This version with Dave Pirner , by far is the best version of this song in my opinion , and the reason being the harmony of the two comes together so perfectly its hard to tell where Sharon leaves off and Dave kicks in. Its a amazing team of vocalists they blend so well and the chemistry in this video is strong, and the point well made to the message delivered. You rarely see two strong vocalists like this come together in such a beautiful harmonic tones, but these two compliment each other well.. kudos to both of you on this.
I am only 12 years old. I have loved Within Temptation for as long as I can remember, their songs Frozen, Memories, and Bittersweet hit so close to home it is difficult to imagine. This band has gotten me through so many hard times that I can hardly count. I have been depressed for a while, this band connects me with my mom over a long distance and helps me accept the fact she isn't here. For years I've wanted to talk to this band.. I've never had money to see a concert, my dad and stepmom hate this band, but I am literally on of their biggest fans. Its a shame people cant get enjoyment from this song. I find it inspirational and uplifting. I couldnt compare it to any previous songs it just so amazing it stands alone .

This song speaks to me on so many levels. I saw the band live, and it was one of the best days of my life. I cried through pretty much the entire set, but most of all this song (which they did acoustically). It was so beautiful, uplifting and motivational, and I owe so much to this band. I met Sharon after the gig, hugged her and told her she was the reason I sang, the reason I was still here. It was such a phenomenal night, and it's one that I'll never forget. They tell you not to met your idols to avoid disappointment, but I can tell you now, I felt absolutely nothing but pride and positivity when I met mine. A beautiful woman, both inside out, with a fabulous band behind her. I cannot thank this band enough for what they have done for me.
Just listened to this and the one featuring Piotr Rogucki at the same time. It was pretty epic. Dave and Piotr actually complement each other quite well as they have difference vocal ranges.

I have been a true fan of the band since Mother Earth/Ice Queen days and it truly makes me wonder how it's possible for me to fall in love again and again, with theses guys/gal, album after album without this love/feeling ever waning. Anyway enough about me....the one word that screams at me when I hear/see this is "BEAUTIFUL" it fits all elements of this gift to us. Thank you and I know for sure I'll be watching.
I like to hear Utopia and this song back to back. It's like they deliver the same message, and they're both the softer, more uplifting song at the end of the album, like on purpose we're to finish our music listening sessions with these messages.

Whenever I look up older WT songs on here, always reminds me just how long I've been listing to this band. Still rank The Heart of Everything as one of my favorite albums of all time.
I like this song, it has a laid back tune, yet inspirational lyrics. From what I've heard so far, Hydra is shaping up to have nice level of diversity to it. Nice work Within Temptation, I can't wait for Hydra!

Thank you. I'm 23 and been through a lot. I've always struggled for a grain of hope and could never rest because my safe space has washed away so many times I could never trust to settle ever again; I always had to be ready for when everything would be bound to crumble all over again and thus never get to enjoy life to the fullest because I never wanted to get too comfortable before it all faded away and I would soon to be left with nothing but the hope that someday it'll change. I'll be 24 in November and, for the first time, I made the decision to start anew myself. I'm moving to Bucharest indefinitely (the place I least expected to ever go to) and I needed to hear this. Scared, scarred, torn apart and glued back together by that very hope, I feel I need this and my soul's yearning to find the place I belong to and finally be... home. I have to do this and I will. I hope that, one day, I'll get to see you there and remember this message. I hope I'll watch you and sigh in relief of how everything was worth it and turned around. I wish I get to remember today, a few days from starting anew, moving places, changing phone numbers, deleting media, bearing little hope and feeling alone out there and sigh in exhilaration as if it were but a bad dream as I'm living to the fullest, knowing that you, on this day, filled my cup with just the last drop of missing hope to do it all and change it round and around!! To all those thinking of leaving WT behind, this IS WT! This IS Sharon using her beautiful voice the best way she knows how! Yes, Within Temptation has that semi-gothic, metal, hardcore side to it, but it also has something that continues to stand out in whatever they choose to perform: SYMPHONICS! THAT'S what got me into the genre in the first place....and no matter what, WT's GOT IT, and they'll ALWAYS HAVE IT!
If they dont like where WT is going I wont ask them to change. As long as they just leave I have no problem with that, however if they start to hate on the band because they personally dont like them I can dislike that. For you guys who does that. If you are going to post something like this " WT SUCKS AND IS JUST POP" well dont. If you dont like it just stop listening and go to whatever you do otherwise, WT wont change just because you write some bad words on TH-cam and unless you get some good points in why you dont like them(as in the points actually make sense) just dont write anything at all.
@paecmaker 9 years later I sadly have to admit that I have to agree with those who don't like the new WT route. We awaited Shed my Skin for years and it isn't even comparable to albums like Hydra, let go The Silent Force which is a giant (and, for me, unarrivable) masterpiece. And please don't take me wrong: I didn't dislike Hydra, and Whole World is Watching is tears material years and years after the release... but yeah Shed my Skin is nothing comparable.
I absolutely love this track. Dave's voice just fits perfectly with Sharon here and the end result is beautiful. I know recent output from the band has divided opinion but to me this is one of their finest moments and Sharon can make any song listenable with that soaring voice. Stunning!!
Love this song. I have suffered from depression and a serious lack of self esteem almost my whole life but in recent years I have decided to fight it so I can be better father and husband. I use to take drugs, smoke and drink stupidly. Now I compete in triathlons. This song is all about feeling like you have been defeated but some how finding a way to believe in yourself so you can somehow win through. Cause your born to live, and fight it all the way.

