  • You're a strong independent starfarer who don't need no Doom.
    Also the dusa is underrated.
    EAGLE loadout:
    smods - heavy armor, hardened shields, hardened subsystems
    mods - solar shielding, safety overrides
    reckless officer: shield modulation, helmsmanship, targeting analysis, reliability engineering, systems expertise
    2x heavy machine guns, 2x burst pd, 2x heavy blasters
    20 cap 28 vents
    or
    3x heavy machine guns, 2x heavy blasters (viewer recommendation)
    MEDUSA loadout:
    smods - heavy armor, hardened shields, hardened subsystems
    mods - solar shielding, safety overrides, shield conversion: front
    reckless officer: shield modulation, helmsmanship, impact mitigation, reliability engineering, systems expertise
    7 cap 5 vents
    2x rail guns, 1 heavy blaster, 1 ion cannon, 1 burst pd in the back
    CONQUEST loadout:
    smods - expanded missile racks, hardened shields, heavy armor
    mods - integrated targeting unit, ECCM, solar shielding, resistant flux conduits, stabilized shields
    standard officer: shield modulation, helmsmanship, gunnery implants, ranged specialization, missile specialization (Elite)
    2x hurricane MIRVs, 2x Mark IX autocannons, 4x heavy autocannon, 2x devastators, 2 burst PD in the rear
    FLEET BREAKDOWN:
    - Every ship in this lineup has some sort of movement based ship system to stay mobile and flexible
    - SO Eagles are the front line and do the heavy lifting and tanking.
    - SO Dusas cap points, take out frigates/destroyers, and can harass/tank Radiants with their superb shields and near limitless phase jumps thanks to Systems Expertise on officer.
    - Conquests provide long range missile spam as they generally will not find clear shots from long range in an SO fleet. Expanded missile racks and [ Elite ] Missile Specialization triples missile capacity and doubles fire rate so they will be sending in tons of MIRVs and have the missile capacity to do it. If they have expended every missile salvo by the end of battle they will have done their job.
    - This fleet comp will struggle in larger battles where there are too many reinforcements from [REDACTED] pouring in. Fast time to kill is key for this fleet strat to work.

    Good shit. I usually only have criticism for Starsector videos on youtube but I like your decision making in general. (although I disagree about Medusa's, but only cause Omens and Tempests are better)
    I'd recommend dropping the 2x Burst PD for another HMG. That'll drastically reduce your time-to-kill, thereby reducing the hardflux you'll accumulate. That's much more dependable than an insufficient amount of Burst PD. It's fine to take missiles on the shields for a ship like an SO Eagle. The only danger is salamanders, but it's better to rely on wiggling around so your shields catch them rather than Burst PD.
    Tip: Change your weapon group keybinds so that two or three of them will 'toggle autofire' instead of 'switch to'. Use that instead of left click to aim and fire, because AI has much better aim than you ever will and that'll free up a substantial portion of your brain for other necessary stuff. It's pretty much a necessity when using Omni shields anyway so it's good to get into the habit even with Front shield ships.

      Overrides are OP as long as you have the time. It's a trade that will usually win the fight in the brawler ships if you know how to pilot well

    try using assault chain gun instead dual heavy blaster or put triple antimatter blaster on your small slots it deal nearly same dmg but cost less flux

    • @understated1908
      @understated1908  3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      flux isn't an issue with the build, the AI can fire all day and stay flux neutral, which it does in the video. I used to use the assault chain gun + 1 heavy blaster but found that speed in cutting down chaff is really key and the assault chain guns damage is simply too low to crack armor in redacted fleets. It gets the job done and is much easier on the flux, but it's too slow. This is especially evident in 3 Radiant battles where there's way more chaff to get through. I'm not a fan of the idea of giving multiple AM blasters to AI, wouldn't trust it to not overload itself in a bad situation. The heavy blasters give solid, consistent damage and the eagle has enough tank to spank with them while still being manageable on flux.

    • @FiltyIncognito
      @FiltyIncognito 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ACG is meant for spanking small ships. Armor of medium ships and even just the hull of large ships reduce its damage by so much that it's really only worth equipping on a frigate hunter.

    Ive yet to see a non-OP non-cheese fleet build take out remnants consistently. All content on this matter is either old wing spam or heavy on the Smods side.
    Non are a problem for me but Im looking for a more interesting counter to them if you have found anything else.

    • @understated1908
      @understated1908  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What you consider OP/cheese is your opinion. These fights are not cake walks, this was a strategy I had to come up with along with designing a fleet doctrine to take on remnants and I still incur losses. To me OP/cheese is using Doom, which trivializes the game, or taking advantage of Derelict Contingent, which makes no sense to me. But if your complaint is using smods then I'm not sure what isn't cheese to you.

      @@understated1908 I am in no way criticising your strategy, it is well though out, developed and executed. What Im saying is that pound by pound your fleet is customized to be straight up better than the redacted, which is a feat on its own. Given that your fleet is better than OP ships in the game, as it it consensus in the community that remnants are OP, you fleet is therefore OP.
      As far as what Im looking for, which is entirely my preference, is a fleet that is strictly "worse" than the remnants and defeats them without spamming and incurring in no meaningful losses (such as trading no-smod monitors for radiants) in a battle.

      @@Other-AllOfTheAbove hmm not sure what you mean by worse then. Low tech? Redacted fleets will put most vanilla fleets to the test, even high tech if not optimized.

    • @understated1908

      in the ball park of 600k, but with SP bonus - 1.2M. At level 15, it takes 1M exp for 1 SP. Harder fights can net 2M+

      @@understated1908 If I understand correctly, difficulty multiplier relies on DP cost of fleet, so going all frigates will be more rewarding. I'm just waiting for DME to be released for 0.95 so that i can have fleet full off cabal/BB tempests, 10 normal officers, 4 Alpha AI piloting Imps, 1 me who pilots brave blade and 13 mercs to force Ordo's to play from behind on deployment points.

    The reckless officers are essential so that the AI sticks to the closer weapon range, right? I've tried equipping some Eagles with the same loadout and they can never get in range enough to even fire once.

    • @understated1908
      @understated1908  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, even with all of the weapons on the eagle being 450 range only reckless officer (maybe aggressive) will get in there and use them due to personality mechanics. Generally if you want to fight up close, use reckless, and for long ranged use standard officers.
