@@nicholasliebgott5807 of course But that song is trash And coming from a band like Behemoth its rare why they did a song like Bartazel, very boring and without talent. Get over it
Behemoth's lyrics are deeply steeped in history, religion, mythology, stuff like that. They're one of the few satanic metal bands that aren't just talking about satanic shit for the sake of being in-your-face obnoxious. There's lots of effort and time spent on research for their themes and concepts, and when you read through their lyrics I think that is pretty clear. As to what any of it means though - who the hell knows.
We two are asking for this song a few months now and our comments are almost always as some of the top comments in every video we ask for it. Will Alex listen to us some day XP ? I think that he just don't want to listen to some song with more then 7-8 minutes I don't now...But he could at least tell us that (if is the case) then we could stop asking haha
6:15 A Satanic baptism, that's what you're watching! Instead of pouring water on the child's head, in the satanic baptism you rub earth on the child's feet, to reaffirm his connection with the material world, and as a statement that the child is the master of all land he steps on. This specific part of the video is a clear reference to the satanic baptism.
Gotta get you to check out ELUVEITIE so you can be introduced into another type of metal. Go with Inis Mona (a classic song) or Rebirth (a more recent song)
Just finished watching, and I'm not 100% certain on the meaning or intent of the song, but I know the lead singer and frontman of the band, Nergal, is a Satanist (I don't believe he's a theistic Satanist [i.e., someone who believes in an actual Satan], but more so an atheistic Satanist, someone who believes Satan stands as a symbol for human traits, such as freedom, self-honesty, and the human spirit-he just depicts visceral imagery of theistic Satanism in his music videos). But anyway, just a few little tidbits of knowledge that I was able to pick up: The dude chained to the rock, getting his guts eaten by a crow, is supposed to be Prometheus, a Titan in Greek mythology who defied the gods, stole fire from them, and gave the fire to humanity-something that enabled the human race to progress forward and help build a better civilization. He was, in turn, punished by the gods, bound to a rock by Zeus, where Prometheus was to remain for the rest of his life, to have his liver eaten by an eagle. Overnight, his liver would grow back and be eaten again, for all eternity. One of those pieces of symbolism that depicts the cruelness of the gods and how they want humanity to simply obey and be at a standstill. The other bit I wanted to give some insight to was the ending with the child. I'm not sure of the exact meaning, but I read around that it was depicting a ritual of converting to something (Satanism? I don't know). But the spitting of white liquid from the kid's mouth was supposed to represent them expelling the darkness or evil from their bodies-in a way, purifying them as a person. But yeah, dude, dope reaction, and I'm glad you finally got around to listening to this song, even if it wasn't your favorite. Nergal is HYPER into biblical studies and is well-versed in a massive amount of mythology and theology, so you can always try to pull meanings and symbolism from not only his lyrics but the band's imagery. I hope to see you gather the strength to listen to another Behemoth song sometime, lol, I know they're definitely in the more extreme genre of metal and harder to get into than other bands. Peace, man.
If you're diving into Black Metal, try to do it in chronologie. The Genre evolved quite a bit. Listen to more Basic Stuff like: Mayhem - Freezing Moon Burzum - Dunkelheit Hellhammer - Maniac Bathory - Necromansy Venom - Witching Hour Darkthrone - A Blaze in the northern Sky Satyricon - Mother North Emperor - I am the Black Wizards Maybe even some New Stuff, thats faithful to the Basics. MGLA - Exercices in Futility Inquisition - Those of thw Night
A very good idea but still wouldn't help him understand Behemoth much better. Great bands! If I may add some Southern European Black Metal: Moonspell - Night Eternal Rotting Christ - Exiled Archaengels and Varathron - Crowsreign
First its a love song. Second, it's a prayer, or rather two prayers. The first half is the singer singing praise to the great twister of what's real, the dark Lord himself. The second half (the spoken bits) is lifted from an occult/thelemic invocation of Satan. It's called o father o Satan o sun, did you really expect anything else? Off an album called the satanist. As I understand it the vocalist nergal is an atheist, but sees satanism as worshipping the power of the individual as the highest most elevated glory. He's a bit of a humanist as well. And they're from Poland, a deeply Catholic country so this is his rejection of a belief system he feels lessens the individual. The guitarist (bassist?) as I understand it is a 'proper' satanist/occultist and puts the thelemic/occult literature stuff in as his contribution. I've seen interpretations of the video as being a pagan cleansing of the kid, removing the Christianity from him. Christianity's conquest of Europe was exactly that: a conquest. There's a lake in Finland called something like 'the lake of tears' where in the middle ages you used to go and wash the Christianity off of you in secret and then conduct some of the Finnish pagan rituals. And so on. Watch 'blow your trumpets Gabriel' for European history inside 5 minutes. Also, the wtf moment will blow you away, unlike this one where it's just 'wtf?!?'
Behemoth is an acquired taste and I'd say a majority of their fan-base had some kind of christian/religious background. The first time I heard them, it was the song Conquer All and I was freaked out and hated the vocals. A few years later I gave them a try again and it was this album that turned me onto them making them my favorite metal band now. Their lyrics are super deep in the wealth of information revolving around the Bible, Alesteir Crowley and other religious/anti-religious material, hence the dark imagery. A lot of their stuff is disturbing and given that they're a Polish band where sex and glamour in their media are regarded as a better commodity than poetry is in their country, and seeing how religion is still a huge part in their government, it shouldn't surprise many that they create material like this. This song was probably a bit much for a newcomer to react to as their second song. I recommend either their newest album with God=Dog, or go back to Demigod. The entire Album of Demigod is good.
