I've been a stills photographer also for 40 years but in the UK and mostly for TV drama. As a stills photographer, you never meet other photographers so it's a kind of lonely career. In fact you're really a one man/woman band on set. Most other crew members are part of a team. Interesting for me to know it's exactly the same for all stills photographers, except here in the UK we are not unionised and we can't charge for our equipment.

who cares about the resolution...its about the feeling...about what the image conveys...

@@ldhorricks The man is a professional STILLS photographer - clarity & resolution are required as lighting, dress definition are all needed to capture a still to compare to a film being shot. Emotion - feeling is conveyed via the movie being made via the script - the acting and director.

Can someone help me with the proper etiquette for still photographers? What is the proper energy and whatnot to have onset? I do some stills but when I ask onset no one really knows.

I watched this last night. After thinking about it, this seems like a largely frustrating and unrewarding job in photography. Everyone but you has control over your content --- and you never own any of it. It's not a career I'd choose to pursue. Anyway, thanks for the insights.

I never thought of it like that, very true. It still appeals to me though.
