This reissue is my first ever G1 toy that I bought and especially my first time even handling a G1 Soundwave. I completely missed Devastator and Starscream because I was still in high school and didn’t have a job yet when they were out, and I passed on Optimus and never saw Hot Rod. Eventually I got Optimus and Hot Rod, but Soundwave was my first G1 reissue and my first G1 toy at all. I found him and both of his cassette packs within the same week, I believe and for the longest time, he was my only G1 and I’ve loved him ever since I got him.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, George! I'm so glad I found your channel. So I'm mixing in some reissues with my 1980s originals! We don't have Walmart over here, but I did manage to pick up the 2009 SOUNDWAVE reissue, the one with FOUR cassettes, which I've left sealed. And for Christmas, my Mother-in-law (with a few helpful directions from me!) bought me the 2003 reissue which I have opened. I love it! Thank you so much for your reviews, especially the cool tips on how to keep your Transformers in minty fresh condition during transformation. I've also got the Walmart versions of OPTIMUS PRIME and HOT ROD on their way too, and a STARSCREAM reissue as well, but I can't remember if he's Walmart or not. Either way, Hasbro ought to pay you commission! Thank you once more, and best wishes for the year ahead!

I initially thought $50 was just a bit too much for Soundwave, but not as big as a ripoff as a $50 Optimus, but still a high price. However, watching him sell out at every walmart I've seen him has made me reassess that price, and I decided to go ahead and get him. I'm happy to have him, and as a bonus I picked up Optimus on clearance for $13.
When my Soundwave started to slouch forewords, I put some actual AA batteries in the back to work as a counter balance to keep him standing straight. I also cut some pen springs to insert into his cannon, as well as Optimus's trailer battle platform. I even cut out the Deception logo out of the catalog page and used some glue stick to put it on the cassette door. I noticed the change in the mold when I picked up the Takara reissue in the early 2000's. My guess it was done because the springs in the original design tended to warp the door over time. An excellent comparative review!