Same for me! I couldn't enjoy the vocals, but once I did I got hooked! And it was a little more Extreme than what I'm used to listen to, but now that's OK. I love the direction they're taking with these two releases! Some real Avant-Garde Black Metal! Can't wait to see where this goes! Bartzabel simply blew my mind!
I loved the old style they had as well. I was turned on to the by Slaying the Prophets ov Isa. The entire Apostasy album is pure gold in my opinion. I also loved Ezkaton.
Same here to an extent. I first heard of this band through a friend of mine who sent me the video for Slaves Shall Serve back in the MySpace days. I didn’t know what it was but the opening scared the living shit out of me. I avoided the band because I’ve never been into death metal or black metal or whatever sub genre it is. When The Satanist came out, I gave them a listen and I liked it. For me, I don’t like the lyrics of the band as far as the anti Christian subject matter but at the same time I appreciate the fact that they at least make the shit interesting. Musically, I’ve grown to like some of their stuff. Death metal has never been my type of metal but Behemoth has some good shit. It’s funny how I started out with stuff like Linkin Park and Korn and then went to Lamb of God and Metallica then onto August Burns Red and For Today then I started listening to some of the darker stuff like Black Sabbath and from their I started listening to Slayer and then I started listening to King Diamond and then Behemoth and I recently discovered a band called CandleMass. Funny how that works.
Yea, my first song was slaves shall serve (i think thats the name) and couldnt get behind it, then about a year ago i listened to the satanist and lived it
You've experienced true Heaviness. Now you're ready for heaviness with insane melody and complexity. Please do *Ghost of Perdition by Opeth* now, that song will blow your mind for sure.
"God=Dog" - check out this song, their new single from the upcoming album. I guess the video will shock you a little, but the song and the style of the band is well shown there. They changed their style a lot through years, and I guess the perfect album for the start is "Demigod".
I just came across your channel and you're hilarious! :D Loved those edits! I"m so glad that you're an open-minded listener just like me (I'm a Metalhead who's also into RAP and many other genres), and I really digged your reactions, could relate. So glad you're venturing into Metal and was able to enjoy this! Extreme Metal really takes some adquired taste. If you intend to watch more Behemoth videos be ready for loads of creepy and obscure things like this, that's how they like it. But there's a lot of meaning behind it, of course. Like many other people said, the lyrics mainly revolve around the work and philosophy of Aleister Crowley, Thelema. Also Satan as a symbol of enlightenment, inner knowledge and many other things. In Nergal's interview with The Guardian you can read something about what Satan means to him. And yes, this album is a different one! This song specially is slower and more atmospheric than most of their songs. Since The Satanist in 2014 and now again with "I Loved you at your darkest", they've been venturing new realms. They still play the good old Blackened Death Metal, but they're innovating and evolving in a very interesting way. I really admire that and I think that many times that is a testament of a musician's skill and authenticity. This song and Bartzabel are perfect examples of that! I hope you keep reacting to and enjoying more of their videos! And if you read all of this thanks a lot for your time!
Those harmonic backing vocals are what make the song for me. Well that and the absolutely filthy bass during the "breakdown" at 7:00 towards the end of the song.... it's so raunchy and twangy sounding
Your reaction is one that we metalheads generally like. Oftentimes the first listen of something that sort of throws me is a good sign that I will really love it later on. Behemoth is more of a cerebral band and makes you think of your own interpretations. Again I applaud you for your open mindedness and enjoy seeing a person fall in love with a music that I have loved all my life.
Welcome to the metal world dude. Good choices so far. Just a little tale for you. Last year my son and I went to see Hed PE at a local club. They kicked arse as you would expect from Hed PE. However that's not the tale. There were supposed to be 3 bands on the night. One of the bands pulled out at the last minute so the openers One For Sorrow got 40 mins instead of 25. I had no idea who these guys were, but, they fucking broke me and my son. Tight songs and an excellent stage presence. Sadly I was a tad wasted at the gig and forget the bands name. It took me a year to find out who they were, and 2 days after I finally found out they played a gig in London, this was last Friday by the way. When we arrived the singer and drummer were in the bar chillin'. Had to go and say hello cos reasons right. Joe the vocalist looked at me a bit weird, then, when i told him we had seen them the year before he remembered me, cos like I said they kicked arse and I lost me shit to them. anyways rambling, we spent about 30 mins chatting with them before they played their set. Afterwards in the bar the singer found me bought me a beer and we spent the next 4 hours with the band. Totally sweet guys all of them. Fine example of the metal community. Anyways if you are interested check them out. Annoyingly if you search for them on TH-cam their are about 8 pages of Steps videos. But keep scrolling. I recommend Into The Woods, Fools and Liars and also Bigot. an awesome anti racist anthem. So gonna stop now before your eyes start to bleed. Keep up the good work and hope you find many more dope ass tunes to get your metal on to. Thanks again for putting a smile on my face with your vids.
AW YEA welcome to Behemoth purgatory! Behemoth's lyrics are very Aleister Crowley inspired, this one included. Crowley built his philosophy on any pagan gods that he liked and had a way with words. I have not yet read enough Crowley to tell you what the part with the little boy meant, maybe someone else should help. The character with one eye makes me think of Odin. The man chained on the rocks with his guts out is probably Prometheus. The one with the wings - Icarus. But anyways. Come and watch their newest video Bartzabel. No harm is done to little boys there, and it's very melodic.
Pretty sure it has no Crowley's demagogy behind it, if i had to guess it's just a kid spitting holy water our as a form of resistance to kids being dragged into church at a very young age in most Catholic country and not being given a freedom to choose for themselves to which god if any they are going to believe or whatever

