best soap opera ever - imaginative, campy, mellow dramatic, great story line, ahead of it's time - all the ingredients needed for a winner. Never been another one like it. My mom used to watch this show religiously - after I got her hooked on it as a little girl.
This is great! I'm a DS fan, have been for years. Now I live in CT - an easy drive to Collinwood! I know it's now a private home, but I'd be content just to see it from a distance. Looks like a summer journey might be in order. You did a great job on this video...I especially loved the ocean shots. Thank you.
Thanks for this wonderful video, it's nice to know it's still around. What a shame about the Old House, I believe the place was deserted in reality too. "Collinsport" is still around, don't recall the name of the place until I get my books out again.
Thanks tons for this. Oh, man, that unforgettable Robert Cobert musical score! I taught myself to play "Josette's music box" on the piano when I was seven. I was thoroughly disgusted when DS was cancelled in April 1971. There was even an article about it in the Weekly Reader. We had a brief discussion about the show in my fourth grade class that day.
The first voice over was the very first episode, the final voice over was the very last episode. I shot the video myself when I was in Newport a couple of weeks ago. The house is used as a dormitory for upperclassmen from Salve Regina University. To my knowledge the house is not open for tours. and I too wish I could live there!
When I saw the rocks in the opening sea shot I thought how they looked like 40 Steps area in Newport. Guess some things just never leave your memory when you have seen them enough.
Ran Home from Catholic School Everyday to Watch it I was 11 yrs old in 1966 Favorite Characters: Barnabus Collins Willie Loomis Elizabeth Collins Stoddard Carolyn Stoddard Vicky Winters Maggie Evans ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
We were just there in person two weeks ago. The Carey's who own it are wonderful people and are now in the process of restoring it. The Salve Regina school is now out. The inside of the mansion is wonderful!!! It's every bit as fabulous as the outside. One of the guys in our group knows the Carey's personally so we were able to explore "Collinwood" for a whole day. It's actually called "Seaview Terrace"
I'll be going wildly and insanely crazy in living in Collingwood, the Old House and along the ocean waves running wild and screaming all over the DS area scenes.
In my next life, I will either buy or build this house. It will become my dearest home, not only for me but for my descendants for the next 1000 years,. It will be called COLLINWOOD.
However the interiors of this house are nothing like the "set" they filmed at. If I had the money I would design a house with the same interiors as the show (somewhat limited). The big front doors, staircase, and drawing room. Oh and I can't forget those stained glass windows!!! My husband would think I was nuts but that's my dream house!! Lol
Nice video footage of the house. I enjoyed the the show's opening and closing audio sequences serving as a framing device. One can imagine Victoria Winters stepping out for a quick trip to Collinsport. It's very clear to see that the ivy growth has been removed, as it was apparently a threat to the condition to the building's facade.
This is now a privately owned residence, they've let all the hedges grow so you can no longer even see the house. Plus they have no trespassing signs on the property, they're not very friendly.
Great footage, but that isn't the actual location they used for Widow's Hill. The real location is located along the Cliff Walk, just down from the 40 Steps, right behind Ochre Court, the old main building for Salve Regina.
Always loved this show. Robert Cobert did a fantastic job with the atmospheric music. The same great work on the original "The Night Stalker" tv movie, and "Dan Curtis' Dracula". Guess he was Dan's go to guy.
I have never seen the entire production of DS - all the way to 1971 when it went off the air. I now am in the process of watching the re-runs on DVD. I finally discovered how it all began. I think it was the best when Willie and Jason came on to the show. Things started to pick up from there. Sincerely, JAMES.
The only thing that scared was watching House Of Dark Shadows where Barnabas killed everyone who stood in his way because he wanted Maggie Evans to be his bride
Robert Yglesias That is a great movie. I read that the way Barnabas and Willie died at the end of the movie, is how that storyline was supposed to end in the tv show. When Barnabas became such a fan favorite, they didn’t kill him off. Thank God.
I toured the one in NY used in the 2 DS ovies It is really cool! The old house used on the show was on that property, but it burned down. Id have to find someone who lived in that dorm to show me around. You know they ave to have places it there where they have parties.
check out 4:25 minutes into the video, and pause at the window...I don't know about ya'll but I swear there is someone looking out of that glass door!!!
WOW!!! Thanks for posting this. I also loved the show, ran home from school each day to watch it, also wanted to live there. So nice to know it is being restored. Yes, it would be perfect if Johnny Depp used it for the new movie. I can't wait as he will be perfect as Barnabas, maybe even better than Jonathan Frid.
Wow. Does this ever make me emotional. Is there any possibility of you making it an option to see this with the "Watch in high quality" option now available here on You Tube? Thank you so much.
OK I know someone has probably brought this up already but being a fan of Dark Shadows I would like to know where this house is and if anyone still lives there.
The ratings have been going low since the Leviathan storyline. Jonathan Frid no longer wanted to continue his role as Barnabas after the 1840 storyline. Dan Curtis had pretty much lost his interest in the series as far as coming up with anymore storylines. It ran from June 27, 1966 to April 2,1971. We can be grateful there is a good number of episodes to keep us entertained.
their only one place in the world. like this. a place high above sea a place called collinwood. i due have fond menories of collinwood. i due reminese.
What a shame, that big grassy area is perfect for horseshoes, been bags, volley ball, or a softball game. It wouldn't matter to me if it were mortals or immortals playing.