I bought the G1 Reissue Soundwave with the Buzzsaw Minicassette on December 20th, 2019 for the price that he was selling for; $49.99. Then, on January 3rd, 2020, I bought him from the same Walmart in Abbeville, Louisiana on clearance for $30.00. Afterwards, I bought both sets of the Decepticon Minicassettes that were on clearance for $12.14, that included tax. I think I did pretty well on getting those. Thank you for your excellent review on G1 Soundwave Reissue from Walmart.
Cool! I found Rumble and Ravage for 11.84 at one Walmart they had 5 packs but no Laserbeak & Frenzy. And all the Soundwaves in my area are still 49.99! BTW thanks for watching!
Bought a version of this on eBay that came today and then have watched many reviews on it today-styrafome, firing missile, hologram stickers that came loose not on the main sticker sheet. One thing I learned was that the stickers on the inside of the lower legs (red and black striped) were supposed to go one each battery to indicate that it was a battery. I saw a reviewer say that Hasbro originally got this wrong.
Blaster and Astrotrain are supposed to be reissued in 2020 next year at Walmart. I hope that they would also reissue his original G1 Autobot Minicassettes, the 1st four that we all are definitely familiar with. Steeljaw, Rewind, Ramhorn, and Eject.
I am glad I watched this. Because I believe having been shown how the legs are supposed to be pulled down or out by the hip before transforming him in humanoid form is VERY IMPORTANT to know. I remember when I was a kid seeing at least 2 of the originals with a broken off leg. One was at a rummage sale. When I was a kid I wanted this Transformer so bad it hurt (I begged my parents for 3 month.)but I got Grimlock instead. Now I will be getting this in the mail in 3 days!
I found one at Walmart yesterday with a $12.95 tag on it. I didn't hesitate to make the purchase! Buzzsaw was such an underrated character. He only had one appearance in the g1 cartoon.
Great score! I had the same thing happen when I purchased G1 reissue starscream! Buzzsaw actually appeared several times in the cartoon first in City of Steel then Sub-Atlantica, Insecticon Syndrome and Auto Berserk,
@@80sTransfromersFan thanks for the info. My Transformers history is a little rusty. Now I want to watch those episodes when I get home from work! Great score on the Starscream
Soundwave was my first Transformer, followed by Optimus Prime. but soundwave was the one I always carried around me with everywhere. he was my favorite. sadly it was stolen from me out of my own home. I saw two of them left yesterday at walmart so I'm thinking about going and picking one up in a while. I just want soundwave back, that's all.
That's what I remember to the styrofoam. Where is the styrofoam and the English language only that was awesome. What a simple time. Great review! I'm a big. Transformers fan to. Keep bringing us those good reviews. I enjoyed them.
Late to the party but I finally got ahold of one of these babies as well as his minions, definitely worth it. Yeah there's things that can be nitpicked (like the stickers for sure, still don't know what Hasbro's thinking with the cheapness of those things) but happy with these figures. Missed them the first time, but miraculously my closest Walmart restocked them last week, long after others have told me stores near them clearanced these out. Oh well. Watched when this first dropped, but rewatched this as soon as I got home lol
I think the buzz saw doesn’t fit well in sound waves chest. I had trouble opening the door once I had it in. Just by pushing the button down to open it I actually broke sound waves door, but luckily I was able to return it and find another reissue sound wave. I put Frenzy in his chest and that works way better because frenzy is thinner than buzz saw.
I got most of the reissues and have been itching to open them ...i just haven't brought myself to do it yet...I'll probably do devastator though i have too !!!
Soundwave is my favourite Transformer! I still have my original toy (not the box though). I also bought the original MINT condition one - tight joints, and recently bought a re-issue, but not from Walmart....but online that is much more closer to the original than Walmart's version. I have this re-issue in the box. un opened :)
@@GavStaR79 yes it is. After a couple of months on me shelf the stickers just fell off of mine. But I put a dab of glue on them and they stayed in place.
The idiots at Walmart bent the top flap that says Transformers back and wrapped a safety device around the box. So not only is the flap bent back the strings from the safety devise is cutting into the box in 4 places, and $20.00 for the cassettes is a Rip-Off
Yes and yes I saw that on line it's really sad. I haven't seen Soundwave in stores since I found the one I reviewed but I'm hoping the anti theft device's are not at all Walmart stores.
Wanted this one bad(I got the Optimus and astrotrain)but I didn't have the.money at the time and the figure looked tiny in that huge box for $50 and I didn't have this one as a small child like the 2 reissues I have, the nostalgia factor of having the same figure in the mid 80s is what pushes me over the edge into shelling out big $ for these g1 reissue transformers.
dude the battery thing, mind BLOWN!! Thanks man! One thing I hate about the instructions then and now, is they dont tell you everything, ie the batteries, but like on the new siege line. Forget about it. there is so much cannon (as in official, not gun) placement of the weapons. But what I love about the siege is that all the pegs have let alot of people make there own combinations and modes. YOU HAVE TO CHECK OUT THE REFRAKTOR HAND MODE! I dont get why they give extra missiles with sound wave. One thing that disappoints me is how sloppy some of the cuts are from the factory.
@@80sTransfromersFan BRO your gonna love this! Check right around 9 minutes in... And let me know what you think. Also they made up for him a jet mode which feels legit, because it feels like he needs a 3rd mode. th-cam.com/video/VpRErXesHgU/w-d-xo.html
dude, I remember/knew that the weapons store in the back but I don't believe I ever thought of them as batteries. cool. And your right, didn't know about the microphone....but that's legit or what a fan came up with? have to look that one up. great vid. I picked up the Walmart. I have the original (somewhere buried), like yours...new and no stickers..in a acrylic box somewhere. I was going to compare them. thanks
I love this figure, but I have some issues with mine. The left leg won’t extend when I’m transforming soundwave from cassette recorder to robot and buzzsaw’s head keeps falling off. I’m really worried about soundwave’s leg breaking in the long run, it’s already a little wobbly. The other leg isn’t like that and it doesn’t have the issue of it not extending
Wow that sucks! My Soundwave was fine except for the stickers. I've had similar issues with other figures and transformers in the past and probably in the future. But the good thing about buying at retail is you can return it and try another one. I don't believe its a wide spread defect.
That’s the plan. It’s already getting worse so I’m just going to return it before it breaks. Not sure if I really want to buy another one now, this was a really poor first impression. It’s a real shame, soundwave is my favorite and out of all the ones I could have gotten it had to be one with a shitty defect. It’s gotten even worse now too if you can believe that. If I transform it anymore it’ll probably break.
FANTASTIC REVIEW THE 80'S TRANSFORMERS FAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D I may have to get Soundwave, since he is one of the all time greatest Transformers toys/characters. :D Keep up the outstanding work you do, Double Thumb's Up. ;D
I really like the Walmart reissue. But I have to say The Year of the Goat Platinum Edition Soundwave is probably my favorite. I think you should do a comparison video between the year of the goat Soundwave, MP-02 Soundwave and MP-13 Soundwave. I think that would be awesome review.
@@80sTransfromersFan Oh ok. Why you sell it? I have YOTG Optimus Prime & Soundwave. I also pre ordered the MP-13 from BBTS. I'm on the look out for MP-02 for a good price.
I only found 1 Soundwave where I lived while Optimus Prime was sittting for months.A person could buy 20 or 30 Optimus Primes if they wanted because he was so easy to find.
Nice dropping the microphone knowledge of soundwave the mini cassette recorder . Also little known fact the stickers many put on the the left and right sides( I did too on my G1 ) actually go on the batteries. I have a very good condition orginal so im torn if i need him? Who am I kidding its soundwave my all time favorite!! I hate how they altered the cassette weapons on these.
TakaraTomy needs to get to work on an MP-13+ G1 toy-accurate Soundwave with the sticker details, the yellow robot mode eyes and vice versa. I know Hasbro made their version of yellow-eyed Masterpiece G1 Soundwave, but he ALMOST looked G1 toy-accurate.
Do you have the LinkIn Park edition Soundwave? Or have you ever seen it? It was a rip-off with Optimus Prime reissue because you did not get the trailer. I thought that was pretty messed up not to include the trailer. But I still bought a few of them when they went on clearance at Walmart. LOL
Yes I have the Linkin Park Soundwave! I pulled it out in my basement updated video 3 weeks ago . From what I understand about the Optimus release Walmart wanted a lot of different things to happen with the trailer and Hasbro just said screw it.
@@80sTransfromersFan oh ok. I will look for your LinkedIn Park soundwave video. What's the next Walmart reissue Transformer you think they going to release?
Stinger Stop motion creator Right I kinda figured Their was Something goin On with That being A Possible Reason aa To Why Megatron hasn’t already came out as A Reissue . Well Even if they made Orange Plugs I’d Still Get 1 .
😂 no way those two packs are 19.99 each ! That makes them 10 bucks each 3 bucks more than the individual minibots like Bumblebee . Mark my words they will be on clearance by the end of October . Just in time for the Christmas rest.
I do hate the tape deck on the reissues. I know they had to redo the Soundblaster mold as the original Soundwave mold got damaged. But I really like the sleek look of the original tape deck on the original Soundwave.
I've never handled a G1 Buzzsaw/Lazerbeak so sorry if this an otherwise obvious question, but the gold/red parts of the birds, are those diecast or just painted plastic? Also what upgrades are on your Frenzy and Rumble?
Those parts are diecast! Frenzy (blue) has crazy devy upgrade grades I got from bigbadtoystore.com 10 years ago and Rumble (red) has upgrades from a Ebay customizer I can't remember the name I purchased 11 years ago.

