Autumn Wildcamping in the Lake District

- My friend, Heather, and I headed up to the Lake District last weekend to see all the Autumn colours before they disappear! We first headed to Rydal where Heather went for a freezing swim, then for lunch at Lucia's in Grasmere and then heading over Kirkstone Pass to Patterdale where we started out hike and camp. The evening was pretty freezing and it ended up blowing a gale all night! But nothing beats wild camping, whatever the weather, and we were in the most beautiful location :D

This clip actually made me cry... the music was absolutely beautiful.. and the fact that you were hanging out with a friend in such a beautiful place., I’m very envious .. a good friend can enrich your life so much . I’ve never had that. You have excitement and wonder for life that I’ve lost over the years. Your country looks sooo beautiful. Thank you for taking us on your adventures with you., it makes me feel like I’m right there.

Over the course of my life I have been fortunate to travel to many beautiful parts of the world, but I struggle to thank of any quite as beautiful as the Lake District, a place dear to my heart. Thanks for sharing.

You two are my new Rock Stars, your presentation has bought tears to my eyes. I went to Rydal a few years ago and stayed in at yurt at Rydal Hall and from there explored the Lakes. The lakes can match anywhere else in the world for beauty. Loved your spirit and enthusiasm, I wish there were more people in the world like you two. Thank you for magnificently catching the beauty of the Lake District. The colours of the vegetation it’s so breathtaking, the music captures the essence of the surroundings. This scenery inspired many works of romantic literature, it’s not hard to see why.

A week before I left for Australia I went to Rydal with my son. It was the last time I saw Autumn there for 4 years now. 2 years since I've seen my son. The Lakes are breathtaking that time of year. Queensland has a very different vista and climate. Thank You.

@@agnesskibicka Hi Agnes. Covid for one (I live in Australia) My son lives with his mum in the UK. Secondly, my ex wife wont let me take him abroad to Spain or Europe only in the UK. It is illegal but I cant afford to fight it yet. So it limits my chances to see him.

Lovely! That's what it's all about - even the cold, wind and rain : ) Place Fell was my first fell in Feb 2001, and Angle Tarn my first wild camp later that spring. Thanks for bringing back the memories!

I have been unwell for a couple of days and was just about fed up with TH-cam, then I came across your vlog, it has giving me a real lift and I’m gagging to get back out on the hills , I do most of my walking and camping here in Ireland. This is the way I like to experience Europe. I have done this in the Alps where I shouldn't have been 'camping'. I was hammocking and really only there between sundown and sunup. Those were the best nights and mornings. I would love to travel the Uk camping all over.

I just been in LD last summer for the first time. Love that mornings on the lakes site, sun go up on rocks and quiet...Fresh coffee and tea, breakfast and go another day... take care ladys. Tom

I camped here last year in November too and the temp was -7 but the sky was so clear and some fantastic constellations a brilliant place for peace of mind

Used to live in Windermere for ten yrs. Often walked n camped out while fishing the tarns n rivers,brings back memories well done!

What a fabulous spot and enjoyable video. Spent many happy family holidays years ago staying at Side Cottage in Patterdale, but never did walk up to Angle Tarn. Will have to try and remedy that one day. Back in my day, there was no such thing as 'wild swimming', it was just 'swimming' :-)

I think your friend needs certified swimming in those temperatures. I would never have thought of carrying a wet suit up a mountain.

Nice! Sounds great. Sadly we didn't take enough kindling to keep it going for too long, and there's not a lot of wood lying around up there! Imagine you have plenty of amazing forests in the mountains of Western Canada!
@@RambleFamily Yes , we have great expanses of forest, which shelters you from some of the weather but limits your view as well. The Selkirk mnts is an interior wet belt so at some times of the yr its tricky finding dry wood so what i do is prepare wood ahead of time, always having some dry tinder and enough wood for two to three burns. I just catty it in a plastic bag, weighs next to nothing and if its dry out and there's good wood around, which most of the time there is, then i just use that and keep my wood stash for a another time. In the end we just find ways ee like to hike and camp and do that. Btw i noticed in another video of yours that your climbing. Good luck with all of your efforts, its a fun sport. I was an avid climber in the eighties and nineties, now i just hike and bike. Good luck on your adventures.
