I remember playing this game the Christmas it was released and after watching the intro thinking to myself that graphics will NEVER get any better than this!
I played the Saturn version as a kid and it was ahead of its time. I liked how the bridge squeaks, the weather in the Aztec ruins level goes from foggy to rainy, it goes to a blizzard in the snow level, and the music in the Gene Gadget and Panic Puppet level sounds so techno futuristic. I prefer the music and graphics in the Saturn version although I have to give SEGA some respect for pushing the graphical limits in the Genesis version especially considering it was 1996 and the Genesis was on its final days 🥲🥲🥲
Check out the "Coding Secrets" channel. The guy was one of the programmers on this game and explained the painstaking tricks they had to use to pull it off.

Indeed,I Remember when my mom was cleaning the floor,she did hit my genesis on the opening screen and I felt the game had a tilt,but when i looked again i was at the level select screen,and I hugged my mother and started playing.
@Bryan BD It's a failsafe built in the game that triggers whenever an error occurs in the game's ROM (e.g. cartridge tipping). If you check out the channel Game Hut, it goes more into detail. The guy who made the video also worked on 3D Blast among other games like Sonic R.
I remember playing the first level, and this level select screen randomly popped up. No tilting or anything. I must have ran into a rare error and got the failsafe to activate.
this game was good in comparison to the 7th gen Sonic games. Even Sonic R was really good if you can ignore the awful controls on the saturn version i enjoyed that game

I love this game! I think it's so criminally underrated. Like yeah, it's completely different from the previous Sonic games but that doesn't mean it's a bad game. It's a lot of fun! Plus it has great music

I had such a love/hate relationship with this game growing up...I loved the music, the graphics were stunning, and quite advanced for a 16 bit console experimenting with 3D graphics in its infancy, but the controls were so clunky and awkward because of this extremely young technology, it was like trying to control a refrigerator on a skateboard >< I never was able to beat it, or even make it past the third stage for that matter.
I played this on the PC same thing different music but I couldn't beat it for the life of me(till my brother broke the disc) to this day I never had the chance to hunt down for a copy of Sonic 3D blast on PC
MLIPTCCK The Sega Saturn version has different music as well. Never played that version, so I can't say if they're as slippery as the Genesis/Mega Drive version or not.
I never played any of the Genesis games at all I only played some of the NES games which I still have (been thinking of getting a Retro bit console) but according to the reviews they say that it's good and bad found it on Ebay for $15.50 it's the Retro Entertainment System

Technically not, because there was actually a compilation game called Sonic classics, known in Europe as Sonic Compilation. It contains Sonic 1, 2, and Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, and while it was released in 1995 in Europe, America got in 1997, very near the end of the Genesis lifespan, thus making it the actual last Sonic game released for the Genesis

Ultimately, the reduced cost of chips and failure of the Saturn and 32x helped make this game possible. It was also the unfortunate beginning of the end for Sega consoles later seen during the DreamCast era. I really enjoyed the music in the second area. But ultimately, the whole 3D idea along with the Nintendo 64 doing the same, was the end of my time of enjoying console gaming as I became an adult. I much preferred side scrollers, retro gaming and 2.5D games. Sonic Mania, AM2R, and Axiom Verge are the best offerings to satisfy my retro gaming needs.

I'm actually not a fan of isometric games but for some reason this game has always tugged at my heartstrings. There's a naive charm and even a subtle sadness to this game that always stuck with me. Have very fond memories renting this game as a kid in '97/98 and playing my Genesis even after the 2D era was clearly over.