The original release in 84 had a Decepticon emblem on the chest factor applied. Then in 85 they went to the rub sign and it was replaced by a factory applied rub sign. So guess it came down to on or the other. I think they made the right choice.

I'm wondering does the reissue transformers will have some kind of value in the future? As a collectible? I know definitely the vintage ones are valuable and astronomical in price
Wow, it took me like forever to get back to this. I actually picked up G1 Soundwave from Walmart sometime last summer, and I'm damn glad I did. I've owned precious few TF toys from the 1984 line, but between the ones I did get and what I've seen of others, Soundwave just might be the most complete TF toy of that year's entire line and maybe even the next couple of years after that. It's almost easily the most articulated TF toy with probably as many show-relevant accessories as any other. And thanks for dropping all that extra knowledge on this Soundwave, man. I didn't know about the legs and arms being able to pull away slightly from their sockets to make transforming easier, though. I just thought I had made the arms and legs a little too loose when they pulled out some, lol.
I have most of them, I started collecting motuc when they very first came out but lost the first couple years worth in a fire. Well, i still have all of the MIBs that were damaged by smoke from the fire, but they are discolored by caustic soot from all of my vintage 5.5 inch stuff that burned including my childhood Grayskull. I kept collecting classics for years and years. I’m stoked on the new 5.5” figures but I actually think super seven did a great job and I was hoping super seven would make mini comic versions of all of the classics along with a few other cool figures they never made in the vintage format, as if the old line never ended. They knocked He-Ro & Edlor outta the park

