Dimmu Borgir means "Dark Castles" and refers to Iceland's lava field formation, where supposedly Lucipher fell down from Heavens after being banished, and created a portal between Earth and Hell.
As for suggestions - Insight and the Katharsis.

Dimmu Borgir is considered one of the best Black Metal bands. They are from Norway. Their name means "Dark Cities" or "Dark Castles/Fortresses" in Icelandic, Faroese and Old Norse. The clean opera style vocals are The Former bassist ICS Vortex. They are signed to Nuclear Blast records. This song is featured in one version of the trailer for the first Hellboy movie. You should check out a song by this band called "The Invaluable Darkness"

I love the Dimmu Borgir from the 90's and early 2000's the most. So much difference but the same brilliance.
Kings of the Carnival creation is one my favourite songs from them.
If you want to try real black metal, listen to 1349 (that's the name of the band) with Celestial deconstruction.

Fun fact: They used a piece of music by Dimmu Borgir in the trailer for the first Hellboy movie (2004) although, sadly, the song did not appear in the actual movie.
Maybe take a look at Hecate Enthroned - Pagan swords of Legend. They are a band I have admired since I was a teen, and a few years ago, I actually had the privilege of playing support for them TWICE... which was an absolute dream come true.

They are extreme black symphonic metal. They are signed with Nuclear Blast *. Many people say Dark Castle but SOME not all Norwegian fans say its more correct to say black castel/fortress.
Dimmu's Mourning Palace is amazing live and Gateways is AMAZING

Loads of bands from the early days of the scene evolved from the traditional scene, with incorporating symphonics.
also, Mortiis (from Emperor) and The Kovenant evolved from raw black metal into inudstrial and electro type metal.

Hmmm....Dimmu Borgir is a Norwegian symphonic black metal band. The name derives from Dimmuborgir, a volcanic formation in Iceland, the name meaning "dark cities" or "dark castles/fortresses" in Icelandic, Faroese(the Faro islands) and Old Norse. Yeah, dark shit, man. Heavy AF.

The band is Norwegian, the name comes from a region in Iceland. It means Dark castle. The style is called Norwegian symphonic black Metal. The band is assigned to Nuclear blast as far as i know.
You did react to this band before. I love this band, so so many amazing songs.
    - The Mourning Palace (live at wacken) with a orchesta and choir.
    - Puritania
    - Entrance
    - Sacrilicious Scorn (great video as well)
As for another band that i think has some obvious older dimmu influences in their new album. Dark Funeral. "let the devil in" its a little slower song with influences of "Sorgens kammer del II (by dimmu) or the song "Nightfall" which is just a blast.

Nightfall or Leviathan would be a great start to Dark Funeral.

They're symphonic black metal. You guys should check out some of their concert videos where they play with a full symphony and choir. Great shit.

Guys...you have to learn that powermetal is something Helloween/Stratovarius/Edguy...ish style of music (to.say some of the sort). This is Symphonic Black Metal. And the production of this video is very much like the level of many metal bands from the nothern part of Europe, where (in some cases) metal is a big thing and almost part of the popular culture.

Please check out the live version of their song Gateways (live FORCES OF THE NORTHERN NIGHT) because you'll see and feel the total Dimmu Borgir package.
Or just this song live ...

Love these guys. Supposedly they achieve their extra-heavy guitars in the studio by layering the track 4 times. All I know is I want a pair of those boots that they wear.
SUGGESTION: The Serpentine Offering. Like this song, it is AMAZING from beginning to end.

It’s actually called Symphonic Black Metal…. And it Rules!!! Lol!!! The lead guitarist actually described it as “a wall of sound” and yes… this is a damn good description!

As been said before, Mourning Palace (Live version) is friggin' amazing. As is Gateways (Live from Forces of the Northern Night) featuring Agnete Kjølsrud from the band Djerv. And of course the official video to the song Serpentine Offering (Dimmu Borgir).
