I worked for Disney as a full time professional salaried cast member, a part time cast member and a professional contractor totaling 25 years. When I joined the company in 1987 the company was GREAT. The company now sucks. I don’t blame you for quitting. You have a bright future no matter what you choose to do! Best of luck! Disney is going down hill. Don’t go down with them.
Gosh I’ve always wondered what the glory of Disney was like in the 80s 90s; it was so magical in the early 2000s before it started going downhill, I’m so sad I can’t experience that in my career
My niece is there now and absolutely hates it. Basically indentured servitude. 12 hour shits in food service. This is not a college program. It’s using kids as cheap labor. Her term ends August 25 and she’s counting the days. I told her use this as a good life lesson in how corporate America treats people and what kind of manger she will be in the future.
@@timothybernardi68 So you support the groomer bill? Maybe you're a member of NAMBLA. When the upper management of Disney is basically supported by these types of people, Disney becomes dangerous.
How Disney has treated Cast members and especially entertainers over the past few years is discussing. I have worked in many roles with them back in the 90’s, It was a great company then but not anymore. You’re lucky to get out now!
I have traveled from New England to WDW ten times, staying on property, eating exclusively at WDW restaurants and buying their merchandise. My last visit was in 2017 and from what I hear, I probably wont be returning. The live entertainment was always an appeal to me and so much of that has not returned. Also the stories about animatronics in disrepair is disheartening. It sounds like Disney no longer cares about quality. I do still have very fond memories from past visits that will never leave me.
I worked in hospital and hotel housekeeping for years as I went to college. I hurt my body by lifting too much weight. I’m also short. You made the right choice leaving as it can lead to more health conditions. You have a great talent to do something much more fulfilling. So happy you saw that in yourself now.
Girrrlll!! I did the college program in spring 2013 and I was getting worked 60 hours a week- warn your friends it’s not a staffing issue, it’s a company culture issue! Still love the parks but also self termed from my program because it’s not the magic they hype it to be! Props to you for making this decision and following a new dream! Love following you!!!
Nothing has changed apparently. My niece is there now and her term ends Aug. 25. She can’t wait. 12 hour shifts in food service. They working those kids like indentured servants.
Really interesting to hear the backstory. I'm a college prof, and had students do the Disney program about 20 years ago. It sounds so different than their experience. Glad you were brave enough to walk away. I hate to say this, but I'm not surprised. We have been Disney fans for years, going almost every year. I just cancelled this years trip due to the obvious problems at Disney. Good luck in the future.
Yep! I started my dcp last June as a house person and self termed in November. I was at DAKL and they treated us like garbage. Made us work 10 hr shifts 5-6 days a week and then would “forget to add our overtime” to our checks. I injured my hip twice while working there and the management team refused to help or accommodate me. It was the worst time of my entire life.
Doesn't surprise me at all! I did the program back in 2010. I think MK stayed open way later back then. We'd consistently work 10-12 hours, 5-6 days a week, a mix of day and overnight shifts...like 6pm-4am one day and 2pm-12am the next. I don't remember ever getting overtime. I was constantly sick working there. Everyone thought I was crazy when I self-termed but I just knew my worth smh between that and how badly they handled housing stuff, no way. Nothing wrong with leaving a bad job for something better, Disney is no exception.
@@accountforwastingtime that part! My friends who worked on attractions or childrens activities thought I was crazy too! Like I wish my job was easy. DAKL also had a ton of OSHA violations that caused many people to get hurt and we were told to “pretend like the compactor works if asked by directors. Whole thing was a joke.
@@PlayAndRage oh wow!!! What a joke! I remember it was the BIGGEST deal me coming home but I feel like self terming wasn't really as "popular" you rarely heard of people doing it. Now there are so many other opportunities out there! Why stay in a bad one? But yesss my friends in the program didn't get it at all- but they also worked steady 35-40hr weeks & were always off by 9 and had great coworkers&managers 🙄EVERYONE i worked with who was FT seemed miserable! Edit: omg just remembered how we had a missing kid in our area, the parents were SO freaked out and my manager was so...annoyed! Like she literally didn't care & was irritated she got bothered with it!
@@accountforwastingtime I didn’t get off until 11:30 and the buses didn’t pick us up until 12:30. Then get home at 1 lol. Then they’d have the nerve to schedule us 8am and because we “got off at 11:30” they could have us come in. I waited as long as possible, until my injuries made it impossible to do anything because of the pain. My dcp definitely killed a lot of the magic I had for Disney.
This happened to a student of mine in 2015. She was studying Physical Therapy. She was told she would be working first aid. When she got there they put her in maid services. They gave her a hard time. She ended up leaving.
