@@ahavens2463 you are right... but still, she retired and was not training anymore for a few years. But I am rooting for Gabby to make the Olympic team... what is really unprecedent is if Biles, Douglas and Lee all make the team. 3 Olympic all around champions in the same team would be very interesting.
@@ahavens2463 Your argument is silly. There is no logical connection between the fact that the post claims. The reason for her CP's return is irrelevant.
She actually got injured before the Beijing Games, so she retired in December. But didn't Ponor come back sooner? She also didnt miss two Olympics. This is the equivalent of her 2016 Games (her fourth Olympiad), where she wasn't in top shape, and her body was depleted. Of course, since Gabby hasn't been in the game for a while, she's no doubt healthier than Ponor was then, but still.
I wish her all the best! However with that being said, I doubt the selection committee will look very closely at her. Her lack of competition experience in the last how many years, does not compare to those who have been religiously training for many years. It will be interesting to see for sure!
I hope she's not counting on bars getting her a ticket to Paris though. They'll want to take a medal contender and there are several who fit that bill already.
@@MajorMajesticIce The obvious...Suni Lee and Trinity Thomas has won several medals on bars in Pan Am championships and NCAA. Trinity is underestimated IMO. If they took a bars " specialist" I think it would be Suni, assuming her other events are not as ready as she was in Tokyo. Skye is also great on bars.
Now if Gabby got her Amanar back I think that would be a game changer. But if Suni and Shilese are healthy and ready I think they go. Same with Simone obviously. Then there are factors like Trinity, Skye, Kayla and Leanne all great on bars and great AA factors. But specialists like Jade and Jocelyn Robertson who can also medal on events.
@@ahavens2463best thing is to see what Gabby does. Aside from Suni and shilese the other Americans on the team will not medal on bars if Neymour, Nina Derwhael and the Chinese gymnasts are so good this quad. As far as the other Americans mentioned- Skye is inconsistent, Trinity needs huge upgrades from her college routines to be taken seriously, Jocelyn is overhyped and didn’t score well at the past world championships. Kayla and Leanne are not competitive enough on any apparatus to get an individual medal- as mentioned bars is ultra competitive, I’d take Simone and Suni on beam, Simone and jade carey on vault and floor if jade proves to be consistent in the upcoming meets.
@@nicoles9077 Gabby has never medaled on bars. So why take her over someone else? Shilese has more of a chance to medal on bars because she did last Worlds. And there are other proven all-arounders to take.
@@leykimayri Yeah, you’re probably right. She’s definitely not prepared for big time competition, mentally or physically. She fell off the bars at the Core Hydration Classic tonight, then pulled out of the event. Seems like it was a mistake for her to try this comeback after 8 yrs away from competitive gymnastics.
@@semoneg2826 Just because she said it? In a since deleted Insta post? Without any official report from USAG? While she was back at gym on Monday? Really? And I am an astronaut just because I say it.
I can’t believe she changed to Lukin as her coach. He’s not a very compassionate coach at all. He tried Brazil and now back in the States. Gabby has to be perfect to get any empathy from Lutkin. Hope it goes well for her. Gymnastics has changed tremendously since 2016.
Gabby is a 3-time gold medal champion, her technique & form is close to perfect. She gets plenty of attention being the best prospect in that gym. She is also an adult woman, who can manage a lot of her training & recovery. Empathy from coach, Liukin is not one of Queen Gabby's concerns. However, if he has any pull he'd better use it. Skye Blakely isn't going to get him to Paris.
The USG had better give Gabrielle a fair chance. Its clear some resent her. But they better not try to "rig" the competition against her, hoping to shut her out! That will open a huge can of worms. The USG has enough scandal as it is they don't need the public blow back that will come their way. We Douglas fans will make life ugly for their faves. I will take the gloves off and show the claws. Fly Gabby fly! She will always be a Queen.
Seems very unwise of her to yet again drop her coaches without another lined up, or change coaches at all, this close to the Olympics. I think k that was one of her buggiest errors pre Rio Olympics as well. She is very wish washy when it comes to building a solid, consistent working relationship with elite coaches. Maybe she hasn’t found her perfect match, but changes should’ve been done with more time to acclimate to a new coach, as every coach has their own style. I think Chow was her best coach, had mama, money and fame not led her to a sense of entitlement and special treatment at Chow’s after London. He was not in the wrong in requiring Gabby to make a commitment and show that her comeback was serious and she could get back in shape, because it’s also a time commitment on the coaches end, and not unreasonable to want to know your athlete is dedicated and serious and willing to work as they worked before Olympic gold. I just hope she finds a coach she can work with and sticks with it, and can acclimate in enough time to peak for the Olympics. History has shown athletes who jump ship so close to their goal competition, struggle to adjust in time. I think it’s foolish, unless there is a really good reason for it, but shouldn’t be so close to her first competition back. She’s pretty flighty with authority.
Ok, having to look closely at why she did not make the AA finals in 2016, make no sense, Gabby was so much better than Ally and Ally was overscored on beam and Bars ..Even on days Gabby was not her best she never scored less than Ally on beam and bars. We are hard on Gabby and all the decisions she made over the years and yet she has proven so many times to be that star girl..and she will do it again just watch..
The USG is well aware of that reality. But thank you, for noting it. I knew Gabby has a LOT of haters in the gymnastic world. They know Simone is untouchable for now. Yet, if she messes up, they will crucify her. Without Simone, team USA won't medal. Sunni Lee if, by a miracle makes the team; she cannot hold off Rebecca Andrade, or Gadirova. Sunni isn't proven under pressure. Queen Gabrielle is needed on team USA. Poor Shilese can't hope threaten the powerful, polished & resilient Rebecca Andrade. She is a bronze medal at best. But then, Shilese could cave to Gadirova, Melnikova & the Chinese etc.. Gabrielle is in uncharted territory. Gabby understands that she has to hit everything and deliver cleanly. If not, the haters will sweep her aside.
Yeah.......NO. After what happened at the US classics, she's done. All she did was embarrass herself: fell on her first event\bars and then just quit and walked out!! Didn't even try her other events like beam, vault and floor. There's always some excuse for her.... COVID-19...a bad storm.... Can't arrive on time. Now she'll just be remembered for quitting & scratching her events. EMBARRASSING!!!
I hope gabby Douglas does well. She is a great well rounded gymnast. I’m not a fan of Simone biles. I don’t think she is that great aside from tumbling. Gabby always took time to excel in the sport without demanding high scores which is what Simone does.
Are you aware that Simone has CONSISTENTLY posted the HIGHEST execution scores along with the HIGHEST DIFFICULTY score over the years? Who else has performed similarly difficult routines like Simone and STILL post such executions scores? WHO? I will tell you, NONE! You don't have to like her but don't come on here and PRETEND that there is ANYONE who can match Simone's CONSISTENCY with respect to DIFFICULTY and EXECUTION. retiring, skip a quad and comeback to the next one is not unprecedent in gymnastics. Catalina Ponor did just that a decade ago.
