So Investigation Markers can be revealed in the characters awareness radius (bottom on the card). Searchables can be revealed if the model is within base to base. Then the model decides if they want they want to interact which is an action. At least that is the way i read it.
I'll say yes he did manage to get the last one being far away from the fighting and because of how close he ended up next to it

Thanks for this, I really enjoy this series. Happy for this to be major win, seems like you had enough time if there had been another turn to grab the loot and go. I haven't checked so this is just off the top of my head, I think the loot rule for the Survivors you were thinking of is something like they can flip the token for free before deciding whether to interact with it. So they can see if there's an item/danger/etc there before committing to spending an action. Not sure how that would work with the objectives in this scenario. I'm also happy for the Sole Survivors to be called Nate/Nora in keeping with Fallout 4 but may I suggest continuing the theme that gave the robot it's name and instead call them Bruce and Celina? Harvey and Montoya? Something else along those lines?
I'm hyped for all of that, and the new stuff...but there is no demand for any Foww in my area, wish some yt could pump a game into my local neck of the woods.