WT are still a great band for me and have developed in a different direction over the past couple of albums. It's still Sharon's incredible voice that gives the song strength and most of the songs imo. I like that each album is different, I don't think they are a 'pop band'.

Whenever I look up older WT songs on here, always reminds me just how long I've been listing to this band. Still rank The Heart of Everything as one of my favorite albums of all time.
I like this song, it has a laid back tune, yet inspirational lyrics. From what I've heard so far, Hydra is shaping up to have nice level of diversity to it. Nice work Within Temptation, I can't wait for Hydra!

I've always struggled for a grain of hope and could never rest because my safe space has washed away so many times I could never trust to settle ever again; I always had to be ready for when everything would be bound to crumble all over again and thus never get to enjoy life to the fullest because I never wanted to get too comfortable before it all faded away and I would soon to be left with nothing but the hope that someday it'll change. I'll be 24 in November and, for the first time, I made the decision to start anew myself. I'm moving to Bucharest indefinitely (the place I least expected to ever go to) and I needed to hear this. Scared, scarred, torn apart and glued back together by that very hope, I feel I need this and my soul's yearning to find the place I belong to and finally be... home. I have to do this and I will. I hope that, one day, I'll get to see you there and remember this message. I hope I'll watch you and sigh in relief of how everything was worth it and turned around. I wish I get to remember today, a few days from starting anew, moving places, changing phone numbers, deleting media, bearing little hope and feeling alone out there and sigh in exhilaration as if it were but a bad dream as I'm living to the fullest, knowing that you, on this day, filled my cup with just the last drop of missing hope to do it all and change it round and around!! Much love from a fellow romanian soul, gone through sticks and stones but still standing tall and ready to be seen rising above it all by the whole world!!

To all those thinking of leaving WT behind, this IS WT! This IS Sharon using her beautiful voice the best way she knows how! Yes, Within Temptation has that semi-gothic, metal, hardcore side to it, but it also has something that continues to stand out in whatever they choose to perform: SYMPHONICS! THAT'S what got me into the genre in the first place....and no matter what, WT's GOT IT, and they'll ALWAYS HAVE IT!
If they dont like where WT is going I wont ask them to change. As long as they just leave I have no problem with that, however if they start to hate on the band because they personally dont like them I can dislike that.

If you are going to post something like this " WT SUCKS AND IS JUST POP" well dont. If you dont like it just stop listening and go to whatever you do otherwise, WT wont change just because you write some bad words on TH-cam and unless you get some good points in why you dont like them(as in the points actually make sense) just dont write anything at all.
@paecmaker 9 years later I sadly have to admit that I have to agree with those who don't like the new WT route. We awaited Shed my Skin for years and it isn't even comparable to albums like Hydra, let go The Silent Force which is a giant (and, for me, unarrivable) masterpiece. And please don't take me wrong: I didn't dislike Hydra, and Whole World is Watching is tears material years and years after the release... but yeah Shed my Skin is nothing comparable.
I absolutely love this track. Dave's voice just fits perfectly with Sharon here and the end result is beautiful. I know recent output from the band has divided opinion but to me this is one of their finest moments and Sharon can make any song listenable with that soaring voice. Stunning!!

Love this song. I have suffered from depression and a serious lack of self esteem almost my whole life but in recent years I have decided to fight it so I can be better father and husband. I use to take drugs, smoke and drink stupidly. Now I compete in triathlons. This song is all about feeling like you have been defeated but some how finding a way to believe in yourself so you can somehow win through. Cause your born to live, and fight it all the way.

WT are still a great band for me and have developed in a different direction over the past couple of albums. It's still Sharon's incredible voice that gives the song strength and most of the songs imo. I like that each album is different, I don't think they are a 'pop band'.

He has such a captivating voice: it made the song exactly how it needed to be. It's about overcoming setbacks in life: after all, those are what create you. Within Temptation is a Dutch symphonic metal/rock band founded in 1996 by vocalist Sharon Den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt. Their music is described as symphonic metal, although their earlier material, such as Enter, was gothic metal. In an interview, den Adel said they fell into asymphonic rock genre with various influences. In a later interview with 3VOOR12, den Adel stated that "we consider ourselves more a symphonic rock band ... we are in my opinion no gothic band". Their sixth studio album, Hydra, will be released on January 21, 2014. This is song gonna be like one of those memorable singles that are still in our favorite playlists up to this day e.g. Frozen, Forgiven, All I need and so on. I'm so happy they've come back with such great music. They're such a great band, and they keep on getting better. And let's not forget the greatness that is Dave Pirner, he is a freaking legend. This song means so much to me and smashes home . I had an accident 15 years ago that ment I had to give up the job I loved and live for 15 years in pain in a job I hated . I now have the pain under enough control thanks to the hospital and hard work that i am going back to the job I love on 2nd of January
