also what if it was all the same girl? that would make it very psychological. not saying there is evidence that it is, but I seem to be pulled toward meanings around it as if it were one person descending a staircase....
Not quite the illusionistic stairs I saw yesterday, but lovely nonetheless. The point about the visual creating a musical scale was unexpected, but makes sense when you think of harmony, patterns, and progression. How interesting. I'm not used to seeing humans used to symbolize other forms of artistic expression that way... "How can it be here at once and exist over time?" Now that I have seen in painting - anachronism. I think you guys had another term for that, but I don't remember it at the moment. 😅 This painting accomplishes what it was meant to. Each figure is evocative without us having to distinguish individual "notes." This one got me, much like yesterday's did!
Just sublime!!!!!!
B-J would be happy to hear you say that!
Raphael in : Stunning work with grace and foresight : 💙 Amen
This is one of my all-time favorites by Burne Jones

Has anyone noticed that Duchamp may have been inspired by ...but also protesting against this painting in his "nude descending a staircase" ???