While the gameplay can be annoying, i have to admit the graphics were astonishing for the Genesis (a console released in 1988 don't forget, and Sonic 3d is from 1996). Technically it's probably the most advanced genesis game with Alien Soldier. Btw, the musics are cool too, too bad the game itself could be so tiresome sometimes.
This game proves that the Genesis is superior to the SNES technologically. The SNES's 3.58MHz CPU couldn't ever run this game without an enhancement chip, but Sega's 7.60MHz 68000 CPU has no trouble.
@@Mak1nBaconOfficial Yeah it was the svp chip, segas answer to Nintendos fx chip but unlike the fx chip that was used in several games, the svp chip was only used in 1 game which was virtua racing. Other games were planned like genesis ports of virtua fighter and daytona usa but were cancalled. So sonic blast like every other genesis game except virtua racing is using the base genesis hardware only.

I truly hated this game! My mom took me to the supermarket and they had a rental section in 1996 or 1997. I went home, put the game in, and after a little while began to feel sick. I felt like throwing up. I had to stop. Every time I played it I got sick. If I'm not mistaken the game had a disclaimer on a piece of paper about dizziness. I would have been 10 or 11.
I used to borrow my cousin console for 1 or 2 days because my parents did not have money, and this is the only game that she gave to me I was so happy inspite of our circumstances. Now that we have a better life I will start to give it back to those whos in need
This game made me commit suicide and my family became tramps, living on the street, doing unspeakable things for money. It also gave my dog and cat cancer. Otherwise it’s great.

I agree with you mate - I played this on PC, Saturn and Megadrive (I love this game, lol) and it's just so much fun to play and has a different feel to other Sonic titles. The level designs are great, the music is great... it's a lot better than anyone ever seemed to give it credit for.

That way to find the secret was very rare, just move a little the cartridge to open the screen,. Was fantastic.

And Diamond Dust Act 1 was re-used (but ruined) in Sonic Chronicles.
And The Final Fight music is used in Sonic Chronicles, in Mystic Ruins. It was better in Chronicles imo.
And spring stadium act 1 for emerald coast act 1

I'm not a fan of isometric either but with this game it fits perfectly so Sonic can run anywhere and build speed easily

What emulator was used for this? The "sound" sounds different than the console, although it's pretty neat to listen to the different emulation.
Pretty sure it's GENS. It tends to emulate sound without some voices of the Yamaha chip. KEGA Fusion is a bit more precise on that.
I'm pretty sure the YM2612 emulation is accurate but the SN76489 (PSG) emulation incorrectly substitutes the square waves for sine waves.

While the gameplay can be annoying, i have to admit the graphics were astonishing for the Genesis (a console released in 1988 don't forget, and Sonic 3d is from 1996). Technically it's probably the most advanced genesis game with Alien Soldier.
Btw, the musics are cool too, too bad the game itself could be so tiresome sometimes.

This game proves that the Genesis is superior to the SNES technologically. The SNES's 3.58MHz CPU couldn't ever run this game without an enhancement chip, but Sega's 7.60MHz 68000 CPU has no trouble.
I agree also why the 3-D driving level was cut from the Snes version of Toy Story.

@@Mak1nBaconOfficial Yeah it was the svp chip, segas answer to Nintendos fx chip but unlike the fx chip that was used in several games, the svp chip was only used in 1 game which was virtua racing. Other games were planned like genesis ports of virtua fighter and daytona usa but were cancalled. So sonic blast like every other genesis game except virtua racing is using the base genesis hardware only.

I truly hated this game! My mom took me to the supermarket and they had a rental section in 1996 or 1997. I went home, put the game in, and after a little while began to feel sick. I felt like throwing up. I had to stop. Every time I played it I got sick. If I'm not mistaken the game had a disclaimer on a piece of paper about dizziness. I would have been 10 or 11.
I used to borrow my cousin console for 1 or 2 days because my parents did not have money, and this is the only game that she gave to me I was so happy inspite of our circumstances. Now that we have a better life I will start to give it back to those whos in need

I agree with you mate - I played this on PC, Saturn and Megadrive (I love this game, lol) and it's just so much fun to play and has a different feel to other Sonic titles. The level designs are great, the music is great... it's a lot better than anyone ever seemed to give it credit for.
