- A retrospective on Los Angeles power/speed metal band, Savage Grace, formed by Chris Logue and named by the great Randy Rhoads. Join me as I take a look back at a band with some unique, fantastic early albums but who never could seem to hold on to a regular lineup.

BOUND TO BE FREE is one of the greatest album openers in Heavy Metal history! LOVE Savage Grace!
Thanks for creating this! awesome to discover more about the band!
Thank you for making the video about them. Savage Grace one of the best power/speed metal bands
TIL Randy Rhoads had a brother who was in a band
THIS is why I love your channel M.S. You show me bands I never would have found myself
May Dio bless you
Kelle was also in a band called simply Rhoads, they put out an album in 1986 i think
Thank's for that such a great band, back in the days. I saw them live in Hamburg ... they really killed it!
I've seen them in Hit Parader magazines a lot but i had
never actually heard them perform before until now
thank you for the video about them.🎶🎤🎸🎸🎹🥁🎶
Hey everyone ! My name is Hugo Terva, I've been Savage Grace's live drummer for about a year now, we've been playing quite a few shows over Europe (Germany, Holland, Sweden, Finland, Italy) and are hitting the road again in November/December in Spain, France, Belgium and Holland !
We have a killer line up made of Chris Logue and Dan Baune on guitar, Tasos Lazaris on vocals, Cristian Blade on bass and myself on drums.
Hope to see you guys on the road 🤘🤘🤘
@@hugoterva2639 thanks for the update, Hugo!
oh some glorious hairstyle ! :) made me really happy to see a new episode !
The After The Fall From Grace album is so epic, catchy and flows great.
So glad to see you posting once again. And about a band that I am familiar with and do appreciate as well! Learned alot about them thanks to you as always. Great job. Cheers.
Savage Grace! I didn't see this one coming. They had great album covers
As most of the comments show, Savage Grace still is criminally underated and mostly unknown though it is one of the best of this era, to those ears. Kudos for putting them under the light!
An Omen video would be awesome!
I can't believe you did a video of Savage Grace, one of my favorite bands, discover them while listening to the album after the fall from grace and from there I grew liking their songs, actually bought their ride into the night plus 1983 demo cd and now I love their ep the dominatress, great video Metal School 🤟
Ha! I had no idea Masters of Disguise was a continuation of the actual Savage Grace, with Neudi no less (I used to follow his page when I was on Facebook). I learn something new every day!
When people now think of 80s LA metal, they think the Sunset Strip glam scene, but there was another scene running parallel, which in addition to Savage Grace included Omen, Lizzy Borden, Tyrant, Cirith Ungol, Agent Steel, Armored Saint, etc.
Speaking of Tyrant I hope Metal School does a video on Jag Panzer someday. 🤘
@@jaysonraphaelmurdock8812 Hell yeah buddy! I was just listening to 4th Judgement the other day!
Damn, that is the first time I've heard you come down on an album like that. As per usual, banging stuff, my man. May the Gods of Metal knight you with a sword of the shiniest steel!
Ha! Another great one. Gee. I got goosebumps just listening. I was fortunate enough to see them in 1985, Loreley Metal Hammer Festival in Germany. Chris Logue was singing. Believe it or not, I still got the tape I recorded back then on MC, ha ha. They closed with "Bound To Be Free". I will definitely now listen to all their albums, I also got the reissues thankfully. Cheers from Germany!
There were so many bands at that point in heavy metal that sounded similar to each other it was hard to stand out
Dude…. I mean……. Simply incredible band that blew my mind at 15. Saw their tape reviewed in Ardshock in 85 or 86. So awesome to see them get some coverage,
Another stellar episode! Thanks for making these videos, dude! 🤘🏻❤️🔥🤘🏻
Thanks for all these Awesome Metal lessons🤘🤘
EPIC 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Love your videos ! It's like jumping into a time machine to re live the excitement of discovering new bands. May I suggest a Warrior video next. The US band that put out the classic Fighting For The Earth. Stay heavy my friend.
Fighting For The Earth is badass! 🤘😎🤘
His love and enthusiasm for Metal is infectous. He always puts me in a positive mood, just like Metal does.
@@FourteenWords-n4l aw thanks guys! 🤘🏻
You get another awesome 80s metal band I never heard of. I thought I knew my stuff and all the bands that came from that era but you keep introducing another one I've never heard of. I love it. I also like it when you show off a band that I actually heard of as well. I hope some other bands/artists you cover will be Zebra, XYZ, Saxon, Autograph, and Aldo Nova.
