never really been a big fan of gengar in adv ou. i think it's the lack of a boosting move and stab that turns me off. Cleaning and coverage is super nice, but i always felt underwhelmed. very nice video to explain things, thank you:)
yeah, gengar is a pokemon that often feels less impactful than it actually is. The little things it does, are often huge. It blocked one spin on your 2 layers? Thats another, maybe 5 switches with spikes down. BAM 83% damage done by simply *existing* . It chipped that one enemy with thunderbolt for 32% damage? Now its in ddtars kill range and you are one step closer to sweeping. Also, will-o-wisp is crazy good.
it also allows it to potentially hold its own against a pursuit ttar that has been burned on the switch-in as most people will go for pursuit at least once. That means, you get at least 2 giga drains off + spikes damage + burn damage. Even if you don't kill the ttar, you bring it down to where it can easily be dealt with by Gengars teammates. You can even "jebait" the ttar into using pursuit twice by using thunderbolt once, because then the opponent will think "nah, it will switch out as it loses that matchup. I'm gonna pursuit", and then BAM, you hit it with the giga drain that also ensure you survive 2 unboosted pursuits by swag glasses ttar in sand. those mindgames are what I love so much about gen 3.
Thanks for making this, while gengar has worked for me good, but I haven't used to much spikes with it. I will definitely think of that when I use gar again.
I don't think this comment will get a reply but I wanted to ask anyway just in case :) any recommendations for how to build a team with an adamant max attack choice band gengar with brick break, shadow ball, sludgebomb and explosion. Any help is much appreciated
Is Sub gengar never used (other than perishtrap lmao)? I feel like it has soooo much potential based on what you’ve said in this video… it has the most potential in ADV since it runs leftovers anyways and is immune to all hazards… it also guarantees you a safe switch to avoid pursuit, just a little bit of Atk investment can allow FPunch to OHKO fast TTar (and it’s a guaranteed 2HKO of FPunch + special coverage move on bulky DDance), can give you 2 chances to burn/sleep, scout moves/mons early game, etc etc. Is it just considered too passive in the current meta? Or else why isn’t it ever used?
gengar's health is really valuable and losing a free 25% it won't get back (sand) isn't worth it. plus it takes up a valuable moveslot you don't really need, it's better to run focus punch without sub and just predict
what is the point of using the word penultimate if u assume your listeners will not know what it means make them use an online dictionary, dammit, that's what I gotta do every time I read a quality ggfan tl;dr
I hear a noise creeping in the background. It must be the terrifying power of our freaky friend.
I love these videos a lot. ADV OU is my favorite meta. Keep it up man!

Because he counters ttar
@@DrWiley-fm3ik yeah, it’s a little more than that buddy haha think swampert might offer a little more to a team, than just being a tyranitar counter