When I was full time at one of the hotels in 2016, an entire group of CPs that had been fully trained were recast in food and beverage roles due to need/demand. So there's no blaming the pandemic. This has happened in the past. The day everyone found out, many of the CPs were literally crying backstage.
what were their original roles ? i did my program in 2018 and it was miserable lol like all the program is , is to fill the hours that full time and part time dont wanna work i had 8 hour midnight closing shifts 6 days a week for 4 months and my roommate sucked it was miserable i did not know that was what i signed up for
meg im so so proud of you for how you fought & stayed true to yourself and stood up & used your voice. not many people will know how gutsy and brave you are but i am proud to have you as my friend. here’s to an incredible rest of 2022 for you, i know you’ve got this! 💜
Former CM here. Left in 2010. The tailspin started around 2000 from my experience. That's when I started noticing the CP cast members seemed to not be able to change roles very easily. Sad to see it hasn’t changed. CMs make the experience for the guests. The good ones have very little incentive to stay. It makes me sad. The problem seems to very often revolve around passionate CMs placed in a bad role for them with no way out. They lose a lot of talent by outsourcing placement vs working with department leads to know people's strengths and weaknesses. You end up feeling like you're just a name on a spreadsheet along with 60 thousand other names.
Disney is a full on mess since this Bob took over. We sold our DVC membership (in ROFR right now) and even though we still have our AP’s till August we are no longer going. The place turned into a joke.
I'm sorry. I've lived in central Florida for 35 years now and I feel so bad when people have dreams of working at Disney and then they fight to get there and realize what it's really like, it crushes them and breaks my heart. Sometimes our dreams are better left as dreams. I hope you like it here and I'm glad you found something you really enjoy. I'm subscribing now lol this is the first video of yours that I've seen
Omg Megan! That happened to me! I applied for transportation and they put me as a house person at SS. I totally feel you! I’m so happy you shared how hard this job role is and not good pay. It was so hard. Terrible job. I tell everyone that everyday. At my job
Also that job role that they put you in wasn’t even an accommodation. They created that role and started moving it to other resorts because the house person job role was just so much work. But I’m so sorry that happened to you.
Tell me about it! Disneyland had me on for 7 days with no time off…they could care less though. Oh well. I called out twice so now I have four days off. Joke is on them because I could care less about money. Haha! Once you’re older you’ll realize that respect and happiness are more important then anything not money.
I worked as a cast member from 2006-2012. I ended up quitting my Disney job because of what I experienced while I worked there. I do not blame you for leaving.
I literally cannot believe the amount of "i quit the disney college program" videos that have been made very recently and are now popping up on my feed. That means that something is not right with the way they are running this program.
I'm a long time Cast Member (10 years) and I don't blame you for leaving. Current WDW is such a different place than when I started. I'm happy you've found a better situation.
I’m thinking about quitting my job at Disneyland after being there for about 3 weeks I’m over it. Either I’m a workaholic working 7 days with no time off or I’m just not good enough at all but am working my butt off. I’m over it.
I’ve sadly heard many stories like this from long time cast members. It’s sad the company has gotten away from the strong work environment they once had.
@@annmarie6870 I feel you. I felt like I could never do anything right I was constantly getting talked to for things other people did. There was no win-win. I felt I was in a lose-lose situation. I am very grateful for my experience and for what I learned. I am even more grateful for the job I have now.
I was a housekeeper/houseperson on my program as well at DAKl and I can relate to a lot of what you said I’m so sad that the program wasn’t what I expected at all I once worked for 17 days in a row it was so bad I got hurt a lot too but the leaders didn’t care at all
Hello! I started my college program at the same time as you did and I wasn’t happy at all with what they chose for me. I was super excited to start my journey with Disney and even after I found out my role I was willing to give it my best. I worked in attractions and after training I was still not 100% with working the main console and it scared me so much having to control the ride without the right amount of time needed for me to know what I was doing. I got to a point where I got an anxiety attack because the ride broke down while I was main console and I had no idea what I needed to do to stop and power up the ride and then having to evacuate everyone. This happened on my third week and I told them I didn’t want to continue working console but I had to since we all had work in rotation so I ended up having to leave. It’s scary to have other peoples life in your hands while you don’t know what you’re doing.
Yeah, it’s scary. Sorry for what you had to go thru. It’s a shame, because it all could have been remedied by training you more and having you shadow someone for at least a couple weeks so you can be strong at your position. Disney dropped the ball by putting you in that position. Hope you are doing well now.
Totally understand - that’s a lot of pressure. However, you had a chance to learn it as quickly as possible. I’m sure there were other cast members that would’ve been willing to give you a quick overview. I’ve noticed a trend with the younger college students - if they’re asked to do something new, they don’t have the skills to quickly adjust and figure it out. Instead an anxiety attack happens and the opportunity is ruined. Again, I don’t wish an anxiety attack on anyone but something isn’t right with how our younger generations are reacting to being asked to do something new. Take notes, remain focused and get the job done. You’ll feel like a million bucks once you realize it wasn’t as hard as you thought it would be.
I totally understand. Disney put me in a an attraction position that I was totally uncomfortable with. But I tried to work through my fears and doubts. In the end, I ended up getting badly injured because my trainer was rushing me so much. I now have a permanent knee injury. Don’t ever let someone force you to do something you are not fully prepared for. I am glad you stood your ground, even if it meant leaving the program.
