i thought you support mvmt daniel wellington and the fifth and etc.. But i honestly dont care even if you are sponsored by them you make quality videos and deserve payment . you deserve more than 52k you should have at least 500k and be up there with jose antonio and Aaron
Seiko watches in general are great bang for the buck watches and the Seiko 5 is a great starting place to start. I'd add that moving time (but not day/date) FORWARD is fine while the date is in process of changing. Love your reviews and am glad you have been adding watches lately and not only apparel.
I have been wearing (and collecting) Seiko watches for over 40 years. I have to agree with the title of this video 100 percent. The Seiko 5 and Seiko 5/Sports are incredibly good watches for the money. The quality of the materials used to make the watch are durable and dependable. I have many working Seiko's that are over 30 years old, and have never been opened up, and still keep working like new. What else can you say?
I have this for almost 3 years and still going just like new, Great watch for the price, the one i have is snk809, it's the same but black. The thing about the day/date is that there is a gear that engages after 9:00pm (21:00) to change the day and date complication, if you try to change it at that moment you can break the little teeth from the gear, what i do is i just put the watch at 6:00, to ensure the gear is not engaged, then change the day/date.
the more you post this watch on social media the more I love it. green is my favourite colour so needless to say it's a must-have for my naturalistic wardrobe! awesome review and keep posting awesome stuff!
I’ve owned this watch for four years now. Takes a beating with everything you can throw at it. This watch is definitely waterproof. I’ve swam, deep sea fished, ocean swam several times, even snorkeled Nd never took in a drop of water. Great watch!
Thanks for your review. I'm a big watch guy and own many of them at various price points. Picked one of these up a couple of months ago. Amazing quality not just at this price point but across the board. Lume is good at night, presentation case back is neat. It is also an excellent watch for young people as it cannot be manually wound so there will be no crown / mainspring issues. If I was going to make two changes to the watch, add another $50.00 to the price point and add in a sapphire crystal and screw down crown with 600 feet WR. Now you have an incredible field watch for just over $120.00 dollars. That would probably make it the best all-around watch value in the industry. Even The Marathon mechanical field watch is not really all that WR and it costs $500.00+. I think the best all-around value currently in field watches is the Hamilton Khaki Field watch with brown leather band. I own them all but the Seiko Five gets the most wrist time. Again, very nice review and you are spot on with your opinion about the watch band. Cheap!!!!!!! But I like its simplicity and just can’t bring myself to replacing it just yet : )
Greetings from northen Sweden and a fellow watch entusiast. I just got my SNK805 a few days ago and so far I love it, haven't yet checked accuracy. I got it as a second casual wearer, bright yellow Vostok Kommenderski is the other one. For a beater I have a Bertucci A-3P and it does take a beating as I am a mechanic on city buses. Next watch will be a Rotary "Sherlock"... I have a thing for roman numerals and small seconds hand. Great video by the way.
just ordered the beige color SNK803-5 ,$59.39 on amazon prime total about $63 bucks total.my first seiko automatic.they say if you want to start out with an automatic watch, the seiko 5 versions are one to get.great review glad you told about not changing the date between 9 and 3.
Great review! Especially for a non-watch dedicated channel. And I've watched more watch reviews than I'd like to admit. You are correct, it is 37mm. I would have owned one already, but it's a little too small and I don't have any 18mm straps.
I have this watch (my first automatic watch actually) and love it. I have the model with dark blue face, and I got a couple of third-party bands (currently I use a gray one with an orange stripe). Looks really sharp.
I've had this watch for a year. I love it. Extremely accurate - loses between 3 and 4 seconds per day. I still can't believe I paid only £60 for it. It exudes quality, and the dial is very pleasing with that deep olive-green colour.
If you don't wear it during the night's sleep, I propose doing so for several days on end and checking its accuracy in the process. You'll probably discover it loses 1-2 seconds per 24 hrs. Mine (a SNKL) actually gains 4+ sec's on average, yet when I wear it at least 22.5 hours per day it gains only about 1 second per day.
For those people worried about the mineral glass, it's a special card (Seiko Hardlex) and I have not had any problems with my watch getting damaged or scratched and I have scuffed it against many rough surfaces on accident. It's quite durable! Edit: Also I believe you meant to say that you shouldn't change the day/date while it is between the specific times , I believe it is fine to change the times whenever.
From what i've read, it depends on what time your particular watch starts is date movement. You don't want to change while the gears have already started on the date change. That could cause problems in the future.
Good timing. I just bought a different Seiko 5 and a two-watch mover with a little extra storage to store it and my other watch, which is a solar powered one. I just asked myself if there is an inexpensive more casual automatic watch out there to go into the mover. The other two watches have metal straps, so I was looking for something made out of textile. Then along comes this video.
Good review. I have had my watch for about 4years. The comment on not swimming with the watch, I wouldn't agree. I swim with mine a lot and never had an issue with it.
About the dial design on this watch: it's based off of a design that Germany's Luftwaffe from the 40's used. Specifically, it's the type B dial, with the hours relegated to an inner circle. Keywords to find more about the design are Flieger B-type, B-uhr. They were meant to be used over the coats and handled with gloves, so the original design specified a 55mm dial (huge and therefore readable), a long and wide strap (to fit around a thick jacket), and the crown was big and diamond shaped (to allow it to be easily pinched while still wearing gloves). Laco, one the manufacturers allowed to manufacture this design back then, who are still in business, sell replicas of it. But for the price they're asking, you can buy 50 of these Seikos...
Razevok Spot on! The Seiko is a scaled-down version of the 55mm B-Uhr, used by the Luftwaffe in WW2. The Seiko even has the German watch's hands copied. monochrome-watches.com/the-history-of-the-pilot-watch-part-five-b-uhr/
The only other thing I would add is you can't manually wind it, and will only wind up if you shake it/wear it. Small gripe for an otherwise awesome value and watch!
+Eugenio Padilla good point. That would be nice. And I've found that the power reserve (supposedly 40 hours) isn't amazing. But yeah, for $58 I'm not complaining!
Great review! Would love to get one, I used to be in the army but I only have one other watch and Im gonna get a Seiko diver because this one is a bit too casual
I wish it was with a Type A flieger dial, rather than Tybe B that is too busy for such a small watch (type B fliegers were large sized). I also wish the 5 logo was more subtle, like a similar green as the dial. Looks too much like the Superman logo. I also wish the day / date window was green instead of white. The Citizen BM8180 is similar but a bit cleaner. But Eco Drive, not automatic.
Hey Brock is there a way you could review EONIQ watches (if affordable)? They have a website to customize watches, and I'm looking to buy the $300 version with sapphire glass and automatic movement, but I haven't seen any good English review videos. I wanted to know if they are worth the buy, considering how customizable they are.
And... If you would like to upgrade the crystal to sapphire, even the one in the back cover that can be done too. Don't think that the movement in these isn't worth servicing either, they a high-grade, fine movement and can be regulated to a very few seconds a day, just as with the Miyota 8200 series.
No, those brands don’t really do that. But they go on sale regularly on Amazon, Jomashop and Long Island Watch. You can also buy secondhand from Reddit’s watchexchange sub.
You can advance the time past 3 (to around 6) then continue setting the date/time. You just shouldn’t change the date between 9-3 because it may already be engaged.
@@RedNip123 It's possible for this to happen, but this should be an exception. In any case, the watch can be regulated and this eliminates the problem. Proper regulation brings a Seiko 5 to a Rolex grade of accuracy (within +-2 sec's per day).
Wait it is " slightly watch resistant" it is a "military watch" by the website and forces may have to swim and they need a waterproof watch but apart from it looks pretty good