Clayton Kennedy What are you even talking about? Lol how is Ice Nine Kills bland? They have incredible clean vocals, amazing story based songs, and their lyric and music videos are next level.
Behemoth is definitely not the kind of band whose songs and videos are something one just gets from listening to it once/occasionally. The amount of symbolism and references to so many different cultures and their respective religions is so much, that listening to them is actually serious work. But, imho, worth it and enjoyable.
around a decade or so ago my friend was the drummer for a band called End to End and they opened for Behemoth here in Albuquerque and I got to see them in an earlier stage, and they were very scary on stage, a lot of theatrics, very fun.
My favorite song by Behemoth, this album was my first Behemoth album and I just sank my teeth into it and fell in love with it. Loved your reaction to the video, it was very similar to my first reaction to the band as a whole but it helped me eventually find who I am today.
Dude, if you want something different but also amazing try the band Batushka, song Yekteniya 4. They did something no one did before. Just try it, I highly recommend it.
I like you, mate. What you are doing with this ...project, I guess you could say, is admirable. I've been subbed and like/watch nearly all of your vids. I applaud your willingness to take on a whole general genre, especially considering that many of the subgenres are fighting amongst each other on occasion. Either way, I respect your breakdowns of them and appreciate your willingness to venture into this genre as a whole. Keep up the good work. \m/
Hey Alex, how is it going dude? Did you ever listen to Rotting Christ? If not I would love to see you reacting to as song of them! Maybe "Devadevam" or "Ze Nigmar". Cheers, Danny
You have to react to Behemoth- Blow your trumpets Gabriel. It's fucking great. Edit: Also, this song is not meant to be taken literally. Go watch a couple of interviews of Nergal and you'll see how sweet he is as a person. SATAN comes from an aramaic verb who meant "he who opposes" and is NOT a distinct entity in the original version of the Old Testament. Lucifer is a different being, an allegory for a cruel Babylonian king (he's the beautiful fallen angel). In the OV, "Satan" was used to describe David, a mob of people, one of Yahweh's angels and a couple of unnamed entities. The latter are the ones who kept the name "Satan" throughout translations but they could all be different creatures for all we know- one of them is actually friends with Yahweh (book of Job). "Satan" is often used by secularists as an allegory- It means opposing theocracy and indoctrination in spite of the hatred that may come your way for doing so. So "summoning Satan" can mean "summoning the strength to stand against societal norms" among other things.
4:30 and so on: the way you headbanging is a clear sign that you dont catch the rythm of the song. Dont worry, Black metal is one of the hardest one to do so. 5:31 you started to get this
Slugdge - The Spectral Burrows Nergal usrs some really deep cuts from biblical lore, I'd say interpretation is useless without understanding the references, apart from understanding it's meant to be blasphemous and using other figures as symbols in a war against God. Not necessarily an theistic belief system, but rather an agnostic or atheistic approach of Luceferians, I can't remember Nergal's exact form of beliefs, but it isn't the stereotypes of sacrificial satanist and more about taking life into your own hands, where Lucifer is the ultimate symbol of free will. The funny part is he likely knows the religion better than most Christians do.
k0bra 3eak great shout on Slugdge, I think one of my favourites has to be Eye-Hate-Salt (simply for the pun) and gastrinomicon(sp?). At least one of the guys is from my home town too!
Man you're a brave dude, Alex. Brave dude. Behemoth get the inspiration from a Greek archetype known as the Akephaloi, which are "headless men" that were said to inhabit the world as servants of the gods. Behemoth aims to portray the dichotomy of Light and Dark influences through their style, melody and lyrics, as well as their historical references to different pagan worldviews and how they relate and even influence through history our modern ideas of Christianity (Christmas, Easter, Resurrection, Venus, etc). Brilliant, really.
WTF are you watching? lol. Great reaction. Black metal is announcing not worshiping. It personifies the shadows which rule our world, both human and spirit. Enjoy xx

