Kabru being able to fight people but not Monsters making him the polar opposite to Laios is really funny and makes him an interesting foil. He and his party cannot survive the same way the OG party can which keeps us 1 step ahead of him.

I never really understood Kabru's distaste for the Toudens until watching it adapted here... he's not saying they're unfit to rule the dungeon simply because they gave money to shady people; he takes umbrage in the fact that they never interrogated the motives of the people they gave the money to, noticed they were exploiting them, and stopped. He sees someone who would be naive enough to overlook bad actors like that as unfit to rule... Time will tell how his opinion holds up after actually meeting Laios (I know I'm just being cryptic)
Chil being the middle-aged union tradie despite looking the youngest is actually so funny to me Edit: Actually, he's not just a tradie, he's the half-foot union rep to the entire dungeon - that's even funnier

The first time I saw Kabru starting to psychoanalyze Laios' party, I was like: "Bro you got into a wrong job! You should be a politician or something, not a dungeon crawler" Kabru is way out of his depth here.

Kabru would wipeout the entire population of Orcs inside the dungeon while Laios would look for negotiations and a middle ground. Kabru is the last person who should be trusted with any form of power. He's extremely self-righteous, manipulative and will judge anyone based on whether they fit his ideas or not.
I smiled all the way through the episode, because as a long-time D&D master, I can assure you the dialogue in the Kabru's team mimics what can happen with a player's group if you focus not so much on the dungeon crawling, but on the world building. You, as the master, have the full story under your eyes - you know the beats, the characters, their motivations. Meanwhile the players are left guessing with the information they have, and they can misinterpret or misremember things - thus giving birth to entirely new narrative possibilities. One of my most hilarious memories are of a team of players that were introduced to a party of NPCs that were supposed to become their allies. Except, one of the players was unusually aggressive towards them, kept assuming the worst of their every move and words, and kept making cutting remarks and veiled threats to the other team's leader. Long story short, I decided to let the story unravel naturally, and what was supposed to be an alliance became a fierce rivalry - the two groups almost wiped each other out, before coming to an unsteady truce. I think one of the best masters' abilities is to draw inspiration from the players, and to railroad them as little as possible.

I find it funny that Kabru thinks Laios is sus when he’s over there literally analyzing the best way to take you down. He’s like if Laios was interested in people instead of monsters… Kabru is like the dark mirror to Laios. They’re so similar (they’re both hunters) that Laios creeps Kabru out (because he recognizes the hunter in Laios), but Laios is blind to human desires and is therefore blind to the threat that Kabru poses. On the other hand, Kabru is very attuned to the danger from humans, he is woefully unprepared to face monsters… their mannerisms and attack patterns are too alien to him.
It's the moment that had me realizing he should never be king. I hadn't paid much attention to the legend of the dungeon, but Kabru's obsession with it combined with his shadiness, really heightened the tension of that plot point.
I love how Kabru and Shuro have this distaste for Laios (GET IT?!) stemming from him being socially awkward (possibly on the autism spectrum) but he's not only the best qualified to handle the dungeon, but also has the moral qualities neither of the people he *just wants to be friends with* either can't or won't see. They're trying to either play 4D chest or have this rivalry with a guy who just wants to show you this cool bug he found and he's sorry that it creeps you out but he's trying his best!

I love Kabru's entire character arc and backstory so much, and how good he is as a foil to Laios. But I'm dying because it's such a case of Supplemental Material Bonus and we're probably not gonna get much more than the basic Utaya explanation in the anime. Which also means we're never going to get Laios being like "hmm, you DO kinda look like a wasp (genuine compliment)" in the anime, which is a damn shame.

I think it also could be because we're looking at this from the perspective of Kabru's party, and the way that they and other "normal" parties view food is very different from how Laios' party does. To normal adventurers, food is just another expense, and they don't really put as much thought into what they eat as Laios or Senshi does. I think it's like a less drastic version of how Namari sees the undine stew before and after she tastes it.