My one can't hold power. I shake it to start, but even if I wear it, next time I look at it it's stopped on the hand. And forget about it even staying on overnight when I sleep. It stopped hours ago
How much time had you had this watch in your possession? Was it perhaps second-hand (pre-owned)? Of course the possibility that defects got somehow past quality control at the factory can't be dismissed entirely. But it is at least equally likely that the movement is seriously dirty or sustained a mechanical shock that it couldn't handle. You ought to decide if you should get it serviced/repaired, or you may want to purchase another watch.
horrible case, strap and movement. Just wear it all the time as you can't hand wind it. My edc is Vostok Amphibia 200m waterproof hand wind able. Quirky but I love it. I have had a Seiko like this. It was ok. Hardlex crystal scratched on the first day. This watch is good for a teenager. Nice honest review.
Great watch design. Too bad Seiko doesn’t see fit to use the far more accurate NH35a/4r35 with hacking and winding capability. Invicta uses it in their $80 8926OB diver. Seiko makes a killing off this watch, even at $50-$80.

I understand that it is a way better watch than an MVMT but honetly its just not as cool looking. If you just want to look cool and a MVMT watch id cool then buy it, maybe its quality is not as great as this, but if it looks cooler and thats what you're looking for, I say go for it.
Ever heard of Vincero? Seems like they have really made a name for themselves recently.
+Noah Smith I have one of their first models but none of their newer ones. I think they're all well over 40mm, if I'm not mistaken, which is too big for my wrist.
Mine came running 8 seconds per day fast.
For a few dollars more, you can get the Seiko 5 with hacking, a much-better size and doubled water resistance.
I wish it was as small as this one, though. 37mm is a better size IMO.
The current ones only say water resistant, no more 30meters...=\
it's $78 not $55 on Amazon

This watch is going for around ~$80 now :/
Preparation for talking about the watch, eh?