So very sorry to hear about your DCP experience. I'm dating myself, but my Husband and I were CP's back in Fall 2001 and both were in attractions (I worked at Alien Encounter way back when and Astro Orbiter) and my Husband was a Safari driver....hope Disney can get back to prioritizing CP's preferences and skill sets asap. I pray this next chapter is blessed in every way and so very happy to hear you are happy and doing what you enjoy! You are such a bright light and bring such joy to others through your videos. Life is short, do what makes you happy!!!! Thank you for sharing love and positivity!!
I was in absolute shock! I love your Disney content and so sad to hear about your months of emotional turmoil, and with a company you absolutely love. Your outlook is so amazing and love that you have such great parents! Can’t wait to see what you will be doing next! Cheering you on from Texas!
Wow, I am so sorry you had to go through all this! That’s really disappointing to hear how it was handled on their end. Happy you found your path. Best of luck to you on your next chapter!! 😀
Hi, you made the right decision in my eyes, I know of 2 other castembers that quit to vlog full time. Oh I know about roommate dramas, boy do I! And your key word BLESSED is oh so right on. You are blessed and you gave great parents. I could tell in the videos that something wasn't right, but not my place to pry. You are doing the right thing and you will be happier. I see it already. God bless you Meg, and your family! Sorry this is so long.
What a shame... I was in the WDWCP a while back and it was the time of my life. I am a 1991 alumni (no judging please) and I still keep in touch with all my friends and roommates. I stayed at Vista Way and could not imagine a better experience. I guess things have changed - especially with COVID. I hope the future will change for new people joining the program.
I am a Vista Way alumni fall of 99-00! I wish it was the time of my life.... While I had some great memories, I disliked most. I enjoy looking at the comments of others who lived in Vista Lay..(was it called that while you lived there as well)?
My daughter also came on January 18th and was placed at the front desk at AllStars Music and had to self term after a few weeks. The whole experience was very fun for her at first but quickly soured.
Thank you so much for this honest video! I start DCP on 7/18 and have been debating whether or not to file for medical accommodation or just hope for the best but after hearing your story I’m going to work on filing that paperwork this week. I’m sorry that you had such a terrible experience but I’m looking forward to seeing more of your journey moving forward. Now I’m just hoping for the best on my DCP makes me a little nervous now after hearing everything you went through.
Even with all that happened I have no regrets with doing the program because it pushed me to move here. The thing I’ve always wanted to do. And also know that everyone’s story is different. I have lots of friends that love their jobs in the program. Just know that you are always in control and can move on if you are unhappy. You will be fine and either way can make great memories from the experience. 😊 Keep me posted on how your program when you find out more
@@MagicalMeg thank you so much for this! I’m looking forward to starting and I’m gonna make the best out of whatever happens. I actually live only 2 hours away from Orlando but I’m looking to make friends! Hope all is well and maybe one day we can do a park day.
Nothing you’ve said surprises me. It’s the kind of mishandling that Disney continues to do these days. I used to enjoy going to WDW for decades but haven’t been in years. Thanks for sharing your story. They just wanted to use you for cheap labor.
Yep that’s how it is and it’s sad. Now I have to go to my union to tell them that I’m no longer working more then 40hrs a week. Find someone else to do your labor for you I’m sure you’ll find someone lol but I’m not that someone and know my worth. Managements whole thing is “we want you to get your 40hrs.” Whatever that means. Anyways, I’m a house person also so interesting that this video popped up and I’m in California. I’m not in the college program though
Unfortunately that does seem to be what Disney’s doing with the program. I still have a lot of friends in the program that are getting worked overtime and barley get any time off. Meanwhile part time and full time employees don’t get the hours they need because disney won’t schedule them as much when they can pay college program less
@@MagicalMeg I am shocked you didn't know all this going in. I have known it for decades. It doesn't take much digging to figure out the CP is super cheap labor, and it isn't new, it's pretty much always been that way.
So sorry DCP didn't work out but it sounds like everything is working out exactly as it was meant to. Appreciate your positivity and hopefully 2022 will close out as the best year yet. Thank you for your great content!
You're very blessed to have an amazing family! You did the right thing. Thank you so much for this particular video it helps me put in perspective of what how different the DCP was when I was an intern. Best of luck to you to your new job meg!
I was a house person as well on my program back in 2019, DAKL had the best CP house person program. We had a machine that helps pull those heavy metros, sad that the resort you were at didn’t have one. 10/10 a safety issue & should have been taken more seriously. I am so frustrated for you, your medical leave shouldn’t have been so long there are plenty of roles available that don’t even include heavy lifting. I am so sorry that happened… the program has changed significantly since Covid. You are an amazing person and I could see you thriving in a different role for sure. I can’t wait to see where your future is going to take you ❤️
I'm sorry the DCP didn't work out. Disappointed with how Disney values their cast members with not even getting back to you in a reasonable time, but good thing you got out of a bad situation. Thanks for your honest opinions and giving your insights. This is just a stepping stone to something better.
