Yet another great video! Here's my ¥2: 1) Conbini are great for a few things - getting something to eat early in the morning (hey folks traveling to Japan for the first time - a lot of coffee shops do not open until 10am or later) and grabbing a chu-hi or snack or some bath additive late at night. 2) It blew my fucking mind when I was in Fukuoka and walked by the original Ichiran there to see the massive lines. COME ON, in Fukuoka of all places? We went to Shin Shin instead and had incredible Hakata tonkotsu ramen for a fraction of the cost of Ichiran with minimal wait. 3) Fujisan. Look, you're going to take the Shinkansen past it if you take the Tokaido Shinkansen anyway. Odds are it'll be shrouded in clouds. It was both ways the last time I went. 4) Ah Tokyo. Unfortunately, since it's likely that it will be your gateway into Japan. The Nigerian tout comment made me chuckle - look, ALWAYS say no to the touts. Your comment on the 'sameness' of Tokyo areas rings so true, unless you get out to the less touristy residential areas. If you have to be stuck in Tokyo for a week, get some day trips in. Head to Kawagoe for a bit or go down to Yokohama and see some Japanese takes on Western architecture. 5) Matcha. I do my absolute best to not be a standard issue basic white woman, and yes the green tea in all forms is likely fresher than what you get in your home country. However, yes, matcha is everywhere in almost every goddamned dessert. And I agree with Emil here on this one - TRY LOCAL COFFEE SHOPS. Remember, Japan has had a long standing economic relationship with Brazil and has had a robust coffee culture for nearly a century. 6) So are you telling me that I can use a karaoke booth as a cheap love hotel? No shit! HEY YOU! SUBSCRIBE! LIKE AND SUPPORT THE CHANNEL!
Pinning this because venuzomega has fantastic points and info! I agree with everything you say here, and konbini is a part of experiencing Japan for tourists and even daily life for working Japanese people! I'm very happy about the freshness standard being high, 24 hr availability and being able to grab high quality food easily. But if I had the option to, I'd rather wait and go to a real Cafe for a good coffee and handmade sand (and free salad bar!) I'm glad you agree with Tokyo blending together and I should've mentioned to take trips out of the core to Yokohama and Kawagoe like you said! Just try to stay out of Saitama lol
I appreciate that you say spicy things about Japan. I’ve visited 5 times and the further I get away from the tourist traps and over-Instagrammed parts, the better time I have. I fricking love Shiga. There are so many hidden gems that if they were in the suburbs of Kyoto, would be rammed with main character syndrome simpletons stepping over each other and everything to get their perfect Instagram photos that are the same as every main character syndrome simpleton’s photos. My biggest disappointment was going to Harajuku for the first time in 2019. Takeshita Dori was hell but walk 5 minutes away from there and there are some pretty unique and cool shops. I people watched for a bit and witnessed so many people shuffle to the end of Takeshita Dori, look around confused then turn around and shuffle up the same busy street they came from. Well done. You visited a busy street and probably didn’t buy anything or eat anything because everywhere is too damn busy. Time well spent! I’m happy that your channel seems to be a safe space to dunk on some aspects of Japan and over tourism. I love your content!
Thank you for the kind words! Being bombarded with reels, shorts and tiktoks about the same shit from Tokyo pushed me to make my videos and talk about some lesser known real stuff about Japan! Shiga is indeed awesome, and I had the same feeling about Harajuku the first time I visited Tokyo lol
@@JustAnotherJapanChannel Thank you for the reply. If I lived in Japan, I’d do similar to what you’re doing and cover the lesser known places. I’d seek out the small sake distillery tours, drive to the mountain shrines that never see a single guided tour bus, buy locally made wagashi, chill in the inaka izakaya. It’s hard to make content about Japan from the opposite side of the world! haha If you’re ever in Nagahama, I recommend an Izakaya called 長浜の縄 (Nagahama Rope). I also love Hikone. I can’t believe how close it is to Kyoto yet under visited. The castle and gardens are so quiet.
Who knew the ending of this video would be about budget love hotels. Make a video about destinations you mentioned instead of Tokyo to start out with and why they are superior, that would make a good video. Keep them coming.
Lol budget love hotel surprise! I intend on going to all of those places for content, and when I have lots of footage from those places I wanna make a 'why they are better' thing!
Found your channel recenctly from the "How to get a Visa in Japan video" And I can definitely say you make some of the best Japanese content on TH-cam your really underrated I hope you keep growing on here
For as long as I will only be able to visit Japan and not actually live there, I think I'll always love kombini food, but I get that when you live there, the novelty wears off. I've been living in France now for 4 years after 40 in Australia and I couldn't give two shits about cheese, baguettes and charcuterie anymore. It's just so normal here. In Australia, wine was special and kind of expensive - here I drink wine every night to the point where it's kind of boring. I guess that's why I cry into my pillow every night about all the chuhais I'm missing out in Japan :D
Absolutely! I think it's important to enjoy stuff when you're traveling and enjoy the novelty! It really does wear off after years of doing anything, so it's kind of a perk that you have as a tourist! I'll keep you in mind when I pop my Saturday chuhai later 😂
I mostly like tokyo for the different crane games. Thats what I did mostly during my 3 weeks in japan. But I still visited the places I wanted to visit, such as osaka, kyoto, hiroshima and morioaka.
Tokyo is a megacity with near unlimited stuff to do, but I've found it pretty soulless compared to Osaka and Sapporo! I'm mostly shitting on it because absolutely every other Japan content creator raves about it lol
I assumed KIX Osaka covered as the secondary international airport in Japan, as I saw arrivals from all corners of the world on the screens there last time I went to Europe!
@@JustAnotherJapanChannel I live in NZ, and it's far easier and cheaper to fly into Tokyo. I guess it depends where on the globe you live. However, I take your point and would have preferred to fly into Osaka.

Awesome video! Love your honest rants and insight. I only wish all your videos were longer!
Thanks man! Longer videos coming!
Had to reupload because of an audio issue, sorry about that! Also, fight me in the comments.

Wow thank you so much for this very kind comment, absolutely made my morning! I have plans for lots of content so I'm not stopping anytime soon!
Here I was thinking 6min is a bit short but you packed so many great tips in this video. Thanky 😊👍
Thanks for watching! I try not to make my videos longer than they need to be!

Thank you so much!
I'd imagine it's also cheaper to stay and do things in cities/towns away from Tokyo, right? If so, I'm in.
It absolutely is, unless it's at very 'famous' places like Nara!
Hearing more about other cities like Sapporo would be interesting
I intend to go there to shoot some content this year, probably in wintertime cause my viking blood loves snow and the fish is super fresh that season!
@@JustAnotherJapanChannel I'm also from a frozen hellscape (Canada) and visiting Sapporo in the winter is quite intriguing to me.
Bashing on Tokyo
The Tokyo bashing will never stop! 😂 Yeah people might be shy about speaking Japanese, and you get minimal interactions at the ファミマ!
I think that's a big part of it.
I concur with everything except matcha
Matcha ice is GOAT
I think I probably agree with this video. Have you made a video "6 Underrated Things in Japan That You Should Do"?
Added to my topic list!
Bit difficult to avoid Tokyo when it's the only city some of us can fly into!

Honestly I don't want to live in Japan because of Tokyo, I agree 100% that it's overrated
I appreciate honesty
Gotta keep it real!
