    Landscape photography is as old as photography itself, and is such a wide ranging genre. Difficult to define or pigeonhole, it can range from the greatest views of sweeping vistas, to the beauty found in the modern urban landscapes we so often find ourselves in.
    This look at the work of seven landscape photographers will help you appreciate how each of us looks and interprets the world in our own unique way. Both colour and black and white photography is included in this list.
    "Landscape photography is the supreme test of the photographer - and often the supreme disappointment." - Ansel Adams, Landscape Photographer

    Can't speak for the others, but much of the excellence of Adams', Weston's and Kenna's work is their mastery of darkroom printing, as much as the photography. Great video.

    • @ThePhotographicEye
      @ThePhotographicEye  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, actually someone asked about this point in a different video.
      Especially in B&W a great print made by the photographer themselves is a joy to behold.

      @@ThePhotographicEye I didn't understand the cult of Ansel for a long time because the books are all terribly boring and flat. And that turns out to be because he did work-for-hire for the US Government for years and many of his photographs are essentially US property and so can be used without paying his estate royalties or with their input on printing. And he never shot for straight printing. So you get flat images with no drama. But in art school, I was able to see the prints he made himself (including some giant prints made for corporations) and my opinion turned completely.

    Love this video Alex. I've had a camera in my hands for the vast vast majority of my life, shooting everything from sports, landscapes, street, news, weddings, starting with film, going digital, and these days going between the two, I shoot anything and everything, but I've never been one to sit and study other photographers work, my excuse is I'm too busy out shooting, in reality there's sooooo so many and so much to research, I do have a few favorites in various genres, and have a wee collection of books by various photographers. This channel I'm sure will fill in a few gaps in in my gaping education, and introduce me to others work. Looking forward to binge watching and learning from the channel. Happy new subscriber. Kind regards Paul in NZ.

    You seem the kind of person who respect diverse of opinion so I am inclined to think that if I disagree in some aspects here you wouldn’t mind.
    All great photographers in their own rights but very few real landscape photographers.
    And my question to most of the people that make these type of videos is: where are the contemporary landscape photographers? Some of the most amazing imagery in landscape photography has been made in the last 2 decades, landscape photography became so popular with the event of digital photography that there are many enthusiasts amateurs that work rival some of the beat professionals of any era. Historically speaking some of the names you mentioned are crucial in landscape photography and is development per say, but I find any list incomplete without the works of some of the best landscape photographers of all time.
