Makes no sense, does it? All this seems like was a move to reassure fans that he wasn't going to be retained per the contract signed when Barta was A.D. last year (Avg. 25 PPG). Firing him and promoting Copeland or Budmyer would have been the STRONG MOVE. This was "saving BF for 5 more games." She is trying to calm fans at games from the mean chants. This was a PRO Ferentz move!
Kirk Ferentz has, in the lst 15 years, had issues arise with the team, drug use, drug sales, alcohol abuse, accusations of sexual abuse. On the field, his conservative play calling not going for it on fourth down. The quarterback situation was only stable with Nate Stanley. Then that mess with that trainer injuring players in the off season overworking them. Kirk seemed to be ghosting all these issues by not stepping up and addressing these issues publicly, so that everyone could see his authority actually restoring sanity to an insane issue. I thought at todays presser, he was so pissed off that Brian got the axe. When he said to that reporter who asked him if HE was going too? His teeth were gnashing, as he said he only considers the next game. Thats it folks. So some folks love him. He may not be all that happy about being loved this week. #jussayin
It's completely fair the criticism he has received and anybody enabling horrible behavior and looking the other way during years of racial discrimination and nepotism was never going to end well for Ferentz in Iowa. They will never get any playmakers on offense until Kirk is gone!!!
Pfft. How did she stand up to them? Firing him would have been standing up to the Ferentz Family. He already was going to not be retrained per the 25 PPG Failure. All she basically did was reassure people the mandate signed in the contract last year was going to be enforced.
Kirk needs do his job and the program needs to come first!!! Kirk's feelings are meaningless!!!!! Are we that desperate for him to go into the College Coaches Hall of Fame wearing an Iowa jersey?
Should have happened after last season but better late than never. My concern now is who will Kirk hire or does he just slide Jon Budmayr over to OC and we get what we've always had. Brian's offense certainly took a dip but it's not like it was much different than Greg Davis or Ken O'Keefe. Will Kirk hire a good OC and let them actually run it how they want.
Given the football schedule next year and beyond it would be a great move for KF to retire regardless of recent events. The golf course will be a good place for him to be when the fanbase meltdown reaches Chernobyl proportion when 8-4 and 5th in the conference is pretty much the regular season program ceiling no matter whom is coaching. Ten years from now fans will be waxing eloquently about the good old days when coach Ferentz was winning 10 or more games in a year.
I have a feeling after watching Kirk Ferentz's presser today that he's going to retire after this season. I don't think he would have originally, but the way Beth Goetz handled Brian's firing left him feeling bitter. One could argue that what was done had to be done and perhaps now was the right time. However, the gesture to allow Brian to finish the season and give him a head start on a new job hunt obviously didn't soften the blow to Kirk too much. I'd venture to say Brian probably may probably be taking this better, and HE was the one that was fired, not Kirk. I hope I'm wrong about Kirk though. I want to see him go out on a better note with something positive to remember him by. Maybe if in the unlikely event Iowa wins out and miraculously upsets the East champion in the title game that may be enough to sugar coat things. Then maybe Kirk retiring would feel right to me. But not like this, not with this salty energy. Not when we could be looking at a disappointing finish.
@drewspinoso4849 Assuming you are an Iowa fan are you going to feel the same if (more than likely when) Iowa goes to dead last in the standings in the coming revamped Big Ten for 5 to 10 years because of it? Get used to going from 9 average wins to less than 5 for a while. But if you aren't a fan, then why the hell are you so mad? You shouldn't even give a crap. I'm not saying this shouldn't have happened, but it should have been after the season. That's how Iowa normally does things.
@drewspinoso4849 Also I'll bet Kirk Ferentz has done far more for the state of Iowa and hundreds of young adults and children than ypu could ever hope to do in your life. Life it's all about football. What he's done while coaching goes beyond his performance on the field
So what. The nepotism crap needed to stop. Brian is not qualified to coach a middle school flag football team. No other program in the country would have put up with his utter incompetence handling the offense
Didn't the head coach hire his son as OC? Why would he not personally dismiss him? Seems odd to me. Seems the offensive struggles further reflect negatively on the head coach - it's his philosophy of team play and the responsibility for wins and losses are ultimately his.
I dont understand why we would announce to let our OC go while we are contending the conference championship. Now the water is muddy and we are still in the same situation. I think this is foolish.
It seems Colorado is outdoing in recruiting!!!! Young men who want to go to the NFL want NFL level coaches!!! They don't care if there's a trojan or a buckeye on their helmets. A coach is 50% recruiting and a coach who has dicriminated black athletes in the past isn't going to make black parents say, "Oh yah I want to send my son or daughter to Iowa!"
Why keep him around for the rest of the season?

Why doesn't any talk about May 2020. How many de-commits did we have.

I think you are absolutely right.
Thank God and Beth Goetz.

To Beth AD of Iowa one more to go don't wait to long

So long Baby Huey!
Kirk has been good for Iowa football nice guy and fair but he should retire and hope we can get into indy
Hope Brian saved his money…who the hell would want to hire him?
Bye bye Brian 👋
Given the events of last 24 hours and the 2024 football schedule , Kirk might retire after the bowl game .

He won't leave without all his easy money. It's free money with a tiny effort being successful in this crappy conference.

Good! I hope he feels stupid for hiring his crappy son and thinking we should like it.

Because in order to hire him, they had to work around State nepotism laws and make the AD Brian's "supervisor"
@@LockedOnHawkeyes Duly noted. Thanks.
"Success" in this crappy conference is nothing to write home about!!!!
Drew Tate QB coach !
Maybe. I think that OC from Wyoming is who they are going to go after = Tim Polasek.
Time for Kirk to follow and they both can retire and go to Disneyland and ride the tea cups.
Then he blames the players for getting hurt

Have you been watching your team this season? Last season? The one before that?
@billytuesday4492 should have let him go end of last season. 🙄