The way the Anime sets up Kabru as this sort of imposing threat unsure if he’s going to be just a foil or an antagonist to Laios’s party is a real tensioner for me

Just got caught up with the Manga. But when watching the Anime Kabru feels like the PvP specialist who keeps on getting wiped in the PvE dungeon, while Senshi and Laios living their best life in the Dungeon.
This episode had good use of economical animation and shots. Definitely enough to make you go “they’re saving time and energy here”, but not enough to the point of being outright detrimental and distracting.
I like this guy he's a bit messed up, and he contrasts so well against Laios Kabru has all the rizz that ladies blush when he talks to them, while Laios manages to make sirens get away from him
The scene of Kabru destroying those corpse finders has so much more impact when you can see how quickly and smoothly he does it. Shows what Kabru is like so well
Ngl, when I was reading the manga, Kabru came off like a cult leader to me along with his party being his followers bc of how they kinda praise and follow him. Which felt off-putting compared to the main party where everyone isn't really following anyone specific heavily, it's more of a team effort. I like how they show both of the parties and how there are a lot of differences.
Doni and Fionil in the ed makes me so happy, best couple. also you forgot to point out that in the anime, Holm ate meat even though in the manga he doesn't, because of religious reasons. It kinda threw me off when I first saw it.
while this is more likely an error in translating the canon I choose to believe what it means is that Holm without a missing a beat lied about being a vegetarian to get out of eating that specific meal because the idea of that is really, REALLY funny to me
I'm wondering if the desaturated meat is intentional. The meals Senshi make are from monster flesh so they could come off exotic and therefore more vibrant where as regular meat from Cow or Pigs wouldn't be as interesting. Makes me think of Namari's perspective of the Undine soup where it was dull and unappetizing but the moment she tries it, the colors pop.
Senshi's food is also mostly direct from the source and newly cooked so it looks more vibrant and colorful, while the corpse retriever's food will most likely be preserved, dried, and/or no longer fresh
Possibly, but I think it’s careful attention to detail. Provisions ‘hunted’ in the dungeons would be fresh and vibrant. But supplies from the surface would have to be preserved to last the days to weeks that the adventures would be underground. So it probably is salted or otherwise preserved in some way
I used to absolutely despise Kabru, but after reading the manga ive realized that not once has he ever did anything to harm Laios' group, in fact literally everything hes done up to this point was to help/protect Laios and his group from various enemies (not saying for spoiler sake).
@@bekaseka7522 I copied the official character sheets from the author's book. "Monster knowledge" falls under INT. They obviously have different kinds of knowledge. Laios, for example, probably knows much less about other races, other countries, systems of governance etc
I really hate Kabru in the fact he still believes Laois ''just'' robbed them. he was able to perfectly profile the main parties situation and reasoning as to why they arecurrently venturing into the dungeon and even deducted why they are with a new dwarf. that being said, even when they now know the corpse collector was a thief and liar, they dont think for a second about the first story they were told. No, they still believe everything prior of what was told, but besides that they perfectly deducted so many facts about our MC and they parties current situation, like ... come on... 2nd guess that first story that was given to you by the guy that just tried to murk you for money !!!!
mild spoilers: I’m pretty sure Kabru already knows they prolly didn’t steal from them/doesn’t care by this point but he’s keeping it to himself because he’s interested in Laios and wants an excuse to follow him.
To be fair, even if they did take a second to reconsider the corpse retrievers story, they still know that Laios's party did cross their group. (Although they're running on speculation on the who.) They still have Marcille's hair and the kobold knows their scents. They also lost supplies both times they were revived and the corpse retrievers only got to them once. It's easy to see why they would not second guess their decision, especially when some of the members are more hotheaded than the others.
I mean they quite literally did steal from them. There was actual treasure along with the bugs that Marcille/Chilchuck tossed which should have belonged to their party, plus they looted their grain from the second incident. The collectors framed them to make it worse, but did take stuff they shouldn't have. Well, the gems were a legitimate mistake.
Reading the Manga Translation and watching the Anime has thrown me for a loop at times with the genders and the way Japanese works at times. Mik and the Mad Mage specifically
It's been a while since I read this series but I'm not sure if Kabru murdering the bandits was really all that harsh. Medieval societies had far harsher punishments and I wouldn't really bat an eye if you told me a bandit party was killed by the party they were trying to loot. It should also be noted that Laios and Falin have an extra (somewhere, not sure where) where they detail how barbarians around their hometown were killed when spotted, about how they had to be killed because you couldn't communicate with them. They do it in a nonchalant tone, telling you that they just accept it as is. Not a spoiler because I didn't even find these extras until I had already finished the story, has nothing to do with the story, just fun extras. This set of extras is also where the Elf Supremacist meme comes from, if you know what I mean. TL;DR: Kabru is most definitely the foil to Laios, not sure about the murder part specifically. Even in their design you can see it. Laios has yellow eyes, Kabru blue. Laios is lightskinned and blonde haired, Kabru is darker skinned and darker haired. You can also see it in how they move, as you mentioned.
If Kabru joined in on their scheme, they'd blackmail him later. If he let them live and reported them, their buddies in the government would cover for them and Kabru's party would have to always watch their backs from now on, both in the dungeon and on the surface. Their families and friends could be threatened as well if Kabru's party is too skilled to be directly attacked. And if he let them live and didn't report them, the same would happen. Because the bandits are murderers! They *just* tried to do it and confessed that they'd done it before! What, he's supposed to let them go so they can try again, and then believe that if they succeed next time they'll be kind enough to bring their corpses to the resurrection office? He was put in a position where the only safe choice for him and the people he was protecting was to get rid of the threat. I think most people wouldn't understand this in the moment, but Kabru clocked it immediately.