Peace, man.
Well said 👍🤘
If you're diving into Black Metal, try to do it in chronologie.
The Genre evolved quite a bit.
Listen to more Basic Stuff like:

Maybe even some New Stuff, thats faithful to the Basics.
MGLA - Exercices in Futility

My absolutely fav song of all times!! Had no idea it was actually a summoning spell in the end, but daaamn it's beautiful to tears like literally! 🌑
One of the best extreme metal songs ever created. And the album is an absolute masterpiece.
You are 100% correct about religious background, behemoth is everything I love about hatred of religion.
Yea, my first song was slaves shall serve (i think thats the name) and couldnt get behind it, then about a year ago i listened to the satanist and lived it
Behemoth and black/death metal in general can be an acquired taste. However, once you "get it" it's so fucking dope.

That's... Not a breakdown. That's a bridge or an intro to the outro if anything

No harm is done to little boys there, and it's very melodic.
lokigodof SPOILER ALERT no harm done to boys, just Jesus hanging upside down on a cross bleeding onto three naked women.

Pretty sure it has no Crowley's demagogy behind it, if i had to guess it's just a kid spitting holy water our as a form of resistance to kids being dragged into church at a very young age in most Catholic country and not being given a freedom to choose for themselves to which god if any they are going to believe or whatever
But why is the holy water white?

Behemoth is definitely not the kind of band whose songs and videos are something one just gets from listening to it once/occasionally. The amount of symbolism and references to so many different cultures and their respective religions is so much, that listening to them is actually serious work. But, imho, worth it and enjoyable.
around a decade or so ago my friend was the drummer for a band called End to End and they opened for Behemoth here in Albuquerque and I got to see them in an earlier stage, and they were very scary on stage, a lot of theatrics, very fun.

Everything about Behemoth is so artistically beautiful, Full of emotion.

Slugdge - The Spectral Burrows
Nergal usrs some really deep cuts from biblical lore, I'd say interpretation is useless without understanding the references, apart from understanding it's meant to be blasphemous and using other figures as symbols in a war against God.

Listening to this song live (Behemoth concert) is one of the greatest things I’ve ever experienced
