Glad you liked it. Lego is always the best in quality but their prices are not always affordable, especially lately. My goal is to build my city as cheap as possible
Totally. I understand where they are coming from, but Lego is so expensive and I'm still very early in my career so I don't want to spend too much on Lego, so this is where I end up!
Hi Michael! I'm an avid alt brand builder along with lego, and have bought MANY of these sets. They are an excellent way of helping increase our cities. I DO want to suggest however, that maybe you might want to alert your buyers that many of these designs are actually taken from ligit designers on rebrickable and such sites. Some...are original...but many like these have been reproduced without permission by the original artists. Having said that, I think for anyone who is on a budget there's nothing wrong with buying these, but if you do....maybe suggest to your followers to purchase to original instructions from the designers on rebrickable. That way, you can honour and support the designers, but also have affordable bricks to build with. I personally think this is a happy medium and an ethically better way to promote these. They're great builds and you can customise then so much. Glad ur doing alt reviews.👍👍
Just a heads up to you and anyone watching about to buy, me snd my daughter are starting city, not rich, and are “alternative” enthusiasts as well, and I just purchased both these same 2 sets, but I purchased the “Nifeliz” ones, instead of “nickbuild” ones, both companies make these same models, now could just be chance/coincidence, but all my parts are molded perfectly, I bought for my daughter for Xmas, and after watching this, and your short, I was nervous there would be few bad parts, so I opened and checked every bag 1 at time, so I could replace the bad ones and swap out before I wrap, and I ended up finding 0 bad parts🤷🏻♂️, I just noticed on Amazon both companies made them, but nifeliz seemed to have more established brand, and bigger line of sets, so I went with them, and glad I did, so thought I’d share the knowledge for anybody else about to buy
I am definitely not a lego purist and have shamelessly bought similar sets to fill out my bricktown. I have been eyeing this particular set for some time and your review convinced me it is worth picking up. I would also like to note I have bought two other sets from this company and had no problems with the parts. The minifigures are horrifying though and went straight into the bin.
That's good to hear! I'm glad there are more people in the community with this mindset than I thought. Make sure to pick it up soon if you do! It looks like they are running low on stock, at least on Amazon. I'm glad you had good experiences with this company. I also enjoyed it!
I think we may all agree since Lego has been crazy over-priced, it's okay to start looking at alternatives. Im already considering & pieces by themselves can be alot cheaper in bulk. Surprisingly enough there is decent brands out there. I just appreciate the creativity all around so why not. 🤷♂️
I own all 4 of these and have figured out if you put all 4 together as shown on the boxes and replace the bricks of the side walls that are doubled up to each other with regular bricks you have enough of the proper pieces with matching windows and type of bricks to enclose the back really easily.
I source off brand alot sometimes I find interesting pieces lego dosnt make I rather like hey its for my oun amusement and lego gets plenty if my money why not spread the love around a little
Fascinating, the Coffee Shop especially looks like what would happen if you tried to build a MOC modular building but half your collection was old classic LEGO pieces from the 20th Century. And the only minifigs you could find were your sister's half-melted Belville dolls. To be honest though, the fact you put their ribcage inside their torsos kind of sells it to me...
I bought one of these and agree you can’t beat the price for what your getting. I also came across errors but nothing that would make me want to return it. I like them not everybody can afford $400 for a real Lego building.
it would be really interesting if one day, lego lost its monopol and the companies would have to compete for the number one spot by making good quality but cheap sets
Just found your channel and love that you are covering "not-Lego" sets. These NickBuild sets were my first foray into "not-Lego" and for the price I was very impressed. I didn't have any misformed pieces but I do agree about the minifigs. I picked up all of the sets a couple years ago and they will be scattered throughout my Lego city.
Nice video. Loved the scary music for chair and people. I actually like the open-backed “dollhouse” style. Then again, I like dollhouses. Plus I have not started my LEGO city yet where I guess the lack of walls would affect the realism. I have no problem with brands and designs other than LEGO. I have more of a problem with people who just buy sets to resell at a higher cost.
the great thing about LEGO is that you can do it however you want! I am not a big fan of lego reselling, as I'm more into building so I totally get it. Thanks for the comment!
I like to think of these kinds of alternatives to LEGO as Mocs rather than simply knock offs. Mainly because they’re their own design. They aren’t a design ripped straight from a LEGO set.
I'm late commenting on this but the reason you did not find any video reviews is because they are made by Zhegao, can be found on Aliexpress and many other Chinese sellers websites. This company must have re-branded them under a different name to sell on Amazon. I've bought many of their sets for my city, they are fantastic. It was pretty cheap to and easy to slap them on base plates, finish the backs and modularize them. The figures are compete trash and go into my donate pile. If you like these i'd recommend getting the others, the price simply cannot be beat.
Kudos for covering brick products other than Lego. These sets won't win any prizes for esthetics--the architectural details and especially the color choices have nothing on the best Lego modulars--but Lego is hardly the only game in town, and we need someone to offer up smart, fair reviews of the many other choices out there.
Being that I’m a beginner building a city I do built Legos but I am going to build a city and I think this is the best way to start off for me because like you say Legos too expensive sometimes so I want to make sure that I want to continue building the city I’m bored or four buildings and I’ll be building them soon Nice video.
I’m ashamed, but I might cop. I just moved and don’t have as many lego rn, ima have to buy a couple of these to fill it out eventually I’ll have a lot of pure Lego but I think ima get alot of these. There’s so many options. They are beautiful especially with that price tag and free shipping!!! I personally leave the back open on purpose sometimes anyway.
There's no shame. If you think it looks cool, go ahead and get it. They are so affordable and I love the way they look in my own city. Lego is crazy expensive!
I understand why people bought off brand Lego sets, i've done it in the past. In my opinion some off brand brick company sometimes have a better design than lego, so i just buy the off brand for the instruction. But as far as building a city, using all lego pieces is much better for me, i sometimes part my set for a moc or even sell my used brick, it's an extra work to separate the off brand brick with the lego, especially with the technic pieces, 1x1 tubes, and also smaller tiles/slopes.
Also I've given thought to these myself sure ta could close up the backs Alternatively in any growing city one sides going to end up against a wall so they'd be suitable for that locational purpose in a layout
I got a coffee shop set its called block model city cafe from Amazon Canada its 48 dollars and no lego mini figures they have a few nore sets to add just like you did so yes cost is good no damage to parts ether im still working on it like a puzzle
It looks nice - not a fan of the open back though. My concern is that with Lego if you ever tire of it, and/or need the money, you can re-sell it and get back your money, generally at a profit. This includes used Lego too.
I think you'll love the other two sets if your all for pretty buildings. The missing back walls might deter some buyers, but I personally like that there's more room for movement and play. When I got my sets in the mail, I wasn't missing any pieces and there didn't seem to be any damage to them either. Over, I really like this brand and planning to buy the extended 'street corner' sets.
I'm thinking about getting alternative sets for existing sets like the modulars that have been made lately as well as the discontinued sets and putting more money into bulk parts or vintage sets as there is more (to me at least) to enjoy there
Also I forgot to mention your city looks amazing Cant wait to see it's final renditions and If I had to make a critique if I were to harbor any about your city or channel would be to add viewer suggested builds at some point in it's renditions and see about a patrion page to hold a system for the "viewer builds" might bring in more traffic!
