@@goose7574 The dad (Donald) did side with his wife, as he should have, when grandma had a problem with her, & did speak up to grandma & the uncles (Donald's brothers) when his son (Donald Jr.) said John had exposed himself to him. This resulted in Donald being estranged from them, so in those instances Donald did the right thing.
It sounds like grandma & the brothers were a tight group that was hard to be up against & that Donald Sr. never really got his life on track on his own financially then had a major set back when he & his wife divorced. He probably resented grandma for excluding him in inheritance bc he had done the right thing in speaking out against John exposing himself to Donald Jr., & grandma planning to leave her estate solely to John & the other brother, when he was struggling so much. Sounds like his resentment got the better of him & he killed them. I'm not supporting what he did at all, he deserves to be in prison. Just saying there was some background that seemed to lead him to do this.

There seems to be an irrational exuberance about Donald Junior. As if Ted-Bundy-good-looking type of guy = good guy.
In fact I feel sorry for Donald senior who I believe felt lonely and abandoned by his wife, son, mother & maybe father as well. He sided with his son and wife when his half-brother pulled the sex stunt. He did his filial duty, regularly cooking for people who had little appreciation for him. He seemed like a good guy before the killing.

Classic defense attorney move implying that the son's testimony is motivated by greed related to his family inheritance. Complete, utter failure on the defense attorney's part. First, the prosecutor established the fact that the witness stood to inherit if his dad is convicted, so the defense attorney looked like an unprepared, ignorant fool simply repeating the prosecutor's questions. Second, the defense had plenty of time during direct exam to guage the son's credibility and should have seen that as a witness, he is direct, fact-based, emotionally mature, and unapologetic about the probate lawsuit. This is one of those times when "No questions for this witness, Your Honor" is the better cross examination tactic because the defense proved nothing new with his questions,, and this sympathetic, credible witness's answers to those pointless questions just made the defense look ignorant and petty.

So far it’s not been brought up but I think it’s important to know whether Voncille was married to the Defendants father and whether or not his biological father or was it his stepfather who reared him. Being reared alongside his two sons and possibly as his own is relevant. Bitterness and deep rooted resentment could have formed in his early years that imo is vital information to know as the murders were so brutal.

Donald Junior seems extremely angry. I don’t know why everyone is going on about him being a great man. Honestly Americans hear military and they automatically think that makes him a good person. He seems to blame his dad for what John did.

Donald jr is the sole heir of the family and deserves to inherit him families money, and I do believe in Karma even though you were born of the love your parent's shared at one time it's not your fault the marriage didn't work to which made you become estranged from the family because of your grandmother's feeling's towards your mother and you as well, you are worthy of this gift that was placed in your lap not of your own doing of course but none the less it has it's either you or the Government left to inherit your families estate.

So now it's all about how handsome and gorgeous this man is blah blah blah. How you can't believe the defendant could have sired someone like this. And that's probably from some of the male commenters too lol. You people are ridiculous! Shallow in the extreme.
What is the point of this evidence? They were incommunicado. They did not speak, did not live anywhere near each other, Jnr could not possibly have anything relevant to say. And it sounds very close to hearsay.
He has a vested interest - if Hartung is found guilty he inherits the lot. Instantly.
    I don't like him.

@@glamdolly30 you've just made my point by describing the defendant as a Munster. His appearance, mannerisms etc are irrelevant to his guilt or innocence. As is his son's right to an inheritance relevant to the quality of his evidence. Shallow.

I agree. I've watched the whole trial up to this point and I still have reasonable doubt.
My relationship with my Dad is very similar to that of the Hartungs. If he were accused of murder tomorrow, there is absolutely *nothing* I could add to the case, either for the defense or the prosecution. It would be like testifying about a stranger.