Understandable confusion; I think one of the translations also screwed up on that. Don't remember if it was the fantranslation or official. Regardless, Kui has a bunch of sketches of every character with different clothing, as different races, etc., where it becomes obvious very quickly Mickbell is male.
I really think that by the time they fight, there will be some BS like Lyos has eaten so many monsters and studied them that he moves more like one, making it harder for Kabru to fight him. Just an assumption. That or Senshi'll step in. I feel like Lyos moves like the living armor, as well. Which seems on purpose.

I'm looking forward to seeing how they structure the next few episodes since we have some extremely long and important chapters coming up that would be hard to split into different episodes. It seems like trigger likes to give two parter chapters their own episode, so I'm not surprised the order of chapters was shuffled around. Edit: Well the kadokawa teaser showed three chapters for the next episode so now I'm really curious on how they'll tackle the three chapters after that.

Hmm, yes, Kabru. My favorite Normal Man(TM). so normal, nothing weird about 'im. A lot of people have speculated (partially based on the mangaka's other work), that Laios and a few other characters could be autistic. And sometimes different ND people's expressions and needs conflict. I can and would absolutely make the argument that Kabru's inability to understand that Laios and Falin don't operate on the same "desires limited to a variable degree by the laws of morality" principles that he uses to understand others _is itself_ a symptom of autism. His black and white morality too. It's just that his special interest is the complex web of desires, incentives, levers and relationships between people. And he's fucking good at masking. It makes sense that Kabru would become interested in desires and political structures after his backstory, in the same way that Laios being ostracized in his community for being Different could drive an initial interest in monsters.

At first I thought Kabru's cold blooded demeanor was cool, like, he's laid back almost to a fault, but when he's locked in he's _locked in_ But then you pointed out how he's only good at fighting other people, and that completely changes my impression.
Laois said at the beginning that monsters are really interesting and he wants to know all about them. Kabro exactly mirrors this with his rant about people and social nets.
To anyone thinking it weird that Mickbell pays Kuro [the dogman/kobold] in food... it gets worse. In Daydream Hour 4, a sort of mini series addon also by Kui- we find out that *Kuro is Mickbell's slave.* Yes, its horrible and no it is never brought up or addressed aside from the same mini-comic where Mickbell tells Kabru to not talk to Kuro in his native language, says HE is the owner, and finally warns Kuro against people that might steal him.
I love my freaks (Edit) The new opening and ending look really good. I had to pause at some parts to get all the little details in the ending. Spoilers: I can't wait for Mithrun's fight scenes to be animated. It's going to look so cool!
There's also a colouring error when Holm eats what looks to be bread but is coloured as meat..unfortunate as he's supposedly vegetarian Was a bit disappointed at the apparent saving of budget w/ this episode (especially with the sea serpent!) but I did like the small characterizations that made Kabru's party feel more lively

