4" hole without also pre drilling with a smaller bit first and it just stalls out.
@@briandodds stalls out???!!! Interesting!! If you don’t mind me asking what’s your width of cut?
@@briandodds mind you I’m not sponsored or anything by Tormach. But I am also interested in problems and learning lol 🤓

It would be greatly helpful if you listed the tool you are cutting with, and your selected speeds and feeds. Thanks for the great content!
I’ll take care of that for you next cutting video! Your absolutely correct. There is a lot going on there.
@@cadlabCNC Specifically ramping feed rates, and ramp spindle speeds. They the same as your milling speeds and feeds?
Norse Forge no they aren’t. If Have time today I’ll write them in the comments for you guys

The 440 how does it work on SS
It will defiantly cut it no problem. I would recommend taking a big width of cut. Nice and light with good speed will get you a nice part.