Thank you so much. It was a disappointment situation with how things are currently being handled. I am glad I can be open and honest in the videos now and hopefully one day things may change for cast members.
Dreams can change and things happen for a reason meaning the cast member life wasn't meant to be your dream but did set you in the right direction for what is to be your dream. Good Luck on your new job and position. I think you handled this like a true champ and will be great at whatever you decide to do .
I did my college program at Port Orleans Riverside front desk plantation owner costume. I couldn’t imagine doing house person with the mansions access being outside in the heat… also I left early as well because my grandmother had a stroke and 9-11 happened…
Meg!! You are seriously such an incredible young woman! I’m so sorry this didn’t work out the way you dreamed it would. But let me tell you, even during your difficult days you truly brought joy to others! We are just so impressed by you. You are a natural vlogger, because you are so sincere and down to earth. I love how you don’t try to disguise your excitement about even the little things (like Disney ducks!). As a mom of a 25 year old, I love how close you are to your parents and that you truly treasure your time with them. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for you! We will keep on supporting your channel and can’t wait to see more!!! 🙏💛
I’m so sorry things went as they did for you Meg. You’re such a sweet and beautiful person, who deserves to be completely happy. For someone so teeny tiny….you have “Goliath” sized “mind strength”….. you have come out of multiple dramatic and challenging situations, and have managed to become stronger in your faith and happier as a person 😃 I’m so thrilled to follow you, and your Orlando adventures xo 😊 Theresa
Honestly baffles me at how badly this was handled for you! I’m so happy you were able to see the good things in your experience. I am wishing you all the best in your new venture xx
I got y'all beat. I was in the third Magic Kingdome College Program (MKCP) in the Fall of 1982. Picture eight college students sharing a double-wide trailer --- 4 to a bathroom. We were living at Snow White Trailer Park off Highway 192 in Kissimmee on Seven Dwarf Lane. Last time I checked, the sign was still there. We were the class that opened EPCOT Center. But I believe there were only about 400 of us.
Oh Meg I am so sorry to hear you went through all of that, wow, but so glad you are moving on from Disney and will still be vloging there good for you! Looking forward to seeing more of your vlogs👍
Sorry for your horrible experience. Glad you made the best of the situation. I’m always nice to the cast members because I can only imagine the amount of stories like this out there.
Meg, bless you for your professionalism in waiting to tell this story at the right time. Even telling your story you are diplomatic and gracious toward Disney and your former room mate. Your parents must be incredibly proud of you. Getting to our "dream" is a process and the journey teaches us along the way. You show integrity, strength, and wisdom. Keep up the good work. You will go far.
Hi Meg, I’m sorry the DCP didn’t work out. Please know that your fans, especially myself, still appreciate the wonderful person you are. My background is healthcare and I do transportation and logistics on the side. I often thought that my dream job was to be a bus driver for Disney and living in central Florida was part of the dream. After watching your video, I realized that I can stick with healthcare and be just as happy doing rideshare in central Florida. With that said, I am happy to hear that the Disney vlogs will continue and I am very excited to hear you will be vlogging Orlando life as well. Until next time, keep smiling and keep vloging. Your fan, Brian AKA Chairman of the Cheap Seats
Meg, best of luck in your new job. You will be fine. You're a strong , young woman and you have wonderful parents to see your back. They love you and they will be there for you. Thank God that you are blessed. Much happiness in your future endeavors. You're beautiful and smart and you'll go far. Everything in life is an experience to learn from. You get stronger from the downfalls, but get up and go on to become what God has in store for you. You will be fine. Lots of good luck. Blessings, love , Claudia. 💕
Megan, you handled your situation with class and shows how strong a person you are to have gone through this whole ordeal. I’m so glad you have a new job with something you love to do now. You have always wanted to live close to Disney, and now you do. You deserve to be happy. Sending hugs your way. ❤️
Shelley thank you so much! I am very blessed with your friendship! Thank you for always supporting me and being there through every step of this journey. Looking forward to seeing you soon! 💖
Meg! It sounds like your difficult situation turned out to be a true blessing in disguise!! Looking forward to new Vlogs & hearing how much you like your new job !! I am the parent of a cast member who is your age and I’m sure I understand what you and your parents were feeling as you were going through all of this- it’s so hard when you’re so far away from your child and can’t help as much as you’d like. However, your new roommates sound great 😉
I was a housekeeper at animal kingdom lodge in January and I quit one day because I couldn’t do it anymore. It was the most stressful job I’ve ever had. I am happy you got out when you did.
Wow!! I just watched your video and it kept me on the edge of my chair. Sorry that you had to go through all the drama, but it sounds like you are in much better place. I follow a lot of vloggers in a variety of interests but you are my favorite. And your mom and dad are great to watch and so wonderful and supportive. God bless you and your family.
It's funny to me when you talk about your houseperson role because when I was in Disney mid-February staying at Riverside, I experienced a lot of things that were very un-Disney. I use a scooter due to a knee dislocation, and I often had to run over bags of trash and linens that were just strewn across the paths that were often there for many hours and even once overnight due to not being picked up. It's no shock that they needed that role filled. I'm sorry to hear that your start to being a Floridian didn't work out the way you wanted, but I'm so excited to hear about this new job and hope that everything goes more smoothly going forward!
