He even broke the national record with a wounded leg . His competitors were jealous of him and they stabbed spikes in his leg. It could have been a permanent injury but he still willed to run and who knew that he may break the national record .
Milkha Singh is most infamously known for an Olympic race where he was pegged to win, but at the moment of the final sprint he turned around to look back, resulting in him not winning the race. This movie draws a comparison between this race and when as a kid, during the partition, his family had to flee Pakistan Punjab to reach Indian Punjab. And during that escape his parents and family were slaughtered. So the comparison here is that his mother was shouting out to Milkha "BHAG" (Run) while the rest of the family was being killed and the race. The movie tries to present Milkha's though process, that while running in that race he was brought back to that same mental state of mind when he was escaping the raiders slaughtering his family, and he had to turn back to see them.
dude that part isnt true because during that olympic race he ran faster than the indian national record but still didnt win. that scene was just filmy af.
karan bhandari yep... he just simply didn't win. But still a legend though. From where he came from and where he reached... I think he kinda won the race of life.
Alright, Milkha Singh's story started during the India-Pakistan partition. He was a little boy in Pakistan then and had to escape to India (because he is Sikh, not Muslim) while he lost most of his family. He spent a major part of his life in refugee camps and learnt to steal to survive. Fast forwarding to the future, he has joined the Indian Army and learns that he likes running. That scene where you think he was"told" to run, that was in the room of a fellow competitor, trying on HIS India blazer. He is slapped because he had to earn it. He is asked to go to Pakistan for a friendly game, but finds it difficult because that was home, but also the place his family was murdered. That's just the background. Watch the movie! It's long, but quite inspirational.
Sowjanya Chandrasekhar noo he didn't started running because he liked it.. But he started running because he wanted more food(eggs ..banana and milk and other stuffs) ...thats why he applied to sport quota... Then he wanted to wear that indian blezzer and called thief and disrespected... That hurt his ego after that there was no stopping him.
He was born in Pakistan, had his entire family massacred during India & Pakistan partition therefore he has those haunting memories, which is why he says he won't be able to run there..!!
he was born in India only in the part which is now pakistan.. pakistan wasn't a nation until 1947 . but india has been a nation for more than 2000 years ! yes his family was massacred during partition .. So he was born in India only , but that part is with pakistan now. pakistan a so called new nation . India got independence from british , and at that same time pakistan was born. india already existed, but pakistan never did
But there was no india at that time also at that time there is baresager where muslims live and hindus live as well but in 1947 baresager was divided into two countries which is pakistan and india...I think u guys understand
Mirza Ibrar there was alway the country called india.. Every European colonisers sailed out to the sea to search for india.. That is why when colombus found america he thought it was india and named the local people there indian(red indian). And it was also the british company east INDIAN(not pakistani) company that came to india..
Hope's interpretation of "This is going to be your last race" was bang on. I like the fact that your friends add value to your reactions/ reviews. They are not just there for the fun times. Hope and Jess Hoffman both are able to understand these nuances without really knowing much about the culture or the world the movies are set in.
I would really appreciate if you do a little bit of research about Milkha Singh ( Wiki it) and then watch the trailer / movie ( subtitles would be better) . The whole perspective of this movie would change for you and 'Hope' fully you would find this very motivational. The trivia behind Farhan Akhtar doing this movie is insane and how Sports was looked up as a career in India in mid 50s . Strongly Suggest !
He is such a kind man, he is 90 years rn. When i saw the movie it motivated my to be an athelete, i was in 1st grade at that time, my eyes started sparkling . I went to his house as my aunt knows him personally, the meeting was on 28 August 2013 , i still has his autograph. I have heard his interview where he was upset that since more than 40 years, i haven't seen another milkha singh till now. I am practicing for that moment.
This movie touched me so much. I cried watching the movie. Cz i can relate what it is to struggle with ur dreams. Though our story is not same but the thing that he might had felt while going for his dreams. I feel it now.
+jaby koay I am from India. So I can safely say that we have never met. However believe it or not you look a lot like my boyfriend. I am not even kidding.
this movie is sick! I actually watched it when I was on my trip to my state level athletic meet. and my event was the same as him...400m and you have no idea how much this movie inspired me. I mean seeing the trailer I would have never watched the movie cuz I'm not usually into such kinda movies..but I was on the bus with all my friends..(co athletes) and our sir put it on the TV and watched it. I literally was crying! watching this movie. soo inspirational!