Love this video of my favorite house in the world, Seaview Terrace! Love it from the first time I saw it on the DARK SHADOWS TV Series!

The house is called Seaview Terrace. The Spratt(Old House) House burned down back in 1969.

It's very clear to see that the ivy growth has been removed, as it was apparently a threat to the condition to the building's facade.
Beautiful home.
It's so good to know the 'big house' never changed through the years. I know 'the old house' burned down years ago.
i really like this old video. it take me back to that time.
This is now a privately owned residence, they've let all the hedges grow so you can no longer even see the house. Plus they have no trespassing signs on the property, they're not very friendly.
My dad has always wondered what happened to this house.
Neat to see it on Google Maps.
I would love to spend a week there.

outstanding old video. it take me back to that very time
i can forget it.collinwood. it part of me.
One of my favorites is when they went back in time..
Which time? 1795, 1897, or 1840? They were all great...
Always loved this show. Robert Cobert did a fantastic job with the atmospheric music. The same great work on the original "The Night Stalker" tv movie, and "Dan Curtis' Dracula". Guess he was Dan's go to guy.

There are some new adjustments to the property but they've really kept it in great shape
I'm dying to see it all again. Hulus throwing some .110 to 290 episodes . Now we got 1060????? Show us more 🇺🇸👏
TUBI has the entire series if you would like to watch it there.
Yes Tubi has all 1245 episodes!
That was really super. Thanks. I am doing a drawing of Collinwood. Your close-ups will help me see the big picture in detail.

The Carey Mansion.
It also looks like the house used in the credits for scooby doo

fan of darkshadows
I am a huge dark shadows fan my kids want us to move there in collinswood
Awesome, thx for posting!
Does anyone know where the house is that they used for the "old house"?
Love this
If you go to "53 Marine Avenue, Newport, Rhode Island" on google street view, you can see part of the house...
the correct address is 207 Ruggles Ave Newport RI
She's as beautiful as I remember
I absolutely worship DS! If i had the money i would buy that house! The old house too!
+Ivan Izell Sadly, the house that was used for the exterior shots of the Old House, was destroyed by fire in 1969.
4string59 Oh no! I did not know that!
+Ivan Izell yes! I would visit you!
it was sold. an now is a school
Great video, these takes are better than the ones in the show
That looks like the mansion from the scooby doo intro

Thanks for uploading this! Were shots of the estate also used for the most recent Dark Shadows movie?
+Steven Cohen No!
It's creepy how they record the footage by zooming in and out from outside the estate like they're spying or something lol
Looking for ghost in the windows
Brian Rapoza you replied!! 😂
I come from there and never even visited it yet.
Slomofogo I live in Miami and never go to the beach either!!! Lol
@Ullyvonpiv where exactly is that mansion at? i always thought it would be great to go have a brandy with quentin! please let me know
In Newport, Rhode Island. Sadly, not open to the public.