I had a similar situation when I worked at Chick-fil-a. I had scoliosis surgery back when I was 14, so I understand back injuries/safety. They had me lifting 5 gallons of tea several times a day during a 10 hr shift and pouring 3 gallons of coffee and lemonade. I can carry it. However, it was damaging my shoulder. They would try to get me to lift the 5 gallons of tea over my head and pour it into the dispenser. I physically couldn't do it. I was shaking the entire time. I told them I couldn't do it. They would tell me to put the weight on my shoulder so I could pour it. Fast forward a couple weeks, and I could barely move my shoulder. I wanted to scream in pain whenever I had to reach for something from the shelf. No one would listen to me when I said I needed to switch things up so it would freeze. One day, I couldn't take it anymore and I quit. I've never been in more pain. I had to file for worker's compensation for physical therapy. There were other things that happened too, but the managers didn't care. I'm still working on healing it a year later. You did the right thing! It's hard to stand up for yourself, but it's so worth it when you do.
I also dealt with accommodations issues during my program. It’s ridiculous to hear so many other peoples stories with a similar treatment from Disney. They need to do better it’s ridiculous and infuriating.
I’m going to watch this later, but I wanted to let you know I’m here for you if you ever need to talk! I self-termed as well (got a full-time job and had to be there in March), but it was really difficult and painful. The Program is difficult!
Meg….My wife and I love your channel and we are so sorry that your experience was not at all what you had dreamed it would be. We are happy that you have found something that makes you happy! We have been going to Disney for the past 25 years and we are very disappointed in the direction that things are going right now. We looked forward to following you in this new season of life. Thank you for all of your vlogs and your infectious enthusiasm and love for the parks!
Love hearing about your passion for YT and creating content. I share that passion and am so lucky to live right next to magic kingdom, see you in the parks!
Hey Meg! I completely understand about Disney. I was a WDWCP in 2003…back in the pleasure island days. Working in food service stank, but I wanted to be a part of the magic. Though by working and partying I also self terminated my program because I caught mono. Almost 20 years later, later this year, I have no regrets. It will be an experience I’ll always remember for life. ~ Have a magical day!
Just looking at their regular job postings and came across the Entertainment Technician job, which, only in PART, entails: "Load and fire pyrotechnics for our nighttime spectaculars". Starting pay? $18/hr. WHAT?! I'm in New England so this is insanely low, but this sounds crazy low even for FL, esp Orlando.
It seems like Disney made the call to view DCP as just cheap labor with the assumption that enough young people with stars in their eyes would keep applying to make up for any additional turnover they cause. Unfortunately for them in the current job market there are plenty of other options so if they keep the pay low and don't provide the 'magic' (e.g. actual interesting career training etc) people like you will justifiably leave! It especially seems like medical accommodations are not being handled well at all, based on other peoples' stories as well. Best of luck to you!
Disney has always viewed the DCP that way :/ CPs aren't union, I don't even think they have to pay overtime because it's an "internship" (at least they didn't when I did the program) and they don't have to pay benefits even though you're working way over 40 hrs/week usually. You're exactly right though, now there's so much more opportunity out there, even in the parks otherwise outside of the CP. No reason to put up with any cp BS when you can easily find something else down there.
you are on a better path now Meg, and after all the Disney College Program was just like a bit of chewing gum...eventually it lost its flavour..so glad you are in a better situation..you are a real Floridian now..working and living there..independently of Disney..you can now enjoy " Walt's Dream"... and you can walk free of the anxiety you were previously under. Enjoy the future. Thank you for being so open with us. I am relieved..i felt something was making you tense the last few times when you mentioned that you might be getting a different position within your work setting. God bless you Meg..thank goodness your mum and dad are wholesome people who truly support you too.
You handled this so well 👏 Im sorry you dealt with these things but like you said what doesnt kill us makes us stronger! Every fairytale has its rocky moments but you are on the way to happiness!!
Hi Meg, I was in the Disney College Program at the same time as you (maybe we ran into each other). I was a January 10th arrival and I was already graduated from college and I worked elsewhere for a little over a year. I chose to do the DCP because I heard Disney was incredibly organized and that they would work you hard but you would learn a lot. Of course, that wasn't reality. You described the flaws of Disney perfectly. How could they possibly know anyone's strengths and weaknesses if they don't actually speak with anyone in advance? I was Recreation H/H in the Beam Region (Contemporary, Grand, Poly) and like you, I had not the slightest clue as to what that was. It was basically all an invented job of nothing where you stand by the pool (not even as a lifeguard) and stand by the boat rentals where almost no one ever came. Nothing really to do. The training was disorganized, the company was disorganized, and I didn't even get all that many hours. I asked to but was denied from switching my role, and I couldn't even ask for a medical accommodation because I can physically do the job of standing around doing nothing. I am sorry to hear about your roommate situation, but living at Flamingo Crossings is obnoxious and while the buildings are nice, I would not recommended it at all. Additionally, they didn't even have the course offerings they used to have, the new ones were few and far between and they filled up fast. I tried at every step to work with them to make it better, but after six weeks, I called it quits and self termed. I still might come back and visit Disney as a guest, but it seems like they can't get out of their own way in making it a positive experience for their cast members. Maybe I would have liked the DCP of before Covid, but Covid is a lame excuse for making something worse. They had two years to prepare and make the program even better! I hope you are enjoying your new life and job in Orlando though.
