Looking forward to this complete series on this tractor. Your misses is making it very interesting and helping you explain things you take for granted. Good stuff
Wendell, let the Missus know that the tractors on the property aren't dead, they're just resting, waiting to be called into service. Take care, stay safe and enjoy your week.
Well, she kinda is right and wrong at the same time Mike. Some of the ones she think are not running just have no batteries in them or need a simple carb cleaning or gas tank lining....minor stuff by comparison. But she IS right....they aren't running.. LOL But there ARE a lot of 'parts' tractors too because with old stuff ya gotta have spare parts to keep the good ones in use.
Good Evening Sir, You are a Genius for making these movable engine stands on wheels from Canadian Steel made : ) Nice welding Sir !!! HO HO HO Your Lovely Wife OSHA Inspector is back 💖🌹👌😇 The existing part was when you run of the concrete slab : ) I like to mention the way the two hydraulic cylinder for steering control are buried under the engine !!! 50 tractors,, all of them, rusty, red, working, not working ( is that a couple argument ) LOL OUTSTANDING VIDEO Sir Cheers
We have made various sets of stands over the years. This was the quickest and easiest to come up with and I thought it was cool to identify the CANADIAN steel angles !! LOL That identifying fact was for you and the rest of my Northern friends. I DO have a good number of tractors that need to head down the highway though. I think I'm gonna make a package deal of three small Allis Chalmers soon. I'll price them desirably low to get 'em gone !! Then she won't have so many dead ones to look at. LOL
Hahahahaha....I jumped off the deep end almost 50 years ago with the 'I do'....LOL Just never looked back !! With the winter's preperation needing attention, I gotta let this set for a bit. But as time allows we will give it the dickens Reg !!
Hi My friend. Getting there. Rust can do some strange things for sure. Looking forward to your next video in this series. Has always Liked and shared. All my very best to all.
Yes, just a few minutes maybe an hour and the back half is not only safe, it is reasonably mobile too. Its going to move outside for a while during the engine work, just to free up space in the shop.
Rust again... You made it look easy removing the front end. I like watching you do it, because I may have to do this kind of work one day if I am to overhaul the engine. Thanks!
I usually do this kind of work out under the overhead beams because its so much easier with the variety of chain falls there. BUTTTT.....there's another dead tractor under there. And its a big one that's really hard to move. It'd be easier to remove if I'd taken the gears off the front as well as the cast timing cover housing. But for obvious reasons with the bad conditions of the gears I wanted those intact for placement on the engine stand.
Hey, that's good to know they've been a bit of a help Keith ! I haven't seen it run yet, but if it ends up as good a tractor as my 580B is, then YES, it will be a good tractor around the place.
Hot doggies Gator, thank you for the vote of confidence my friend !! It's gonna stretch out a bit because its about time to get started preparing for winter.
Hahahaha...good one Marcus. I had an old VAC Case but traded it for a Massey Harris 33 and the only other one is the 580B backhoe. This is the first utility tractor I've had in the Case line too. I think its going to ultimately be a good one.
wow that's pretty smart buddy you are always coming up with a great plan you are the guy that they came up with the saying work smarter not harder lol thumbs up to you take care and have a great night
Hahahahaha.....the old man always said to give the hardest job to the laziest guy and he will find the easiest way to get it done !! That's ME. LOL Thanks for the visit my friend.
Hey Wendell! Wow, you’re in the deep end of the pool for sure now! Very strange how the top side of those gears were corroded but not the bottom. Hard to imagine how that much moisture could settle in there. Good luck with this one, my friend!
Yes Martin, that IS a bit of a puzzle. I've seen a LOT of damage but this is a first for me in this manner. I hope they are salvageable and not pitted too badly to use.
Wendell, watch out, with all the questions she is asking, she may start rebuilding the tractors herself!😂😅😂😅! Or when this one is done it will belong to her and you won’t be allowed to play on it! Great video as always!
@@thesmallwoodlot433 She has always been partial to Olivers, specifically the little 4 cylinder 60. But her holy grail is one of the small Silver Kings !! I've been looking.
We are hoping to add it to the stable as a reliable and smooth running tractor. I gotta get it running then we will address the worn parts of the loader then consider other options.