So whoever that Moumita is does not want to touch the subject of Pakistan and what they did to his family when she explained to him what the movie is about. That is a big part of this story. Sick of this pseudo Indians with zero knowledge and guts to speak up about reality.
His life wasn't threatened, it was because he was running in Pakistan against the Flying bird of Asia Abdul Khaliq, and if he lost Indians will never forgive him, but he had to because he was born on the Pakistani side in Muzaffargarh where his family was slaughtered, and he had a point to make. So it may have been his last run if he had lost. He won and President Ayub Khan gave him the title of The Flying Sikh.
one quick tip: "never loose focus until trailer is over, you twice missed the guy chasing him on a horse at the end of the trailer." that was something to talk/watch about ...
Hey Jaby! This is not just any inspirational movie. This is biopic of Mr. Milkha Singh who is one of the greatest sportsman who broke the world record. This movie is a true story.
What world record?? Correct your facts, he missed the chance to win the Olympic bronze by fraction of second. He was a national record holder though :)
jaby its the same guy in hrithik roshan movie zindagi na milegi dobara. where you said they have taken lesser men to highlight the Greek god. that's Farhan akhtar ,he got ripped for bhaag milkha bhaag.
For me the greatest sports and motivational movie to come out of Bollywood ever.....and one of the greatest bollywood movie ever made.....only a handful of bollywood movie I don't mind watching over and over again...Milkaji , living legend of our country....
One of my favorite movies! That's much more to the movie than you guys can ever get by just the trailor! And, if it's not just the story, it is emotions as well!
Milkha Singh had a phobia of pakistan. His family originally hailed from pak but during separation of countries in 1947 communal war broke out. He ran ("bhaaga") for his life, as he turned back to look, he saw his family being butchered by swordsmen on horsebacks. He was just a child, age less than 10. He grew up to be an excellent runner & represented India in international competitions. But his phobia never left. He could still feel shadows of those swordsmen on horsebacks coming for him.....
Its an amazing movie, gives me goose bumps everytime! I'd recommend to watch it very strongly. Trivia: Milkha singh had the world record until Usain Bolt came and broke it!
Com'on yaar srk may he was a star but not anymore people in india know about movie. People studied it, not few quite many. So I think it's bullshit that after so many years all he is doing is shirt k button kholo, body par oil lagao, slow motion gussa gussa kar movie lumbi karo which is utter bulshit. I appreciate his work that why I think he should actually work as an idol now because in any way he is not going to work after 60.
Jab bhi maine pehli baar milka ji ki biography movie dekhi toh bahut aacha laga unki lyf ki kahani aaj dubara dekhkar fir se upar se niche tak goosebumps aa gye
If you're depending on Moumita's expertise, you're only ever gonna be watching Indian films that are in one language, Hindi. In fact though, there are 8 major movie industries in India. Kaaka Muttai, that you did earlier, was from a different industry within India. Do more of these other language movies too. Find Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali movies. Help them diversify, Moumita.
Milkha singh win the heart of India when he win final match against pakistan ... milkha singh life is very very difficult and then he achive that much its very big thing
I'm writing this comment so late but I couldn't help it,moumita absolutely ruined it for these foreigners making the story sound so blank and purposeless, not even touching the partition thing which was the most important part of that story. Also the part where the lady goes like"okay so he's like the underdog" well no he's not,he's the favorite but that race isn't just with his opponent,it's so much more,it reflects the past from which he's running and just can't help but look back his loving family being murdered brutally, that's why he said he won't be able to run it Pakistan PS- sorry for such a long comment,I really tried to keep it as short as I possibly could, but it's absolutely unfair that she so inaccurately described the movie which is a great man's hard and inspiring journey of life,I really suggest you all to watch this movie as it is a classic portraying so many aspects of human life from funny to emotional covering the happy moments of life as well as tragic,it's truly one of a kind movie
i am a pakistani, and i am deeply sad at milkha g s story, partition ruined both sikhs and muslims, only punjab did bleed, there was no fault of milkha g s family as there was no fault of many muslims who died., there are millions of conclusions, but no single can be said guilty., The knowledge the education that is the power which was absent then and we both acted brutally and killed but our ownselves..... 💔💔💔 i pray that may sense prevail and we are able to accept our mistakes and be sensible from now on as we are one.
The most emotional scene was when young Milkha came back home and found that his entire family had been killed and piled up in their backward. And then he, searching for his mother found that she was also in the pile with his head cut by a sword. Really emotional.😯😯
Fun fact : Farhan Akhtar (the protagonist) took only 11 rupees to do this movie as a sign of respect to Milkha Singh.