I think it is def the right decision that you quit the role, I am also very petite, and could def not do the requirements of that position. I am sure you will do great things and this will be a learning experience that will point you in the right direction!
Good luck in your future endeavors. I only worked at the Disney store for 7 months. It was a dream come true but my next step led to the rest of my life.
Thank you for sharing your story! This was really encouraging as a reminder that things work out for good and sometimes the thing we thing is the best for us may not be but there’s something even better on the other side! So glad this has turned into a blessing for your family! I’ve loved your vlogs and it has brought so much joy and fun so excited to see the future!
It is so true. Things definitely happen for a reason. I couldn’t realize it in the middle of all the stress but truly this was such a blessing in disguise as I now love my new job and opportunities so much. Everything works out and happens for a reason. Thank you so much for your support
Those room checks are awful! As a female that travels there solo I lock my door and don’t allow someone in when I’m in the room. Setting everyone (including the cast members) up for bad situations
Ugh, so sorry to hear about all the behind the scenes drama that you have been going through over that last several weeks. You have handled yourself with upmost class and dignity...your parents I'm sure they are very proud of you:) Hopefully my family and I will be seeing you in the parks this fall as we too will be heading to Central FL.
Wow….. This is so sad. We did the CP in 2007 and it was really the time of our lives. I met my wife there and yes it was a lot of hours at work but we worked in the parks and it was really a great experience. So disappointing how bad the experience has become now. Thanks for the video
My sister's friend was in the DCP in the early 2000s. She wanted to be a princess but they put her in the gift shop. They really don't value their employees
Gift shop is still customer-related but I understand that it may be more stressful to deal with customer requests for some people rather than having to stay in character and getting to walk around the park with the character guides (it requires a lot of training to be Princess/Prince - role 'perfect'). I also understand why they would think a First Aider would makea great as a maid, it is just practical to have someone who can actually save lives, just eventually, and they think just because it is peoople-focused, things will be close enough to the dream job.
Hi Meg, Sorry to hear about your experience at Disney. Congrats on your new journey and endeavors... I'm excited for you and look forward to you sharing those experiences. All the best! 🌺
Meg, onwards and upwards. Your future is bright and I will continue to enjoy watching your vlogs. Thank you for your update and yes, I do think that you sharing your experience might help someone else. Sending you love and yes, you seem at peace now. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
I'm so sorry that you did not have a better experience. I envisioned you being a front row worker( someone who talks and converses with guests)for sure! I had a very similar experience with going off to school and having a roommate that did not work out at all and actually having to quit something big. We definitely learn a lot from the things that don't go the way we planned. You have a beautiful positive energy and I am glad that none of this sucks that light out of you. Thank you for being real and telling us what happened while still remaining classy! Good job lady! I am excited to see what your next Endeavor will be!
I am an original Pizza Planet cast member. I worked with the company 20 years. I have met hundreds of amazing CP's and ICP's. The company has really changed. When I was still there when a CP had a medical condition they were immediately transferred to a new role in the park and never lost a dime.
Hi Meg, I can totally get your reasons for leaving the DCP. My wife has severe Scoliosis so I totally get the back issue. In addition, she is 4 ft 11 and the height issue can be challenging. It is too bad that companies cannot see that medical conditions can complicate our jobs. Myself I have 50 lbs weight limit I am called on to move stuff that I am not supposed to. Disney should have placed you in guest relations for your personality would have complimented that role. As they say when one door closes another door opens. Good luck and God bless.
So sorry this happened to you! I also had a negative experience as a CM. Disney only cares for themself ! They treat CMs poorly especially College Program members !!!! Happy you are doing well now!
I’m so glad everything is looking up for you, plus you still get to go to Disney as much as you want. Best wishes with your new job, and to your parents and their move down.
I had worked for Disney from 2014-2020 full time at a resort in food and beverage. I tried a bunch of times to transfer but was always forgot about. That’s their hr for u. When they shut down for the Rona in march 2020 and stopped the college program that February, they did them kids real dirty. They told them to they had to be out with less than 3 days notice. No way for them to plan to get home whatsoever. Then Disney had the audacity to fire me in August 2020 because someone made up some story and lied, which I said I didn’t do, which Disney decided to believe them and fire me. I will definitely never support such a horrible company anymore. Hope everyone else opens their eyes and sees Disney is horrible. They’ll never get another dollar out of me ever
Hi Meg Just wanted to say how sorry I was for you that you had such an bad experience in the DCP . ,but glad that things are looking up for you and look forward to seeing your many more adventures in Florida .
