Indic perspective on Equality between Spouses | Rati Hegde

  • A dharmic principle states that “Dharma, Artha, Kāma, Mokṣa” cannot be followed and achieved by either spouse without mutual respect and true equality. Nature has made man and woman different from each other in their physical, mental, and emotional self. Hence, it is grossly erroneous that everyday actions and events between spouses become a benchmark of equality. So let’s take a different look at equality of the sexes, this time from our scriptures.

    Great question about marital rape ..I feel these rules apply of spouse dharma applies when both follow it .otherwise one sided dharma opens up abuses of both psychological and physical nature .
    Just like vivekananda said spirituality takes a secondary importance when there is narcissistic abuse

      I mean vivekanda talked about physical hunger and poverty but emotional disturbances does not allow spiritual peace .
      I feel draupati as a example of she protecting her rights even when her 5 husband's were powerless is far more inspiring
