    The best sounding drum sampler I have ever heard - at least in the context of current music. There are of course some spectacularly good sounding samplers fromt he 80s and 90s (SP1200 and Akai MPC 60/3000 come to mind), but for today's sound I can't thing of anything that sounds as good as this unit. It's a fucking beast, and at least in terms of sound it's what I've been looking for for a long time. Anything you put into it comes out sounding better (and not just drums - anything).

    Would I effectively be able to sample from my smartphones headphone jack using an Aux to a 2 line 1/4 TS jack,
    In order to be able to bypass the need for a cdj?
    At the moment I am still unsure as to what I am able to use as a sampling source. And not being able to play audio files that are longer than 64 seconds has put a speed bump in creative processes.
    I don't want to pre chop ideas before putting them on a flash drive and was really hoping to get away from using the computer altogether while brainstorming.

    • @djmattplay
      @djmattplay 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ant Dog you can definitely sample this way from your smartphone. There is a gain adjustment knob on the input. The SP-16 can listen to the input and determine the BPM. Then you can set that BPM as the project BPM. This way you can grab perfect loops quickly and easily with the Live Sampling function.

  • @abisho12
    @abisho12 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey, does anyone know if the toriaz can quickly change pad sheets? I hope that makes sense. The only way i can explain my self if anyone has ever played with the ddj sx or a machine studio, it gives you the option to pull up a new sheet of pads instantly.

    • @djmattplay
      @djmattplay 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Amanda Bishop Yes. A set of 16 sounds is referred to as a "scene". You can instantly change scenes by tapping the "scene" button and selecting one of the 16 sequencer buttons. 16 scenes can be saved into one project for a total of up to 256 sounds within one project. Each scene can also have 16 patterns, for a total of 256 patterns in one project.

    • @abisho12
      @abisho12 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You have been such a great help Matt. thank you. I was also wondering how to put my own samples into Toriaz? I plug in my usb with sample and it shows up on my toriaz but the actual samples dont show up? do you know why?

    • @djmattplay
      @djmattplay 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Amanda Bishop you may have too many samples in the folder. I'm not sure what the limit is at the moment, but I know if you are over the limit, the folder will appear empty. Try putting just a few samples in a separate folder to test. Also check your file format is compatible. Hope that helps.

    • @lancepage1914
      @lancepage1914 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would want to be able to do that with those analog filters this machine possess. Hence the hefty price tag on it.

    • @jbforce10
      @jbforce10 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lancepage1914 It seems that from this demo, it's a single (stereo) analogue filter just on the main outputs, not per-voice. if playing a polyphonic sequence via a MIDI keyboard, all notes would just be through the same filter settings and not an individual filter for each note like a traditional polyphonic sampler.

    • @djmattplay
      @djmattplay 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      jbforce10 the analog filter is on the master by default but also can be assigned to any one track.
      There is also a multimode Filter in the internal FX that can be loaded onto any tracks insert FX slot

    Can anyone point me to some demo of this machine which is not a techno/house? This seems to be a alternative to Octatrack, and I can find a lot of OT demos that are experimental/IDM, trippy stuff... Based on specs, it seems that this thing can also get into that territory, but can't find anyone who is using it in that way...

    @kennywowie 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    will this unit allow you to have a composition with differing meters and lengths of patterns withing the project? These demos NEVER ever address these issues which happen to be the only way I would use it. Yes, I want 7/8, 9/8, 5/8 to co-exist alongside the same old 4/4 that everyone insists on with these products. Perhaps the demo covered this and I missed it. If so, sorry.

      Yes of course they were considered professional. I could be wrong about this but I think the sample playback limitation was directly related to the RAM, - just like all other professional piece of equipment that was brought to market until the arrival of the Pioneer SP-16 Professional Sampler. So, how much RAM does the SP-16 have? Get my point?

    Interesting piece and I wish I had it, but a stand alone piece to produce music seems a little odd to me tbh. I'm not a producer though, but it seems like people would choose a computer audio workstation that allows all their plugins with the typical visuals they get from their computer screen. I saw that serato added some production like element to their Serato DJ program called Serato Studio that allow people to use a controller to make music. It'd be awesome if Pioneer implemented that into rekordbox. I have a ddj 1000. It'd be awesome to make music with it outside of just making a basic beat with samples and recording it in performance mode.

    • @exiles_dot_tv
      @exiles_dot_tv 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've made music on a computer for years. After a while it gets really boring. Working with hardware feels far more "alive." It's like the difference between reading a book in your hands and reading one off your smartphone.

      I'm curious why you think this unit is overpriced? Is that in comparison to Akai's MPX16, Roland SP-404, and Korg Electribe or one of the computer based controller brands? I've taken issue with the SP-16 on many levels but I've never taken issue with the price. I think one of the last workstation samplers made was the Akai MPC5000 and the market price was about $2500. Of course, the MPC5000 was a real sampler workstation too. As an audio guy, I do know that high end quality outputs contribute to the cost of the hardware. Mixing boards are a great example of this. The best sounding units cost a lot more money. I have heard that the Pioneer Toraiz has very high quality outputs - not cheap ones like the toy samplers that are out there right now.