Story wise this chapter did a great job, Kabru went from silly to a menace, not only is he skilled in combat,he is smart and can figure a combat strategy in seconds, even his eyes for me went from gentle to "demonic".
On the topic of Kabru (it may have been addressed in comments or future videos already), I feel that Superdude's video on Dungeon Meshi makes a good point at casting both him, Laios and even Falin as on the spectrum. Laios specializes in monsters but can struggle with social situations. Kabru however, got the lottery win with understanding human social theatre and navigation, even if there are some moments he doesn't like... or folks he thinks should sleep... forever. But Kabru can't last against a monster that doesn't care about human customs. Superdude does better at explaining: Dungeon Meshi - Spelunking On the Spectrum. Give it a watch.

Very nice videos, love them all, but I do wanna say something Vis a Vis Kabru. 4:40 I understand what you're getting at, but it's worth noting that Kabru's actions are not unprovoked, seeing as the corpse retrievers did just try to trick his party into killing each other, express hope that Kabru's party would catch up to Laios's party and kill each other, and also try to buy their way out of trouble by offering up the retrieval fee on a soon-to-be corpse, trying to get Kabru's hands bloody too. The corpse retrievers were very untrustworthy at that point, and to be honest I would be more than willing to believe that they would have tried to get Kabru nailed for the killing of the unconscious retriever. Considering what we find out later on in the season, Kabru does also have a very fair reason to want everyone working in the dungeon to work towards its destruction rather than their own profit. Regardless, I do like your analysis of Kabru otherwise!

I hate i have to say this about a black character i just despise kabru dude is just noesy , gaslighting , lying bastard. I get he doesn't know laiso but this ep just made him look untrustworthy
i thought kabru was going to be my favorite character, but he ended up being a two faced hypocrite! some manga spoilers ahead- a person native to a land that fell to elven interest and corruption of land systems, a lone survivor with a traumatic experience now dictating his moral outlook likely for the better, and generally a good leader it seems because of it! i thought he would be a moralist who is against - but willing to learn- laios and the gangs apparent perversion over monster meals. the fact that he comes from a systematic tragedy should have made him a lot more aware of the systems on the island this dungeon is in. he should have understood that individual interests matter little in the context of the environment those individuals are in, and that it fuels those interests. he was willing to outright kill and leave to never be brought back to life the theives, when living conditions are obviously unfair for many given the othering of the orcs and the lavishness of the island leaders. i dont hate his character, i hate him as a pretty well written character to contrast laios. i just wish they leaned more into the fact that kabru was raised more lavishly so hes biased to the idea the poor are greedy rather than systematically made desperate to cause crime-causing his odd moral placement around the elves later and his suspicions of laios instead of it being personal, or leaned more into his naive moralist sense to worry laios is bad when its really just a contradiction of his seemingly absent trauma from the island. the way he operates is obviously built from being the only survivor, but it never seems to hinder him like it does with mithrun and his desires being taken. if there were just 3-5 more chapters to go into kabru being more visibly hindered by his past and either being a good person for it or a bad person from it would have been very interesting and fulfilling to his character, but he never really gets a conclusion in the way im looking for. he stays generally static but still goes into interesting places along mithrun later on. i guess theres some difference in how japanese may look at native peoples or these systematic topics due to their own history, so not seeing it fulfill in this way isnt something im surprised over, just considering how the orcs were written, i thought it would develop this way. either way, the story ends amazingly.
This anime have so much diversity in character designs and its refreshing to look at And the cooking materials aren't modern for once, unlike with other Fantasy Cooking anime

I smiled all the way through the episode, because as a long-time D&D master, I can assure you the dialogue in the Kabru's team mimics what can happen with a player's group if you focus not so much on the dungeon crawling, but on the world building. You, as the master, have the full story under your eyes - you know the beats, the characters, their motivations. Meanwhile the players are left guessing with the information they have, and they can misinterpret or misremember things - thus giving birth to entirely new narrative possibilities. One of my most hilarious memories are of a team of players that were introduced to a party of NPCs that were supposed to become their allies. Except, one of the players was unusually aggressive towards them, kept assuming the worst of their every move and words, and kept making cutting remarks and veiled threats to the other team's leader. Long story short, I decided to let the story unravel naturally, and what was supposed to be an alliance became a fierce rivalry - the two groups almost wiped each other out, before coming to an unsteady truce. I think one of the best masters' abilities is to draw inspiration from the players, and to railroad them as little as possible.
That’s such a perfect way of looking at it! I was wondering why I liked this episode so much and this is exactly it!