Saxon would be awesome but it would be a two hour video lol. Autograph would be nice. I love XYZ
One of the craziest, yet best one. This docu just screams Spinal Tap. Amazing how fast you put this up after Testament. Hopefully this one will stay on longer than your last. 😂😂😂 Fingers 🤞 no Copyright issues.
A nice obscure gem!
(Sorry about the trouble with the Testament episode, btw. That's definitely one of your best of this year.)
Very interesting as usual. Any chance at a Jag Panzer or T.T. Quick video sometime soon? 🤘😎🤘
Well, i certainly didn’t expect the nutjob twist ending to this story. But, those early album definitely sound killer.
can you make a destruction docu?
That would be amazing
Masters of Disguise "Back with a Vengeance" REALLY NAILS the "Master of Disguise" Savage Grace sound.
No Metal School video is complete without german legend Neudi.
😂👌🏻
Our Producer Kalli Coldsmith is a true John Steam in all alleyways! ❤
Never heard of this band, thrilled to learn more.
i have every Savage Grace release, and my favorite SG singer is...Chris Logue. His voice fits the music perfectly.
I remember a guy named Tommy Lee Stryder from Fort Lauderdale, Florida who was in this band briefly. I took one guitar lesson off him down in FL back in '87. He was pretty good. I remember he said he quit them because they wouldn't let him smile onstage and wanted him to wear all black lol.
They were a cool band. Too bad they couldn't hold a line-up together. I never knew they (sort of) reformed in the 2010's. Thanks for the video!!
At last ! I thought you were on a long vacation!!!! ha ha 😊
It has been an honor to play some of their old songs and many of our own songs under the Masters Of Disguise banner...
Please do a video on Fates Warning!!
Another excellent video! I'm an older metal head but I'm always discovered "new" bands from back in the day. I recently got into Savage Grace about 2 years ago, but I definitely learned something new.
Here are some other unsolicited suggestions for future videos:
Omen
Nasty Savage
Fates Warning
Annihilator
Flotsam & Jetsam
Rigor Mortis
TT Quick
Shok Paris
Atrophy
Exhorder
Hallow's Eve
Laaz Rockit
Xentrix
Demon
Chrome Molly
Vardis
A II Z (NWOBHM)
@@Rush-td4kp thanks for the suggestions!
My fave album is After The Fall. Trial By Fire was 1st I heard on a Metal Blade comp & had 2 get album. My fave tune fast became Tales Of Mystery song! Fkn epic tune.
Really enjoyed this vid, great work as always. I was a big fan of the epic power metal direction that "After the Fall from Grace" album took; Then SG was gone. Would really enjoy future videos to maybe look at Omen. Chastain(CJSS,etc) and Sanctuary/Nevermore. Perhaps even a video combining small output bands from the same scene, Heir Apparent, Fifth Angel and Q5 as a suggestion.
David T. Chastain is a beast. Nevermore is awesome
Fastway? If only for the "Trick or Treat" soundtrack which is 80's metal gold.
I vaguely remember Savage Grace from the 80s. In my area we had a very cool record store that got many of the underground metal albums, and a good friend of mine bought quite a few of those. I just dont remember if I had actually heard them, or just saw one of the albums in the store 🤔
That "Master Of Disguise" record cover would get you locked up today! Lol. Not as bad as that nasty Scorpions cover though..
East had some killer bass lines.
Chris got some more hired guns to do a few small club shows in Europe this spring. He didn't seem to be in very good health, don't know how much new material we can expect on that front. He also only played guitar, since he was barely able to speak - though I don't know if that was a cold on that particular night or a larger condition. The show was not too bad from a nostalgic standpoint, all the old hits.
I didn't know anybody else knew this band. It's got some killer songs like Tales of Mystery and fear my way and others I forgot. Now do Detente, Germany's Rough, Jade from Canada, Acid from Belgium, Helstar and then do Detente again.
\m/ Helstar \m/
Killer band! You should do a doc on Bulldozer!
Great as usual
Savage Grace fucking rules lml
Great 80's band!
Nice video😃👍🤘
Wow, that Masters of Disguise stuff is ripping!!! 👍
A slap in the face to consider Master of Disguise as part of Savage Graces history.
Always thought they were super underrated
Wooooo 🎉
Easy on us flat Eathers, otherwise we might not catch you when you fall off the edge. 😮
Nice job.
