Wavetable #33 - [BA][SS]

[BA][SS] is a collaborative sound sculpture project by Boris Allenou and Shankar Saanthakumar. Together they explore how DIY mechanically driven drone and drum machines can be manipulated into soundscapes.
Boris’ instrument is a horizontal frame coupled with tiny electronic vibrating modules moving about the surface. This framework serves as a neutral surface, embedded with contact microphones that amplify its acoustic potential. When in contact with the frame the vibrating modules emit a continuous drone This is further enriched with evolving nuances triggered by pieces of wood, plastic, iron, and more acting as sound filters and modulators.
Shankar takes his first steps into sound with a dismantled piano. Old piano hammers are reassembled into a custom vertical frame and actuated with motors …hoping to create some rhythmic order from the noise…

Really great. I've seen quite a few similar experimental performances using objects, but not many with that level of sophistication!
