Thanks for showing us around the Indo food scene in NYC - just recently fell in love with Indonesian cuisine and I plan on checking out all the Indonesian spots up there! By the way, if you ever come down to Philly, I can show you around (esp the Indonesian restaurants/grocery stores - I know all of them!) - maybe do a co-host on your show or do a collab!

Thank you TJ for always being lovely and supportive for the small business, you are amazing! On the other note: I was so nervous talking about my own homeland’s food culture and had been away from home..I would like to revise on the KETUPAT aka rice cake, the pocket typically made from Coconut leaf instead..Sorry :)) but I hope you can enjoy the food tour as much as I did with TJ. And support your small community business - TERIMA KASIH 🙏🏽💜
I'm so glad Indonesian food is being represented and especially in Queens. New York City is arguably the greatest city on the planet not just because of its financial wealth but because of it's wealth of diversity and multiculturalism. It has food and people from all over the world. That mix creates enormous energy. That energy fuels creativity. That creativity brings success and wealth. You can't have the latter without the former. And it has always been that way. NYC got hit hard by this pandemic. So many were wounded by it. So many were lost. But it has weathered the storm. Keep going TJ. Keep exploring the food treasures of NYC in all its cracks and corners. Show us its vibrancy. Maybe then we'll fully understand why the Big Apple keeps drawing them in.
This is such a great mini tour of some of the Indonesian spots in Elmhurst. I've often wondered where to go and what to order and you've given me a few ideas. Thanks so much to you and Rika(?)!

Hi TJ! Love your videos! You always brighten our days. Queens has so much rich, multi cultural cuisine to offer. Thank you for sharing these gems from my borough 🙌
I love how overseas Chinese-Indonesian introduce Indonesian food with proudness.. don't know why... despite the negative perception from others about them, i'm very proud of them And I wanna say thank you so much🖤
I love Asian food and I love to cook it myself instead of going to a restaurant all the time but, Indonesian food... I will not try to make it because I think its difficult, so many ingredients for just one dish.
Give it a try! The first few months living by myself in The Netherlands was kinda hard for me as well, because I'm not accustomed to cook Indonesian food from scratch. Took me a few months to have trial & errors, with the right ingredients (even the packet seasonings or dried Asian/Indonesian herbs) you'll be able to recreate most dishes :) I can't say I'm the best home-cook, but I managed to come close to the flavours of home while being half the world away from home. If you need some useful cooking channels from actual Indonesian chefs, definitely check out Devina Hermawan (her videos have English translations)!
I'm so glad to watch this video. It's so good, fun, & enjoyable to watch. Thank you for the Indonesian food review. It's really appetizing. I'm waiting for your the next vlog
TJ! You're the Queen of Queens! Awesome video, especially this delving into niche cuisine and interesting ingredients. Please don't stop making food vlogs even after your TV career takes off!
Rice cake in Indonesia has different texture and different names, such as 'Ketupat, Lontong or Doclang'. They are made by rice that covered with coconut leaf, or plastic bag or a kind of banana leaf which steamed or boiled on high temperature.

Wow girl, to stomach all those foods... Kudos to your belly! 👏👏👏 And Rika, you did a wonderful job in explaining the foods and the preparations too. You make a great Indonesian food ambassador!
The indonesian salad that you had is called "gado-gado" not "ketoprak" (what your caption said). Ketoprak has different ingredients even though it also uses peanut sauce (and the peanut sauce has different spices than the gado-gado sauce).

Tj, i really like how you laugh.. mbak rika you are awesome.. but i have to correct a few things. 1st, at 21.17 it wasnt ketoprak but gado-gado. Ketoprak consisted of vermicelli, rice cake, tofu, bean sprout with peanut sauce topped with kerupuk. 2nd chef wang was right (of course he made it) it was serundeng. The rice cake in sate padang is actually called 'lontong'. Ketupat is actually a mix of white rice and sticky rice, seasoned with coconut milk, in a diamond shape. They usually serve ketupat with rendang in fasting month.
I know it is already 1 year ago...but if you dont mind...i would like to make a little correction about the rice cake. n Indonesia we use 2 kind of leafs to make a rice cake. First using banana leaf that we called as lontong and the second one is using coconut leaf...that we called ketupat. so if said using bamboo leaf is little bit wrong. And about the leaf at " nasi bungkus " is using cassava leafs that boiled ( its very hard to cook it...because it can be very hard to eat if you not cook it well. 😊