@@DS-yo4uw thanks man, still love ya haha 🤘🏻
I was at that show where Chris sang for the first time, it was in Dynamo in Eindhoven. I think that night they ruined their chances to be a huge band. Master of Disguise was a very successful album in Europe and I remember everybody being real disappointed that the (fantastic) singer wasn’t there but Chris must have had a few drinks for courage so he was wasted on stage. Most people walked out and they had a bad review in Aardschok which was a huge magazine.
@@benzedrine5314 wow, yeah I heard they got a bad review after but couldn’t find out where it was from. Although it’s probly not in English anyway haha. There’s an interview with Neudi where he talks about how bad the singing was at that show. But it’s impossible to really hear the vocals at all on the video clips. They definitely should have kept Mike.
🤘😁🤘
Love your videos
Rock on!
Please do
Fates warning
Queensryche
Coroner
Carcass
Watchtower
Sodom
Saw them plenty back then 😎
Still have the EP!!!!!!
Great job as always man!
But now that you've mentioned it, how about a video on Omen? 👀
@@fantome3799 haha I’d love to but they have basically no footage to pull and no music videos so it would just be me talking for like 40 minutes. But maybe I should do them anyway
@@MetalSchoolChannel you definitely should hehe
Can you do a Metal School episode on Silver Mountain from Sweden? They are a Heavy Metal band in the same vain as Savage Grace, Tank and Turbo.
@@jamesbojaski interesting, I’ll check em out!
Never heard of this band.
I still love Mike Smith-fronted Savage Grace. No one seems to have the correct reason why Mike Smith left Savage Grace. I read somewhere that he developed anxiety from the thought of taking off to Europe for the tour, and just bowed out. IMO Christian Logue sang like crap. You can't go from a great vocalist, to Logue on vocals. That's what ego does I guess, it makes someone think they can just takeover a huge aspect of what made Master Of Disguise untouchable. I had bought the next album "After The Fall From Grace", and never wanted to hear it again. But Master Of Disguise I must have heard over a million times now and still love it.
I got the need the need for speed yes thank you😮🎉🎉🎉😂
Heard of, but never checked out until now. I'm supposed to slow down on buying new music lol, but they sound too good to ignore. Thanks! Also, I can't remember, did you cover Agent Steel? Got some Cyriis strangeness vibes when you talked about Chris.
@@daniellothgren157 not yet! But a good addition to the list for sure
I'm sorry for giving you a copy of Logue's autobiograph. How much of it did you wind up reading?
@@UnsungUnderground lol, oh man it was brutal but also helpful since there is so little info out there on them. The book was easy to skim because he spends PAGES on graphic sexual encounters and recounts a lot of nonsense conversations between him and other band members. But it only goes up to 1992, which sucks because I was wondering what his take would be on the “Dr. Santee” stuff. I wouldn’t recommend that book to anyone who wants to stay a fan of Chris haha. But seriously, thanks again!
Please do Warlord!
None of their songs on Spotify :/
At least not in my country. Will have to resort to good old MP3 rips lol
Why did you took of the testament docu?
The Copyright stuff got too out of hand.
@@junkheade oh i am sorry
Pls make a vid on Thor
Thanks for the video. I want to recommend 2 vinyl releases to you. Medieval Death LP and free DVD and the Mordicus “Rights ‘n Trials” LP. If you want to know more Google [Medieval Death LP and free DVD + Mordicus “Rights ‘n Trials” LP], then check audio, videos etc. \m/
@@TheCoverUpsLondonUK will do!
From first demo to Bare Bottom Blues - hardly the same band definitely a much better band with much better songs.
I will get all of Savage Grace albums. 😀👍🎸🤘
That first album's vocals sounds like someone killing a cat....in Ohio.
Gabriel recorded the album a couple of years before it was released, before that he joined Lynch Mob and recorded Babylon, he is still with them. The videos were taken by someone else who is lip singing and obviously doing a horrible job. You can see the difference of the picture when Gabriel is mentioned and whoever is 🎬 is on the videos 🤷🏻♂️
The singer in the Star Crossed Lovers is not Gabriel Colon, thats why it looks so bad
@@KITFestival oh damn. Well that would explain that bit haha. Thanks for the info. The picture I found of Gabriel wasn’t a very clear one
Should have done more research! That music video and the singer of the song recording at the end are not the same person
Mid band with creepy album covers. No wonder I never heard of them.
Their stuff got little interest mainly because they were a horrible band.