I got mine on X-mas '84 as well ....my first Transformer! Always my favorite!
I think it's amazing that Soundwave is some many people first and favorite transformers toy! My first was Prowl and my favorite is Optimus Prime .
@@80sTransfromersFan "Die cast metal....it's a lost art" 👍
Soundwave was my first Transformer, followed by Optimus Prime. but soundwave was the one I always carried around me with everywhere. he was my favorite. sadly it was stolen from me out of my own home. I saw two of them left yesterday at walmart so I'm thinking about going and picking one up in a while. I just want soundwave back, that's all.
Dude, that really sucks.
great video, I didn't remember all the tape options until you laid them all out. Nice!
Thanks for doing the compare between the original release, dope video!
You welcome! I'm happy my content was appreciated. And thanks for watching.
I actually have this figure ordered today, I don't know when he will come but I am so excited for him to come
Cool congrats! I hope you enjoy it!
Great video I got mine too before Christmas here in Ancaster Ontario Canada I did have one as a kid as well LoL
Soundwave is my favorite G1 Transformer. I think he is perfect in robot mode and in alt-mode.
He's number 5 on my list.
Awesome man thanks for info just picked mine up last weekend but keeping in box
I think the buzz saw doesn’t fit well in sound waves chest. I had trouble opening the door once I had it in. Just by pushing the button down to open it I actually broke sound waves door, but luckily I was able to return it and find another reissue sound wave. I put Frenzy in his chest and that works way better because frenzy is thinner than buzz saw.
Wow that weird! Mine works just fine. But I guess there's always the one bad one.
I think soundwave used a microphone in an episode or to.
I got most of the reissues and have been itching to open them ...i just haven't brought myself to do it yet...I'll probably do devastator though i have too !!!
Definitely open them!
Awesome! I has a full Vintage G1 Soundwave review up I did more recently. Feel free to check out and tell me what you think.
@@80sTransfromersFan Will do. Great Reissue Walmart Review btw!
@@80sTransfromersFan so is it a limited time only?
@@SuperMarioPlush220 no just sold out near me.

Nice tape collection and review, cool.
dude the battery thing, mind BLOWN!!
What is the Refraktor Hand Mode???
@@80sTransfromersFan BRO your gonna love this! Check right around 9 minutes in...
And let me know what you think.
Also they made up for him a jet mode which feels legit, because it feels like he needs a 3rd mode.

I have the original (somewhere buried), like yours...new and no stickers..in a acrylic box somewhere. I was going to compare them. thanks
Which country did you get the g1 soundwave because I live in the northern side of America and my local walmarts don't have any.

@@SuperMarioPlush220 Oh I believe it's my Masterpiece Soundwave review. I have to check.
I just got the toy today today and I mange a review is but your review is much better then mine lol.
I don't see the video on your channel?

@@80sTransfromersFan You are welcome. :D
I actually sold my YOTG Soundwave a couple of years ago.

I only found 1 Soundwave where I lived while Optimus Prime was sittting for months.A person could buy 20 or 30 Optimus Primes if they wanted because he was so easy to find.
I've only seen 3 Soundwaves counting the one I purchased. But I haven't seen Optimus Prime I a long time in my area.
Got an education watching this for sure. Great review
Thank you!
Joseph Lepkowski I put those stickers on the batteries too. They look very weird on the inside of the legs.
I really want G1 Soundwave vintage toy.
Looking forward to these showing up in stores.
Hope we get a shockwave or brutecus reissue
Astrotrain and Blaster are next.
@@80sTransfromersFan good I must get them at launch though.
Finally tracked it down, but compared to my 2004 Takara re-issue it feels lightter and cheaper.

Me too.

Winder why he did not have a rub sign?🤔
The original release in 84 had a Decepticon emblem on the chest factor applied. Then in 85 they went to the rub sign and it was replaced by a factory applied rub sign. So guess it came down to on or the other. I think they made the right choice.

Lol my prop guy sucks. Do you collect MOTU CLASSICS?
