So in upstate NY there's two seasons winter and construction. Therefore after watching this video I have purchased the ice studs from rocky mountain. Great videos keep up the good work and highlighting the little TW.
Hey James! I hear you! I just installed the rest of them on the front of my TW so I can get out and enjoy the hills with the snow. Best of luck to you riding out there and I hope they work well for you!
Im gonna ride my tw year round, in alberta it goes down to -60° with lots of ice but my work is a 15 minute walk or 2 minute drive. I saw how someone rode a tw200 from the north to south pole. Seems like a great reliable bike if you dont mind the cold.
Dang, that is some frickin' cold weather! Yeah, if you don't mind the cold it is great. I did a 200+ miles and 9 hour day on mine last winter and it was awesome! I am looking forward to more of those this year. Best of luck and enjoy the ride!
@@MOBStreet83 Pavement would destroy the studs on studded tires as well as the tire in short order. Stud are made for softer ground, the hardest being ice.
I have done quite a bit of winter riding on my TW and thought about studding but never did it. At 64 my two friends no longer want to do stupid shit any more so I guess I will just sip tea and stare out the window for a few months. Did you say Kimpex?
No, I not only did snow on a RW200 for 22 years, I managed to do road ice with both boots down on it. For recreation I shared muddy dirt roads with wide fast moving log hauling trucks. Did partner a week with metal studded knobby but the little lady kept had Yellow Fever episodes when we rolled into ice.
Thanks! Welcome to the channel! I had them at 30mph on the hard pack road, but that is the most. I wouldn't use these on the pavement though, they are too gnarly for that.
Those actually have a slightly taller head than my 1740 GripStuds. I can't wait to take mine on the lake and up the river! If you really want to lean it over you'll need at least one stud per lug. Would be expensive but lots of fun!
Really?!? Man, I don't know if I have the balls to ride on a frozen lake. I have been ice fishing plenty and that itself makes me uneasy, but maybe I should try it. I love watching folks race on ice and see what they can do, but I don't know if I can do it yet! 😂😂
@@MOBStreet83 it's definitely something that requires caution and knowledge. We usually just stick to places we know are shallow unless we're sure the ice is safe enough to support waaay more weight than we need it too. th-cam.com/video/iiJCtPQsFMU/w-d-xo.html
I’ve never use studs on motorcycle tire but my guess would be to do the sides on your front tires because you lean when you turn in that’s the part you’re gonna need to grip. You’ve got more than enough in the middle. From the snow racing I’ve watched they just slide they drive like it’s drifting And generally that type of writing is about momentum and the bikes just gonna drift but if you have your momentum going forward you can correct a slide if you’re sliding slowly there’s not much you can do but the fast you go to heart hurts when you crash so it’s not exactly a logical exercise. But if it was me I would put more screws on the front just on the edges we are going to be turning the weather gonna grab if your tire starts to slide. Either way it looks fun.
Hey Collin, yeah they say that you can take them out if you'd like. I decided to get new tires because I wasn't the biggest fan of those Dunlops on anything but the road really so I turned them into my snow tires. I bought a stock rear and the Shinko SR244 in the 4.60-18 for the front when these are done.
I rode the side of the road most of the way there. If I did, I was riding very slow so I wouldn't damage the studs. But, once out there, it was a blast! Gonna do the whole loop soon.
@@MOBStreet83 as someone who would need to hit a little pavement I would be curious how that would work. Maybe I will buy some and we could ride that upper road
@@Squarebodyshelley I'm super interested if you guys can make it up that! thats the kind of riding I would be doing if I had the studs so I'm curious to see how you guys do!
Yeah, they are great actually. I did hit pavement a bit, with my weight I don't recommend them on the road. The head of the screw is .280" and they are wicked mean. I don't want to ruin them and the hard pavement with me on the bike would do that for sure.
@@MOBStreet83 good to know, thanks! I thought it would be a little rough and it might be a risk of tearing some out. Never thought of just wearing them down, but I could see that now. Especially for bigger riders.
These were the ones that I used. Measure how deep your is and see if there is enough on the knobs to allow the stud to screw into. Mine were a little lower than what was needed and most worked just fine. I added some tire sealant and never had an issue with a punctured tire. I bet there isn't 30 seconds out of this 10 minute video of actual riding with the studs. Please put together a video showing them, not just standing around talking about 'em. Thanks!

Love it!! Season extenders...
Yessir! I wonder what they'd do on an ATV tire like you run?
Hi Matt,
Glad to see you back on the tw200. That looks soooooo cold but fun!
Thanks Michael! I have still been riding them, just not making videos with them. I wanted to bring them back!

Definitely add the rest of the studs.
I agree! Got 500 of em' might as well use em!
Thanks for the great videos you make
You bet! I am glad that you like them. Thanks for watching!
At this point, you'd want two sets of wheels, one for spring, summer and fall, and one with studs for winter, especially here in Minnesota.
Yep, you know how it is! I gotta find a spare set of wheels now. I already bought different tires for it so these can stay my snow tires now.

You're a lot better at it than I am. This is my first go with them and on the packed dirt roads I am having fun with them.
Great Fun with the kids, in the snow,,,,, priceless. A+
Thanks Clark! We really enjoy it!
New Sub This is awesome. I wonder how well they do at speed? I thinking about putting a set on the GSA.

Good stuff Matt!!! 😎❄️❄️
Thanks Brother! I appreciate it!
I always had studded tires on my car theyre the best
These ones are awesome! They are too aggressive for the street but they are great for the off road stuff!
Alright I'm one step closer to doin it. Can you take the studs out once the thaw comes? Or do you need a separate set of tires?

Is it suitable to ride on normal city roads? If going into town where there's no ice or snow but the roads still wet, is there still traction?
Nope, it'll damage the studs.......I might have tried it.
Ice Stud used to be my nickname 😆

Hey Matt do you know if I can put 1/2 inch studs through the stock tires. I bought some but Im not sure if Im going to puncture the tube

I wonder, can you use those just for trail riding on dirt also Or sand.
Yeah you can if you want to. They use them for mud softer terrain to help with grip also.
Screwball! Get her done keep having fun happy holidays
Got them all on and gonna go try it all again! Same to you and yours Chuck! Merry Christmas!
Could have used those last Thursday.
No joke! I should've had them on my KLX before I ate crap riding up a canyon road!
💪🏽
Thanks!

Thanks Atilla! Merry Christmas!
If you put that goo in your tubes you'll probably never know if the screws punctured them.😉
Goop is already in the tires.....we'll se how they do!