I quit last July...started on the DCP and got full time...I miss it but I never want to work for Parks and resorts ever again...the pay doesn't match the workload. (I did housekeeping at Pop for my first DCP and then at DAKL for my summer alumni) Not easy.
Wow - how the times have changed. I was on the College Program years ago and while some people had less than thrilling jobs, no one was doing things like entering guest's hotel rooms alone. I would be nervous about that & I'm a male.
I understand your concern about doing your "Security Checks". I work security for a major hotel in Las Vegas. I absolutely love what I do an have been doing security for years. Ever since the October 1 2017 shooting, most Vegas hotels have different protocols now. The hotel I work for, housekeeping is given protocols to check and see which hotel rooms have turned down service. If after three days of turn downs, they write the hotel room numbers down, then they email security. We'll try to make contact and conduct them as welfare checks. Anyone we've made contact with usually have no issues with us contacting them. And yes, we have to enter the rooms to make sure either the guest is not in the room, and then check for safety. Ultimately, those guests are staying in rented rooms and Disney has the right to enter them because the guests do not own them. They are just renting for a week or so. If anyone comes to the resorts with nefarious intentions, it's better you and security catch it first before the worst could happen. Disney doesn't need or want the PR nightmare. It will kill revenue until the dust settles. Trust me when I tell you it took Mandalay Bay over a year to recover from the financial lost they were hit with after the shooting. But I get what you're saying. If you're not comfortable entering an occupied room, you shouldn't be made to do so. Security should be the ones conducting them, not housekeeping, and they should just tell the guests they are conducting welfare checks. They wouldn't exactly lying about it. Good luck with your next endeavor. You seem like a great person and you will be great regardless! Kind regards to you!
I'm sorry things didn't work out with the DCP but it sounds like there are better times ahead. Hopefully you will be able to look back and be proud of what you achieved. Wishing you all the best with your next set of goals.
I find it interesting that, in my recent stay at Port Orleans, they apparently had you or another person come into our room for a Security Check, but in the four days we were there not once did housekeeping come. Would have been nice if the security person had mentioned the overflowing trash can and dirty sheets & towels. I understand they no longer come every day, but not once in four days? Regardless, sounds like you absolutely made the right decision.
You’ll see as you get older, dreams will change as you grow and learn! Always look forward and focus on your future, working to adapt your dreams to your current situation. It sounds like Disney really dropped the ball in placing a valuable cast member into a more appropriate role. Good luck to you!
That’s insane that they made you pay for rent out of pocket when you weren’t working. On my DCP in 2017 one of my roommates also had to wait for another role because of a health issue and they just didn’t charge her rent while she wasn’t working. I’m so sorry you had to deal with this, I know how obnoxious that process is. So happy things are getting better! ✨
I am another January 18th arrival and I have been suspended from my location for 2 weeks and tomorrow it is decided if I stay or go. Watching this video has helped me decide that quitting is sometimes best thank you so much you are an inspiration.
Words can describe how sorry I am for what's happened to you. I myself went through a similar situation as well. I was originally going for occupational therapy assistant when I first started college but the program was even harder than the job itself and I ended flunking out after four years with no backup plan in sight. Thankfully I went in the next day looking for an alternative and found one as a sterile processing technician which is what I've been doing ever sense. I think this along with what's happening with you are perfect examples that life is hard and unexpected but no matter what happens, you'll get through it and it may all be for the best afterwards. Good luck with whatever happens next.
I think they want their company to go downhill. just because they can.
It is so sad. They were such an icon.
MKCP was a blast in the mid 80’s. Snow White Village! Apologies to the KOA campers.😆
Gosh I’ve always wondered what the glory of Disney was like in the 80s 90s; it was so magical in the early 2000s before it started going downhill, I’m so sad I can’t experience that in my career
I felt sickened learning that they don't feed their employees for free and alot of people are struggling
And you cannot even get free food. It’s very unfair.
Sadly Disney has gone downhill since the new CEO has taken over.
It's been longer than that, but has certainly accelerated 😅
Honestly Disney has always been over hyped. The whole franchise is cool & all but its time has come & gone imo.
Since Bob Iger took over. Susan Arnold just is not enforcing Disney rules! Allowing BobC and the board to go for the groomer Bill isn't helping much.
@@timkunk3498 Rubbish.
They raised CM wages to minimum $15 per hour over the past few years.
The company still is great!
It seems we are all missing Michael Eisner-era Disney.
@Nt Mn Under Eisner they were still abusive. They have bad management.
I worked in hospital and hotel housekeeping for years as I went to college. I hurt my body by lifting too much weight. I’m also short. You made the right choice leaving as it can lead to more health conditions. You have a great talent to do something much more fulfilling. So happy you saw that in yourself now.
