I'm a geology student from Turkey. Is it hard to find a job as a woman geolog? Many People try to convince me to change my department but I really loved studying geology, eventhough im a freshmen.
Hi Zeynep, I'm a geologist from the UK and haven't found that it is any harder to find work as a woman. Some professions may have more of one gender than the other but I haven't seen any gender-based discrimination here in terms of getting a job. If you love it, stick with it :) x
Hi Shy Lama . I am geology student . And its better for every geology student to know about this types of activities. And also this is a great step of you to share your knowledge to another geology student. Great work keep it up
Recent Geologist graduate here, and starting work soon! I'm excited to see where you take the series. I still get sweaty flashbacks when talking about Strike and Dip lol. I am very thankful about the magnet pen. I did not know those existed! Keep up the good work.
Hi Shy, I am looking to apply to Field Camp to another country at the moment. However, I wanted to be prepared for the trip. The climate is dry and hot up to 110 degrees in the summer. Besides those Field Work Tools. Can you do an episode relating to what we should bring for all the environments?
(I was searching about Geology videos and I found yours) 1:20 - Poor bear 2:01 - I will never use a hammer without glasses again xD I will buy one 2:31 - I bought a chinese compass Clar type, hope it works. 3:36 - Your grain size card is beautiful! 5:26 - It's really clever to have a magnetic pen. You can write and test the rocks (but I think it's good to keep distance from the compass) 6:54 - Nice! I will join the giveaway, I hope it's worldwide hahaha ( I live in Sao Paulo, Brazil) 7:55 - It's really useful! 8:30 - Your mother is heartless with paleontology Haha XD Your rock collection is nice! I have one too, but the only thing "beautiful" that I brought from the field were manganese dendrites In the field I like to use HCl for identify carbonatic rocks, I don't know if it is "essencial" but I like to share! xD I'll follow this series!
I lost my notebook when we were trying to get away from hail in the middle of a mountain, it got buried under who knows how much hail and didnt realize until we got to the motel. I asked my classmates if they happened to find it in this particular area to please pick it up cause it was mine. Someone found it. All my notes and drawings and whatnot were intact. God bless those weatherproof notebooks.
Good video covering the basic equipment. Gotta upgrade that lil' estwing to a geotul or a blacksmith hammer... helps a lot when bashing lots of outcrop.
I'm a writer and i like to be accurate in my work and i have a great love of earth and how she works. Geology is a great tool in understanding the workings of our plants. I have one question right now and it's important in what I'm writing about. " What would happen to the planet if all the magma was removed, i won't go into how that's not relevant to the question, i just need to know what effect it would have on the planet. Please and thank you if you could answer this question with as much realism as possible.
Great Video!! I really enjoyed it. What brand of hand lenses is that? Where can I get one with the same pouch? Also can you recommend any good geology shops in alberta to get equipment from?
Would a small pickaxe work well as a rock hammer ? Or is a pickaxe and a rock hammer both the same thing or are they different tools ? I'm getting into rock collecting,so I was just wondering.
It's so great to have such nice explanation. You love what you do! I'm from India and pursuing last year Diploma in mining Engg. It's not as advance but, I would like to to have such knowledge about earth crust where each and every Grain tells there own story and important to every geologist like you. Can I get a chance to work abroad after getting work experience in mining sector?
Nice posting. I'm still a geological student. i want to ask you about geology. Could you tell a geology field condition in your country maybe like a litology, structural, stratigraphy, or fossil, so i can compare with my country? and second question. Why did you choose geology than any subject? sorry my english is bad.
Hi Rizky, Thank you so much for your questions. When I started University I was doing a Biology Major, in my first year I took a Geology class as an option and really liked it. In my second year I decided that I want to be a geologist and switched my major :) I will be making videos about geology in my region, so stay tuned!
@@ShyLama thank you for the answer, that's interesting. yeah i will be waiting :D :) I'm still a geological student in Indonesia. I want to learn from you about geology. Do you know a company or organisation like geology basic? I want training outside my country to getting new experience and relation.
I'm just starting my studies In Geology, just curious, what type of hammer do your recommend, I've seen hammer/chisels , hammer/pointed tips? Great video

Oh god, not the brunton compass. I hated that part of field work. Was never good at finding strike and dip. Good thing I don't need that in petroleum! Just how to identify shale, limestone, sandstone, and of course chert so they don't f their bit up!
Mam plz guide me abt geology course .and guide me which book should i read to know exactly i like geology ..actually i was confused whether i really want to do or not
How to get a job as geologist in canada? Can you give me specific websites where i can find geologist job, iam not Canadian but i really want to work in canada, i have 8 year experience in my country but i am ready to start from junior level. Thanks 👍
Hmmm, this is a serious question.... As a petroleum geologist I would say coarse, well sorted sandstone :) As a girl that likes pretty things I would say ruby ;)

the only thing i find kinda inaccurate in this video is the magnetic pen..what if we use a regular magnet attached to a cotton thread?
