I’m so happy to have discovered your channel, Rupert! Thank you for introducing me to some photographers I didn’t know about. I’ll be looking for their books at the library this week!
This channel deserves more subscribers, the videos seem to be purely about the art of photography and not the gear or the latest fancy trending street photography tricks, or the editing process. There’s nothing pretentious here and I’m seeing more inspiring work in a ten minute video than I what I do by spending hours and hours scrolling through Instagram. Thank you.
Excellent video, we need to keep celebrating wonderful photographers like these by showcasing their work in lovely videos like this. More please and thank you.
I think your videos are the best photography videos on TH-cam Rupert. Beautifully presented, knowledgeable and; credit to your choice of music for each subject you feature.
...has been great seeing herzog getting the recognition he's due...not only are his photos wonderful, they are also great time capsules of here in vancouver
Hello Rupert: Thank you for sharing your unique view of the photographic world most of us know very little about. The selected works and your presentation are an inspiration for me and others to continue to define our own style or look. Keep it going george chiang rai thailand
I discovered M. Giacomelli watching an interview to M.Kenna, in which he said that Giacomelli had been an influential photographer for him, I love Kenna's work...
Thank you for this video. I had never heard of these gentlemen before but I plan on learning more about them. Found you by accident but I’m glad I did!! Thanks again!
Thanks for this. Interesting. A couple I know, but I found the others fascinating. Just goes to show how many great photographers there are if you look hard enough. Now I have to buy a Herve book!
Awesome video Rupert! 😎👍 I’ve been a huge fan of Philip-Lorca diCorcia for many years…in fact to this day, I still try to create similar surreal street scenes using artificial light in my street photography. Another two of my favourite artists are Alex Prager and Gregory Crewdson. Looking forward to watching your next video! ✌️
Thanks for this Rupert, I have the last book, but I hadn’t heard of any of the other photographers, so thanks for introducing them to me :- ) Cheers - Peter.
I live 30 minutes from Vancouver and have met Fred Herzog a few times in the past (passed away now). One cool thing about Vancouver is you can go to the spots he shot at and even though there are changes you still get that 50's classic chrome feel. Hotels, signs, stores, in many places you can see what he saw.
Thank you for pointing out these photographers to us. Amazing work. Still, I can’t help as to be sad about the things run nowadays. In those years, when we moved at a much slower pace, we looked forward to a monthly or weekly publishing or showcase, to which you needed to actually go to see the pieces of photographic art. Now everything is pushed and rushed through social media or dedicated photographic sites. Who takes time to appreciate photographic work? Sorry if it sounds gloomy, but it’s sad and I feel sorry for all those who’s work is not appreciated because of this superficiality.
Great coverage as usual. Please showcase some contemporary photographers in your show if possible. I just spent 15k (INR) on a Ray Metzler book after seeing your last video. Already tempted to buy something by Lucien Herve now. 😂
Nice! Which Metzker book did you go for? Try the Photo Poche book of Hervé if you want an inexpensive option, intro is in French but the printing's good.
You can talk a picture into being anything, they are just pictures that you may or may not take a second glance at. When you talk about the woman black with hood reflecting the shape of the lamps and a bit of white for contrast...??
Fred Herzog is one of my all time favourites. Kudos for including him in this line up. ❤

Try and find the work of Billy Monk in Cape Town in the 60s. I suspect you might enjoy his work.

Hey, you left me off the list!
Love the video, apart from the use of "deep dive". I don't know why, but the use of this phrase just winds me up.

@@rupertvandervell I got the city stills. Only one which was available here.
Really like your channel Rupert, but sadly had to give up on this one as I got hit by two almost back to back 20 second ads!
Sorry Robin, adjusted.
@@rupertvandervell Thank you … really captivating Vlog … thank you … 😊

So interested learn. Please send me some information

same old boring clichéd rubbish, dark, contrasty shadows, boring and predictable as hell,
Great video, thank you very much!!!