Kabru is like the dark mirror to Laios. They’re so similar (they’re both hunters) that Laios creeps Kabru out (because he recognizes the hunter in Laios), but Laios is blind to human desires and is therefore blind to the threat that Kabru poses. On the other hand, Kabru is very attuned to the danger from humans, he is woefully unprepared to face monsters… their mannerisms and attack patterns are too alien to him.

It's the moment that had me realizing he should never be king. I hadn't paid much attention to the legend of the dungeon, but Kabru's obsession with it combined with his shadiness, really heightened the tension of that plot point.

I love how Kabru and Shuro have this distaste for Laios (GET IT?!) stemming from him being socially awkward (possibly on the autism spectrum) but he's not only the best qualified to handle the dungeon, but also has the moral qualities neither of the people he *just wants to be friends with* either can't or won't see.
They're trying to either play 4D chest or have this rivalry with a guy who just wants to show you this cool bug he found and he's sorry that it creeps you out but he's trying his best!

I love Kabru's entire character arc and backstory so much, and how good he is as a foil to Laios. But I'm dying because it's such a case of Supplemental Material Bonus and we're probably not gonna get much more than the basic Utaya explanation in the anime. Which also means we're never going to get Laios being like "hmm, you DO kinda look like a wasp (genuine compliment)" in the anime, which is a damn shame.

B-Because the food is like that, saturated and really red meat could indicate freshness, this is just salted meat that lost that fresh factor
I think it also could be because we're looking at this from the perspective of Kabru's party, and the way that they and other "normal" parties view food is very different from how Laios' party does. To normal adventurers, food is just another expense, and they don't really put as much thought into what they eat as Laios or Senshi does. I think it's like a less drastic version of how Namari sees the undine stew before and after she tastes it.

Kabru feels like the PvP specialist who keeps on getting wiped in the PvE dungeon, while Senshi and Laios living their best life in the Dungeon.
This episode had good use of economical animation and shots. Definitely enough to make you go “they’re saving time and energy here”, but not enough to the point of being outright detrimental and distracting.
I like this guy he's a bit messed up, and he contrasts so well against Laios

Ngl, when I was reading the manga, Kabru came off like a cult leader to me along with his party being his followers bc of how they kinda praise and follow him. Which felt off-putting compared to the main party where everyone isn't really following anyone specific heavily, it's more of a team effort. I like how they show both of the parties and how there are a lot of differences.

also you forgot to point out that in the anime, Holm ate meat even though in the manga he doesn't, because of religious reasons. It kinda threw me off when I first saw it.
while this is more likely an error in translating the canon I choose to believe what it means is that Holm without a missing a beat lied about being a vegetarian to get out of eating that specific meal because the idea of that is really, REALLY funny to me
I enjoyed the way Kabru version of stoping a spellcaster's chant with no physical damage
I'm wondering if the desaturated meat is intentional. The meals Senshi make are from monster flesh so they could come off exotic and therefore more vibrant where as regular meat from Cow or Pigs wouldn't be as interesting. Makes me think of Namari's perspective of the Undine soup where it was dull and unappetizing but the moment she tries it, the colors pop.
Senshi's food is also mostly direct from the source and newly cooked so it looks more vibrant and colorful, while the corpse retriever's food will most likely be preserved, dried, and/or no longer fresh
Also, the meal shots are probably from Laios' excited perspective.

Possibly, but I think it’s careful attention to detail. Provisions ‘hunted’ in the dungeons would be fresh and vibrant. But supplies from the surface would have to be preserved to last the days to weeks that the adventures would be underground. So it probably is salted or otherwise preserved in some way

I used to absolutely despise Kabru, but after reading the manga ive realized that not once has he ever did anything to harm Laios' group, in fact literally everything hes done up to this point was to help/protect Laios and his group from various enemies (not saying for spoiler sake).