I am sorry you had a bad experience in a similar job. Thank you so much for your support. I appreciate that
@@bassmaster4406 I was QSFB at Casey’s Corner. 10-12 hour shifts 6 days a week ten years ago! Sad to hear it’s no different now 😔
@@toritutone the wdw company depends on cheap labor, that concept has always been since biblical times
Me too. I heard from my students good things about the college program. But Meg, with all her enthusiasm, will land on her feet.
@@PlayAndRage ughhhhhhh that sounds so familiar!! cp ruins a lot of magic for sure!
How would you feel if they shattered your dreams like that?
what were their original roles ? i did my program in 2018 and it was miserable lol like all the program is , is to fill the hours that full time and part time dont wanna work i had 8 hour midnight closing shifts 6 days a week for 4 months and my roommate sucked it was miserable i did not know that was what i signed up for
@@1TSS0FLVFFY their original role was what Disney called " Front Desk Cashier" commonly known as a front desk agent.
meg im so so proud of you for how you fought & stayed true to yourself and stood up & used your voice. not many people will know how gutsy and brave you are but i am proud to have you as my friend. here’s to an incredible rest of 2022 for you, i know you’ve got this! 💜
Claire that means the world. Thank you for supporting me with every part of this journey. I appreciate you my friend!
Facts
it wad a mess before this ceo lol
It’s a crap place now even as an AP it’s not the same
I’m sorry you had a bad experience. Yes I have so much respect for everyone in that role. It is very hard work
I worked as a cast member from 2006-2012.
I am even more grateful for the job I have now.
. I
As a customer of WDW since the park opened, I understand the customer experience has drastically changed I won't be back
I was a housekeeper/houseperson on my program as well at DAKl and I can relate to a lot of what you said I’m so sad that the program wasn’t what I expected at all I once worked for 17 days in a row it was so bad I got hurt a lot too but the leaders didn’t care at all
I experienced that with my managers in summer 2000.
Fellow former Attractions CM, and I *very* much relate to this! I worked through it, but main console was always nerve-wracking for me.
Oh my gosh. That’s just sad. Wonder if that’s why rides have broken down several times. 🤦♀️
When one door closes, another one opens. You handled your situation with class. Love your vlogs. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for saying that! I appreciate it. Yes I absolutely believe things happen for a reason
Thank you so much Tanya! I appreciate your support!
Wow, I am so sorry you had to go through all this! That’s really disappointing to hear how it was handled on their end. Happy you found your path. Best of luck to you on your next chapter!! 😀
Thank you so much! I am excited for the future
It's so tragic that the Magic is gone!!! Disney back in 2006 was probably the last year of Magical experiences there!

I just quit after 10 years. I was done being poorly treated by the company, guests, and management.
Wow Marcia thank you so much for your kind words. I truly appreciate that. Thank you for your support
I wanted to say I genuinely admire your strength and courage for doing what you did for your best interest and not bashing the company
Getting a Disney add while watching this is hilarious!!
Hi Meg,
I’m sorry the DCP didn’t work out.
Your fan,
Brian AKA Chairman of the Cheap Seats
However, your new roommates sound great 😉
Thank you! Yes it truly was a blessing in disguise! I love my new job and am happy I get to enjoy more of life in Orlando!
I did the college program in 1991 and none of this was a thing back then. Wow.....it has really gone downhill.
Congratulations on your pivot! Best wishes as you continue your path as a Floridian.
Thank you so much Emily! Yes it’s unfortunate how certain things are being handled at Disney right now. I’m so glad you also found a new opportunity 💖
No reason to put up with any cp BS when you can easily find something else down there.
im proud of you! Sometimes Disney can be toxic, as a cast member, Atleast thats my experience as well.
you are on a better path now Meg, and after all the Disney College Program was just like a bit of chewing gum...eventually it lost its flavour..so glad you are in a better situation..you are a real Floridian now..working and living there..independently of Disney..you can now enjoy " Walt's Dream"... and you can walk free of the anxiety you were previously under.
Thank you for saying that. Yes it’s so true, life isn’t always perfect but these situations make us stronger!
Class act Meg. Good luck in your new adventure.
I appreciate that Taylor, thank you so much! And yes! Definitely come say hi if you see me in the parks!
I am so glad you got out of this hard situation stronger! I am keeping you in my prayers Megan 💜
Thank you so much! I appreciate your prayers. I am excited for the future and loving my new job! 💖
Meg you do what is best for you. I will still be watching.
Thank you so much! God bless
Congratulations, totally understand. , currently a CM at EPCOT. Hope to see you around.
There's nothing wrong with leaving a bad job. I did it and it was the best thing ever. Things will work out for you, with the great attitude you have!
Thank you! Walking away can be the best decision sometime. I love my new job
Hi Meg
Just wanted to say how sorry I was for you that you had such an bad experience in the DCP . ,but glad that things are looking up for you and look forward to seeing your many more adventures in Florida .
Everything happens for a reason and we wish you the best moving forward. ♥️
Bless you and your supportive family. Good luck in the future.
Meg! So sorry you had to go through all of that. Glad it’s all working out, and good luck with the news gig!
The company has lost Walt's original vision which is so sad; treat your Cast Members like crap and it shows.
