if i overlay the smart object of text and brush it becomes kinda too transparent :(

yall the reason why it isnt working for you guys is because your text is larger than the 36pt he used. If your text is larger you have to increase all the settings in the layer style, and the preview isnt going to look the same so just observe the text on the canvas as you play around with the layer style settings
