I could not agree with you more on all your analysis of Fran. This is a Coaching thing for sure. There is no way Dix and Harding do not score unless they have just lost all motivation which is the coach. I agree with the comment below, do it now! Let Gaten coach the remainder and see if he can motivate them. If does, keep him. If not, look for new coach ASAP. We want to keep a few players if we can: Harding, Freeman, Traorie, Dix, Pryce- do not care about the others.

Sorry, I don't believe the "Fran doesn't care" statements and I don't believe the "lack of effort" statements either. I don't believe that any kid or coach walks into an arena to not compete. Of course everyone wants to compete! They looked good in the first half. Then, their shots started to not go in. The response was to run down the floor and launch 3s... except those didn't go in. Like any competitor, OSU capitalized. I don't blame them for launching 3s - they made 6 of 21 - so that strategy didn't work. Dix went 0 for 7 - so zero points after putting up 31 in an earlier game -- and P Sandfort was 5 for 16 so his shots weren't falling. Should Fran tell Dix and Sandfort to stop launching 3s? I am not a coach but I've heard announcers talk about shooting your way out of a slump. Is that an outdated idea? Basketball is a game of makes & misses. OSU had more makes; IA had more misses. They have Purdue and then WI at home before heading out east for Rutgers & MD. My hope is that IA gets 2 wins at home and the mentality that it really doesn't matter what building they are playing in - they have the ability to win on the road. They have to find that mentality for any tournament(s) they want to play in after Sunday, 3-9, at NE.

Trent, I was at the Texas vs Texas A&M game Saturday in the Moody Center Arena. This should be the model for the renovation of Carver. Great amenities, seating, and scoreboard graphics. Holds 10,000 for basketball and 15,000. for concerts.

It's another team that is so overmatched athletically that x's and o's don't matter. Guys are trying, they are just slower, shorter, and exponentially less athletic than their opponenet. Fran is collecting a check at this point and doesn't care but he has done us a big favor by coming here--don't have any expectations. The league is just too hard (blah, blah, blah). Fran is such a fraud tough guy--he talks it, but doesn't coach it, recruit it, or display it. Another finesse roster that is better suited for the Ivy League not the B1G. Would not surprise me if Freeman and Dix test the portal waters. Fran's incompetence is not setting anyone up on the team for success. Put Traore and Tadjoe in the game Fran--they are at least are athletic enough to not get embarassed.

In regards to offensive rebounds Iowa had 0 in second half against the buckeyes.

It's really frustrating to watch. There's plenty of talent but somehow the cohesion is gone. And Fran doesn't look like he cares anymore

Not to defend Iowa, but Ohio State was 29th in the NET ranking coming into that game with wins at Purdue and vs Kentucky. They are clearly in the tournament as of now so to say they are not even a bubble team is totally incorrect.

They should let go of Fran right now or the next two games if they lose to Purdue and Wisconsin

Didn’t even know they played. That’s how signed out I am. There’s no risk getting rid of Fran. A basketball program can be rebuilt quickly. Goetz has some big time decisions to make in the next couple years for sure.

The Penn State dual has potential to be a real barn burner. Listening to Tom Brands’s press conference, there is a good chance Drake Ayala will wrestle and win at 133. At 149 #2 ranked Kyle Parco should be a win for Iowa. Likewise, #1 Jacori Teemer at 157 will be favored. At 197, #1 Stephen Buchanan has been a bonus point machine all season. Those results would give Iowa four victories. On the other hand, 141 is a weight where we will probably give up bonus points. At 174, Penn State’s #2 Levi Hanes will be heavily favored over either of our wrestlers. At 285, Kerkvlett easily majored Kueter last year. He is too heavy for Kueter to have a chance. Those results would give Penn State three victories. My opinion is that there are three matches that could go either way. On paper, Penn State is favored in all three. At 125 last week Penn State’s Luke Lilledahl was ranked #6, but lost to the 19th ranked wrestler. Iowa’s Joey Cruz started the season slow, but that last two weeks has defeated the #16 and #18 rated wrestlers. He works out every day with Spencer Lee. At 165, Penn State has the #1 ranking. Iowa has #2 ranked, undefeated Michael Caliendo. Finally, 184. Penn State has a four-time national champion, Cater Starocci. And Gabe Arnold, who on any other team in the country would be at 174, is calling him out!!! I maybe crazy calling this a toss-up. It should be an interesting night of grappling.

Great to see the women's team having fun again. Lucy shook off her shooting slump. Maybe that will get her going again. Interesting coaching decision by Washington to keep their starters in down 36 to full court press and foul Iowa's 3rd string unit until the final buzzer. The last 4 minutes may have been more embarrassing than the first 36.

Iowa doesn't have the upper classman to compete. Payton Sandfort, Dix, and Thredwell are physically weaker than most of their opponents. It explains the poor defense and poor rebounding. Payton is too inconsistent on offense. Hell, the whole team is. 3 of 21 from 3 is not on the coach.

Time for AD to show courage n let Fran n Kirk ! Hire me as AD for ten minutes, promise I’ll can both !

The head coach at Murray State used to coach at Iowa State. He had some really good basketball teams. I think he would love to have another shot at the big time. Get him up here now.

And why would many of the people mentioned want to coach Iowa? You said yourself that nobody is coming to the games. The Gophers were the better team, plain and simple.

Most of the coaches I've seen mentioned so far I feel would be qualified from an x's and o's standpoint, but my concern is if they will they be able to recruit well enough, especially in this new era of basically unlimited free agency. I'm not a huge fan of Fran and wanted a change after the blowout losses to Gonzaga and Villanova in the tournament 8 or 9 years ago when he had a veteran core of players. But to go a level above Fran or Dr. Tom type success could be a tall task without a staff who can really recruit.

He needs to go. He does not teach defense! He does not teach toughness. I believe the team is way underpeforming.

Here’s an Off the wall idea for our next HC: Chauncey Billups. Not sure if he would be interested in making a Mike Woodson type move to college, or how interested he’d be in living in Iowa, but he’s likely to part ways with the Trail Blazers after he finishes his lame duck season this spring. Because of the lack of the blazers success during his tenure (which I attribute to front office issues and roster construction as someone who lived in Oregon for a bit and began following the blazers), he is probably looking at being an assistant coach in the nba or taking a tv job next season. If he wants to be a HC again, maybe he would consider a power 5 job in the college ranks. Would it make the most sense for Iowa? Idk. But it would be fun to see a HOFer in black and gold, and could bring some Deon Sanders type buzz to the program on a local level.