Well, ya gotta get to the bottom of the problem then go the other direction. For now she's unknowingly using it for a moderate money pit....but we still have to dig deeper. It'll be lined with fifties and hunnerds.... LOL.
On my Cub, I have two plastic wedges that I used to keep the front from leaning too far over either way. The bolster, here could use some wedges, to keep it from pivoting like it did when you pull it away from the engine. I also bought a heavy duty jack stand with a caster from TSC and bolted that to a plate which then bolts to the tractor's transmission tube to support the tractor. Of course, the Cub is a baby compared to that Case.
That's a good solution for supporting for sure. Usually this kind of work is done under the overhead crane set up on the other end of the old shed....but it's got the dead Farmall M road grader under it now. Btw, I'm in the market for a running M engine if you happen to know of one close. Well, I THINK I am at least. I gotta get to that one to determine how bad its stuck. Might be an easy one compared to this one. LOL
@@tractorman4461 Off hand 't know of where one is. Also a McCormick Deering W-6 is the same as a Farmall M, so an engine from a W-6 should fit. It was the utility or standard version of the Farmall M.
Man yeah Mr Wendell, you are diving right in!! I love the caddy you made there, dig in the scrap pile for the casters!! 😉😉😁😁 Seems to be going well, but alot weird things there, esp with those gears🤔🤔🤔 The little Kubota to the rescue again!! She is gonna be rebuilding engines in no time 😉😉😁😁😁 You two are a hoot, love every min of it my friend!! Can't wait to see the next step!! Thank you for bringing us along!! 👍👍👍😁😁😁🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Yea, I can only think with the water leaking in the humidity level was elevated for a long period of time interior to the cavity around the gears. Dunno. I just hope a good cleaning will reveal good gears yet and not badly pitted ones. That would be another bad day. But time will tell. The little Kubota is worth its weight in gold. No pain, no strain, just a good handy compact but just powerful enough to do what we used to do by hand. Thanks for the visit and I'm glad to see you are enjoying the series.
Fifty Dead Tractors? Heck I only have 12 dead Tractors. and about that many that actually can be used. Good job on dissasembly and that rust is puzzeling.
Well she was right and wrong at the same time. A lot of them she included as 'dead' just need a battery or a carb cleaning or a gas tank sealant. She just hasn't seen them being used for a while but many of them would be running in an afternoon. There ARE a lot of really dead ones though...I gotta admit. But ya gotta have spare parts for the good ones. Those don't grow on trees so when a cheap one comes along, it comes to live here. LOL I've got about 15, probably more that are daily drivers and used for many different specific jobs. I'd have to stop and count and that's too hard. LOL
Fifty dead tractors? Come on Wendell! What are you doing on weekends?? Just kidding. Great video and a fun watch. You sure impress your wife with tractors more than I do. LOL Thanks for sharing, buddy. Oh yeah, been meaning to ask if you could email me with your address? Take care folks!
Weekends...?? Since I retired I ain't had a holiday or weekend since !! LOL I didn't know I'd miss work so bad. Actually that's a lie....I don't miss the job at all. I tried to send an email out of your 'about' tab and it wouldn't go. I must have done something wrong so I'll try again once I get back to a home computer.
T, I am feeling kind of bad. Your daughter was kind enough to make me a Tractorman44 long sleeve shirt to keep me warm in the shoulder and winter months (which I love , it's one of my favourites) but she didn't make you one?!?!! Just say'in....LOL! Cheers my friend!
Hahahahaha....never feel bad GP !! She's made me several long and short sleeve, but I hate to get them dirty working on rusty old greasy and oily tractors. I do wear them all the time going to town and on vacation and sometimes while splitting or cutting wood. You look good in the safety orange my friend and wear it well !!
Yeah that front end is a big solid cast piece, plus the rest of the hydraulics and the cylinders too !! I might have said it in the video, but usually I do this work outside under the overhead hoist where there is a selection of chainfalls to raise or lower multiple areas at once. Much, much easier too Doc !! My plan is to hit the rusty gears with a wire wheel then submerge them in an electrolysis tank.
