- Marvel's "Black Panther" movie is expected to make at least $150 million over four days when it opens this holiday weekend. The highly anticipated film is the first major superhero movie with a black lead character, a black director, black writers and a predominantly black cast. Director Ryan Coogler joins "CBS This Morning" to discuss the pressure of helming the history-making movie, the trip to Africa he took to prepare for the job, and maintaining the political tone of the original comic.

He didn't just make a good movie. He made a phenomenal movie! A rich, almost Shakespearian story; compelling characters; great action and humor; and a stunning celebration of culture, heritage, tradition, identity, and home. It really is unlike any other Marvel film in its scope and vision. My hat's off to Mr. Coogler and the whole cast and crew.

I cringed a little bit when they said that this movie was "kind of like his debut" because fruitvale station was amazing and creed was amazing and got all kinds of mainstream attention
yea I did too! like any movie person would know fruitvale was definitely his debut breakout movie...Only thing I would say is different is this movie has forced him to do more interviews.

You can tell when he first talks everyone is a little caught off guard with his Oakland swag, but by the time he's done with the interview everyone in the room is very impressed with him.

Well, not EVERY one. :) Dawg lives 30 minutes away from my house (not that I've been invited or anything) but when you know he's from Oakland, and you live in the SF Bay Area, you know he's gonna be down. So proud of him. This film is epic and so is Mr. Coogler.

I’ve never experienced tickets being sold out during the pre sale until now. I have my tickets already but planned on going again on Saturday but every show is sold out until the following week. INSANE. I always go see Marvel films twice but I’m sure for this one I’ll see it 3x.

The comic book had always been that way, so please don't act shocked with the political and racial statements of the movie. The main character is an African political leader. Just heading off that bs before it leaves the station.

I think the book is SO political, because the Black Panther was subject to Ben Grimm's (Fantastic 4's The Thing) racist jokes throughout his origin. I think the subsequent creators took it on as a challenge to bury that with Black greatness as the years went on. Especially Reginald Hudlin and on.
I am reading the priest run for the first time right now I am still in the Achebe arc. But Seeing Black Panther put the smack down on Captain America left a big impression on me. So I always shout out v4 first.

Congratulations brother. Humble and destined for greatness.
Coogler is 3 for 3 as a writer/director. Guy is a phenomenal talent. Loved the film (had a few dodgy CGI moments, but many films have them). The supporting cast all felt like headliners. And Killmonger become the best villain that the MCU has put on screen, written beautifully and performed fiercely by Jordan.
Great film. More than a comic book movie, it had a good message. I can't wait to see more of Wakanda. The MCU is so much stronger than ever. The themes and intricately threaded storyline that has been crafted is so much to praise. Also Okoye, Nakia, and - of course - Shuri SHINED alongside the Wakandan king (both of them). I wish the regular side of Disney and Lucasfilm would have this attention to stories. Pixar and Marvel have great stories covered.

Everyone who loved Black Panther and its soundtrack needs to remember to write reviews for both. The production companies need to know that we enjoyed it and want a sequel. Saw it today at 11am. I Dressed up and got ready to transport myself to Wakanda. Wooooweee. Love it. This movie will change your life, your mind, your spirit forever! Perceptions you know.... Wow...I have to go back and see it again. I am processing my notes on the major themes of the movie right now and oh my...this movie got it so right in ways unseen. A heavy history lesson that most of us never got in the Dominant Hegemonic educational systems. Woooo. Black Panther lives. Got to see it a few more times to take it all in. So much to look at and see. Great story-line, intelligent story that is universal and what many countries are facing now. It is contemporary and futuristic at the same time.