@@bekaseka7522 I copied the official character sheets from the author's book. "Monster knowledge" falls under INT. They obviously have different kinds of knowledge. Laios, for example, probably knows much less about other races, other countries, systems of governance etc

I really hate Kabru in the fact he still believes Laois ''just'' robbed them. he was able to perfectly profile the main parties situation and reasoning as to why they arecurrently venturing into the dungeon and even deducted why they are with a new dwarf.
that being said, even when they now know the corpse collector was a thief and liar, they dont think for a second about the first story they were told.
No, they still believe everything prior of what was told, but besides that they perfectly deducted so many facts about our MC and they parties current situation, like ... come on... 2nd guess that first story that was given to you by the guy that just tried to murk you for money !!!!

To be fair, even if they did take a second to reconsider the corpse retrievers story, they still know that Laios's party did cross their group. (Although they're running on speculation on the who.) They still have Marcille's hair and the kobold knows their scents. They also lost supplies both times they were revived and the corpse retrievers only got to them once. It's easy to see why they would not second guess their decision, especially when some of the members are more hotheaded than the others.
I mean they quite literally did steal from them. There was actual treasure along with the bugs that Marcille/Chilchuck tossed which should have belonged to their party, plus they looted their grain from the second incident.
The collectors framed them to make it worse, but did take stuff they shouldn't have. Well, the gems were a legitimate mistake.

Reading the Manga Translation and watching the Anime has thrown me for a loop at times with the genders and the way Japanese works at times. Mik and the Mad Mage specifically
It's been a while since I read this series but I'm not sure if Kabru murdering the bandits was really all that harsh. Medieval societies had far harsher punishments and I wouldn't really bat an eye if you told me a bandit party was killed by the party they were trying to loot. It should also be noted that Laios and Falin have an extra (somewhere, not sure where) where they detail how barbarians around their hometown were killed when spotted, about how they had to be killed because you couldn't communicate with them. They do it in a nonchalant tone, telling you that they just accept it as is. Not a spoiler because I didn't even find these extras until I had already finished the story, has nothing to do with the story, just fun extras. This set of extras is also where the Elf Supremacist meme comes from, if you know what I mean.
TL;DR: Kabru is most definitely the foil to Laios, not sure about the murder part specifically. Even in their design you can see it. Laios has yellow eyes, Kabru blue. Laios is lightskinned and blonde haired, Kabru is darker skinned and darker haired. You can also see it in how they move, as you mentioned.
If Kabru joined in on their scheme, they'd blackmail him later.
If he let them live and reported them, their buddies in the government would cover for them and Kabru's party would have to always watch their backs from now on, both in the dungeon and on the surface. Their families and friends could be threatened as well if Kabru's party is too skilled to be directly attacked.
And if he let them live and didn't report them, the same would happen. Because the bandits are murderers! They *just* tried to do it and confessed that they'd done it before! What, he's supposed to let them go so they can try again, and then believe that if they succeed next time they'll be kind enough to bring their corpses to the resurrection office?
He was put in a position where the only safe choice for him and the people he was protecting was to get rid of the threat. I think most people wouldn't understand this in the moment, but Kabru clocked it immediately.

Understandable confusion; I think one of the translations also screwed up on that. Don't remember if it was the fantranslation or official. Regardless, Kui has a bunch of sketches of every character with different clothing, as different races, etc., where it becomes obvious very quickly Mickbell is male.
I really think that by the time they fight, there will be some BS like Lyos has eaten so many monsters and studied them that he moves more like one, making it harder for Kabru to fight him. Just an assumption. That or Senshi'll step in. I feel like Lyos moves like the living armor, as well. Which seems on purpose.

It seems like trigger likes to give two parter chapters their own episode, so I'm not surprised the order of chapters was shuffled around.

If you look closely, there are a few cuts taken from dungeon cleaners, specifically the blood drake flying overhead and chilchuck being pushed into the wall.

