Bionicle-Related Animation Tests + Renders

  • Music's from the game Bionicle Heroes on DS, downloaded from the BioMedia Project website.
    Animation's been done in Blender.
    Don't have any completed vids to share at this time, so here are some more test renders, both animations and just plain images. Some are over a year old, others more recent, so a lot of models shown here are actually unfinished. I didn't intend to reveal them until I have a mini movie out, but that's gonna take a while, and it was pointless to keep them a secret. Still got plenty of surprises left.
    No idea if anyone really cares about this stuff, but at least I'm showing that I'm still alive and working on things.

      +Minigun101 Thanks, though it was more a matter of luck than anything. The background is filled with colored lightstones and they just happen to produce that neat lighting effect. Other areas still look rather crappy.

    This is some amazing stuff!
    All the models are just great, super faithful to the source material while not being stiff or awkward, I'd describe the style as the one of the movie trilogy, only if they tried more.
    I love what you did with the Pakari, with every matoran having a slightly different one - Onepu having a more square shaped mask, Taipu having one big opening at the top and overall more rounded mask (a nod to the MNOG mix-up?) and my personal fave - Midak having a lightbox-style mouth!
    The animation is SUPER expressive too! Midak looks like he's telling Kopeke some kind of ghost story about the underground passage, I can basically HEAR the tone of his voice even though there is no sound.
    If these renders and animations are parts of a bigger project then I hope you didn't put it on an indefinite hold, that would be a damn shame. I'd KILL for a new bionicle movie, heck, even a short film like this... And you've got what it takes, dude.

    • @Vrahno
      @Vrahno  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks man! They're for a short movie I wanted to make a couple years back, but placing these models into one scene was a bit too much for the PC I used then, so I shifted focus to other, more important projects. I want to get back to it once I'm done with those.
      Templar Studio's mask switcheroo was indeed the inspiration behind Taipu. Since there's at least 4 Pakari-wearing characters in this little story I planned out, I thought it'd be neat to differentiate them with more than just their colors, like by adding unique characteristics to each.

    so you returned. and you returned in a glorious way. man, that is some good animation. and i say that as someone who has animated before. the models are great, the rigs are very well made (especially the face/mask animations) and the overall animation style is wonderful.
    i just wish you had enough power to render all your stuff in 1080p. maybe you can split your next project up and let parts of it render on other computers? i'd definetly be willing to sacrifice my calculating power to help you finishing your projects faster.
    keep up the amazing work, man

    • @Vrahno
      @Vrahno  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +SwongoBricks Thanks! And you know, it's funny seeing comments like "you returned", because though I check YT every day, I hardly every realize how little content I actually share. Can't believe it's been so long since my last finished video.
      You're definitely right in that better rendering power would speed things up a lot, though at this point, I'm more concerned with animating rather than rendering things out. As it turned out, I got a little carried away with this project and my computer can hardly handle animating all these models, much less rendering them.
      That's part of the reason for this apparent inactivity on my part -- until I get my hands on a better PC, this Bionicle animation thing has to be put on hiatus, and in the meantime I've been busy (busy as hell I can tell ya) working on other stuff instead.

    • @Vrahno
      @Vrahno  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +codee²¹² All done with Blender Internal -- can't really do much with Cycles due to technical limitations. All the different light sources in those renders just made them look Cycles-esque.
      I'm trying to outdo my earlier fan film in several aspects. The models, environments, textures and the animation are way more advanced. But I'm hoping to keep it much shorter and the plot won't be anything special either. It will be more of a fun little side story.
      That is, if I can finish it. Haven't done much work on it for near 9 months.

    Hey Vrahno,
    Your animation and CGI looks terrific! I love it and the animation seems very smooth and lifelike. Just out of curiosity, where did you learn to use Blender? I've tried self teaching myself it by experimenting and reading books on it like I've done with After Effects, but Blender is just a whole new ball game and much more complicated to learn than AE ever was. Any sites or tips you'd recommend for someone like me?

    • @Vrahno
      @Vrahno  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +DarkRavenFilms Yeah, it's a finicky thing. For the most part I just looked at video tutorials here on YT and browsed Blender forums (like Blender Artists), and gradually got the hang of things. Every time I run into a specific problem, I just run a Google search to see if any of these sites offers solution.
      I've been using Blender for years but I still learn how to do very basic things on a regular basis and there's lots of more advanced features I haven't dared to tinker with yet. My learning-curve would probably look like a messed-up jumble of lines.

    • @DarkRavenFilms
      @DarkRavenFilms 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vrahno Hey, thank you for responding! I appreciate that you took the time to respond! :). Anyway, thank you- I will definitely have to look at some tutorials here on TH-cam and sign up for some Blender forums. It's been a goal of mine to learn at least basic CGI but it's been very difficult for me to sit down and learn it.
      I am sure a program as big as Blender certainly has a lot of features that would take years to discover them all and/or start getting good at using.

    • @Vrahno
      @Vrahno  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +DarkRavenFilms You're welcome, and good luck with whatever you'll be doing with Blender. I was impatient with it too, and jumped into more advanced stuff without having learned the basics, so I faced a lot of frustrations. On the other hand, at least this meant that I got decent at some stuff faster.
      Some years ago I didn't even know how to make backgrounds, but now I'm making (admittedly very simplistic) city scenes and also trying to build up more detailed environments. Just gotta push my limits in a measured pace instead of getting overly ambitious and trying to do everything at once.

      On second thought, I could be misremembering. I recall having to record a bunch of SFX from the Flash animations once, so maybe that's where I got them from. I could upload them somewhere.

      @ARC9652 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Vrahno That could work. Or you can send me them via Gmail or just upload them on YT.

      +Harrison Taylor (ARC9652) Went ahead and put them on here: www.sendspace.com/file/xwx7p7
      Two Muaka sounds and a bunch of others I recorded from the old animations. There is slight static in some which I couldn't edit out. All my recordings had it.
