Excellent review! The Exterminator is my favorite Russ variant currently. The AP buff is worth an absurd amount on the battlefield in the right circumstances. This debuff doesn't stack with itself. But it will stack with Fields of Fire (consider Ursula Creed) and the Hellhound's Flush Them Out. Thats effectively AP -3 on lasguns. If you just want a cheap tank to sit back and add an effective pip of AP, I would recommend the Hellhound over the Exterminator. (Bring the hull heavy bolter, the Hellhound's ability triggers on all its weapons) The key to using these buffs is knowing when you'll hit the enemy's invulnerable save so you aren't wasting them. But if the enemy is 2+/4++, charged into me and I absolutely need to kill them this turn: - Have infantry squad (any type) stand still (for Lethal Hits) and order them FRFSRF - Put Fields of Fire into the enemy squad - Fire the Exterminator into them at -2 AP - Have the infantry shoot into them for total -2 AP on lasguns and forcing the enemy onto their invulnerable for every shot This combo is pretty simple, makes use of the detachment rule, and absolutely clears out even large groups of terminators. Don't waste that Exterminator firepower, it can do so much damage once you get it in range! (I have multi-melta sponsons on mine just for the damage)
had my friends exterminator one in one activation one shot my full hp repulsor executioner. when i'm using my guard this thing has helped me one turn kill the old T14 monolith in one turn. it helps a ton at punching up, down, or even equally.
I agree that the HK missiles look pretty bad on the Russ... and most other vehicles for that matter. I just magnetize them though, so that way when they're fired I can yank them off, which also prevents me from forgetting whether or not I've fired them.
I feel like the exterminator itself is anti synergistic in that it encourages you to fire a 170 point gun at something with a really good armour save. Sure you probably fields of fire first but with cover that's still a 3+
Not sure if it application is always higher armor save targets. Some times giving your hordes of lasguns an additional -1 AP against certain targets with lower armor can be very advantageous.
I have a theory tbh - this is pure Theoryhammer so it may not work as it does in my head - but here's my thought: 3 Exterminators - I know it doesn't stack! Follow me though: 1 strength less than a Battlecannon, same AP - but you reroll the wounds regardless of where the target is due to twin-linked and you know exactly how many shots you're getting. 24" is a pretty decent range for 'rapid fire' too. And a normal Battle Cannon is 1d6+3 right? So at long range you're rolling minimum s hots basically, but at Rapid Fire range you're getting 1 off the maximum, guaranteed. So the first one fires and is not necessarily spectacular... but that's just setting up the debuff. Now you're firing 2 other Exterminators - 8 S9 AP-2 D3 shots, + lets say a Lascannon and 2 Heavy Bolters (So another 6 S5 AP-2 D2 shots) and your Heavy Stubber. AP-2 doesn't sound exciting cause in past editions it really wasn't that special... but that's power weapon level of AP in this edition - you're putting Space Marines on a T-Shirt save, and putting Terminators on their Invuln. Damage 3 is pretty great too. So you've effectively got 3 more-predictable Battle Cannons at short range and also they can dish out a nice AP debuff. YMMV of course, but just from thinking it through I honestly kinda think the Exterminator might top the regular Leman Russ Battletank this edition, at least if you're of the "DRIVE ME CLOSER I WANT TO HIT THEM WITH MY SWORD" school of Guard. But yeah the short version is: Put all 3 Exterminators together and concentrate fire at short range to make things Go Away. Again though, I emphasize this is purely theoryhammer, I have not tried it. It just feels like it should work. I also may be biased because I've always had a deep love of autocannons. I just think they're neat.
its perfect for fighting terminators or custodes, that ap -2 is the best you can do against them and you also do 3 wounds of damage should the invul save fail. I always bring 3 like you suggested, they are mean :D

Bringing this to my first 40k tournament today!

I useed this tank as a Tank Commander a few weeks ago. Ended up killing angron with those lethal hits! Hugely underated!
These videos always brighten my day. Literally the best way to learn about guard units and see cool models

Thanks for all your videos review
Thanks for watching!

I like to put plasmas on my mine as it still gives me good range and a high number of shots that hit harder than heavy bolters.

@@desitri2956 That is great to know!
Thanks Sarge!
No problem!
This tank is the coolest looking imo, but it's not that strong so I haven't used it but perhaps now I will :)
How did your stubber move 😮
It's magnetized and not glued in place.
I love these tacticas
Thank you!
I honestly don’t think I have ever played against one of these and I have never owned one…
Can you stack withering hail and fields of fire?
Yes
Yes, since they are two different abilities.
I'm waiting for a negative review, just something on the list that you feel doesn't work well.
You mean... servitors? 🤣 Or the Colossus? Yeah, I have a few I would not talk about well
@@CadianSergeantSteel Yah, it would be interesting to see what you would feel would be thematic to improve or the like.