Kabru is my favourite character. He is like 2nd protagonist and very opposite of Laios.

A lot of people have speculated (partially based on the mangaka's other work), that Laios and a few other characters could be autistic. And sometimes different ND people's expressions and needs conflict. I can and would absolutely make the argument that Kabru's inability to understand that Laios and Falin don't operate on the same "desires limited to a variable degree by the laws of morality" principles that he uses to understand others _is itself_ a symptom of autism. His black and white morality too. It's just that his special interest is the complex web of desires, incentives, levers and relationships between people. And he's fucking good at masking.
It makes sense that Kabru would become interested in desires and political structures after his backstory, in the same way that Laios being ostracized in his community for being Different could drive an initial interest in monsters.

Yes, its horrible and no it is never brought up or addressed aside from the same mini-comic where Mickbell tells Kabru to not talk to Kuro in his native language, says HE is the owner, and finally warns Kuro against people that might steal him.

Story wise this chapter did a great job, Kabru went from silly to a menace, not only is he skilled in combat,he is smart and can figure a combat strategy in seconds, even his eyes for me went from gentle to "demonic".
I like how Kabru is freaking out inside when he finds out Laios is serious about monster foods

On the topic of Kabru (it may have been addressed in comments or future videos already), I feel that Superdude's video on Dungeon Meshi makes a good point at casting both him, Laios and even Falin as on the spectrum. Laios specializes in monsters but can struggle with social situations. Kabru however, got the lottery win with understanding human social theatre and navigation, even if there are some moments he doesn't like... or folks he thinks should sleep... forever. But Kabru can't last against a monster that doesn't care about human customs.

I understand what you're getting at, but it's worth noting that Kabru's actions are not unprovoked, seeing as the corpse retrievers did just try to trick his party into killing each other, express hope that Kabru's party would catch up to Laios's party and kill each other, and also try to buy their way out of trouble by offering up the retrieval fee on a soon-to-be corpse, trying to get Kabru's hands bloody too. The corpse retrievers were very untrustworthy at that point, and to be honest I would be more than willing to believe that they would have tried to get Kabru nailed for the killing of the unconscious retriever. Considering what we find out later on in the season, Kabru does also have a very fair reason to want everyone working in the dungeon to work towards its destruction rather than their own profit.
Regardless, I do like your analysis of Kabru otherwise!

i thought kabru was going to be my favorite character, but he ended up being a two faced hypocrite! some manga spoilers ahead-
a person native to a land that fell to elven interest and corruption of land systems, a lone survivor with a traumatic experience now dictating his moral outlook likely for the better, and generally a good leader it seems because of it! i thought he would be a moralist who is against - but willing to learn- laios and the gangs apparent perversion over monster meals. the fact that he comes from a systematic tragedy should have made him a lot more aware of the systems on the island this dungeon is in. he should have understood that individual interests matter little in the context of the environment those individuals are in, and that it fuels those interests. he was willing to outright kill and leave to never be brought back to life the theives, when living conditions are obviously unfair for many given the othering of the orcs and the lavishness of the island leaders. i dont hate his character, i hate him as a pretty well written character to contrast laios. i just wish they leaned more into the fact that kabru was raised more lavishly so hes biased to the idea the poor are greedy rather than systematically made desperate to cause crime-causing his odd moral placement around the elves later and his suspicions of laios instead of it being personal, or leaned more into his naive moralist sense to worry laios is bad when its really just a contradiction of his seemingly absent trauma from the island. the way he operates is obviously built from being the only survivor, but it never seems to hinder him like it does with mithrun and his desires being taken. if there were just 3-5 more chapters to go into kabru being more visibly hindered by his past and either being a good person for it or a bad person from it would have been very interesting and fulfilling to his character, but he never really gets a conclusion in the way im looking for. he stays generally static but still goes into interesting places along mithrun later on. i guess theres some difference in how japanese may look at native peoples or these systematic topics due to their own history, so not seeing it fulfill in this way isnt something im surprised over, just considering how the orcs were written, i thought it would develop this way. either way, the story ends amazingly.
He has the tragic backstory, is the leader of a party and even has a Rin in his life.
Of course Kabru thinks he is the protagonist!
