Cheers Paul! One step forward two steps back with my dad at the moment but hopefully things will sort themselves out soon. Even though Tomtain is a wee one i felt so happy driving home yesterday missed it big time!
Cheers for your reply, I do the mountains myself, did quite a few Corbetts and smaller hills when we were aloud out 😂 only 3 munros in the summer, but you're videos are really good for one's that I have not done yet, here's to 2021👍
At the beginning of March, just before the first lockdown, I suffered a bad attack of sciatica and for nearly four months could barely walk never mind hill walk. I was feeling pretty low. Towards the of June it miraculously started to ease off and I was able to start taking regular local walks, on which I began to look longingly at a pair of hills which, honestly, I wouldn't have given a second glance last year, Tomtain and Garrel Hil. At the beginning of July, despite still having pins and needles in my right leg and numbness in my foot, I did them as a tester with my grandson Matthew. A modest walk, but I was so happy to be on a hill again, any hill. It was something I didn't think was going to happen this year, and at my age, maybe never again. BTW, they were a bogfest in July (especially between the two summits), so dread to think what they are like now. And I'm glad to say, despite my gammy leg, I've managed to get out and done some bigger hills late summer and autumn.
BRILLIANT! Well done John! I thankfully i dont have Sciatica but i know someone who does and i can see how bad it is. It must have hurt more knowing that you couldnt make it up any hill big or small must have been very depressing. But well done in making it up to the summit and as you say it is boggy as hell but in these days who cares eh? Hope in due time the pain ease's more and you make it up more hills and make sure Matthew tags along too ;) All the very very best John, peter.
Gorgeous views! Yes, it's been a strange year. I took up running in lockdown, which helped with the fitness. Went to the Kilsyth Hills a few times for navigation practice, but I haven't climbed Tomtain. It looks like a great wee hill. The views from the Kilsyth Hills are fabulous - I was able to see Goat Fell, Tinto, the Perthshire hills and Arthur's Seat. In late August I did a couple of days camping near Derry Lodge, the first time I'd been to that part of the Cairngorms. I walked in in the moonlight. I'll definitely be back - it's beautiful! I climbed Carn a'Mhaim, Ben Macdui, Beinn Mheadhoin and Derry Cairngorm in one day - took me a long time to recover from all that! Sadly I didn't have enough space in my backpack to take my good camera, so no video. I do have a couple of videos to edit when I can find the time! Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
In one day!!! Ye mental?! lol! You are right it is brilliant up there. Where did you pitch your tent? Derry lodge area? What time was your final summit at can you mind?
@@MUNROSnCORBETTS Stark raving mad! That's what I was thinking as I made my weary way down Derry Cairngorm as the moon was rising - it looked amazing. It must have been about 8.45pm when I reached my tent. I set out at 8.30am so it took me about 12 hours. The walk up Carn a'Mhaim and Ben Macdui was amazing, and I've always wanted to climb Beinn Mheadhoin, so I just went for it. I was knackered when I reached the summit. The easiest way back to my tent was over Derry Cairngorm. I pitched it near the river, not far from Derry Lodge. Lovely spot. I didn't climb the tor on Mheadhoin, as I was the only one on the summit by that time, so I'll have to go back sometime and do it again!
@@natalieminnis I'm aware of that route(3 Munros) in fact i met some people who were doing just that and i assumed you added Beinn Mheadhoin on as well. That is day out alright and to be honest you were correct to head over Derry Cairngorm as the route back down through Glen Derry is very deceptive a lot longer than it looks. I can understand why you didnt climb the summit tor and it means you can bag it via the "Shelter Stone" route which is one of the best walks up there :)))
