I was fortunate to be born & raised in Detroit & came of age celebrating the Motown sound & everything it symbolized. While in high school, 1968-1971, I came across a forward-thinking FM radio station out of Windsor, Canada (CJON?). Beginning at midnight, they played only pure jazz & blues (e.g., essential recordings by Pharoah Sanders). Discovering this music back then made an immediate & profound impact on me. It has shaped my worldview & my “search for the new land” ever since. The journey continues….
Pharaoh is an old soul. His music has lived many lifetimes over many miles. For me it was at at the jazz workshop in Boston at 21, then in Berkeley on a cross country trip. And back in Boston Scullers. Each time the vibrations passed through my entire body and made a permanent impression on me. I consider Pharoah to be along with Coltrane and Miles to be the holy trinity of jazz.
Pharaoh Sanders anointed by The Most High. He has moved on to be with the ancestor, leaving his music to illuminate the pathway for us to bring in The New World. Thank You for your Blessings.
Pharoah's evocative music has been an ongoing revelation for me since 1970. I was fortunate to catch his unique sound in different venues through the years, from Detroit to San Diego. Sadly, we've lost another jazz master, but Pharoah's profound musical legacy lives on. Timeless....
I was fortunate enough to see Pharoah Sanders open for The Grateful Dead in 1992 at Cal Expo in Sacramento. Phenomenal set!!! I also saw Ornette Coleman open for the Dead at Oakland Coliseum in '93 & he also sat in for an out "Other One".
I disagree with "This is the worst..." said by viborgu. However, the 320kbps encoding is severely crippled when uploaded to, and compressed by youtube, to its low resolution. That is where the noticeable artifacts come from. Still great music though! :)

Don't get me wrong, I love this song, I saw him play it live a few years back. But this version is not very good. I'm not an audiophile expert, I just know what I hear. If you listen closely to the high-end treble noises here, there's little defects you may notice that sound like clicks. Those were not part of the original recording. For comparison, here's an excellent live performance of the song

I saw Pharaoh live several times while living Seattle, many many years ago, and it was simply amazing. This is certainly one of my favourites.

TH-cam audio is severely compressed. Do yourself a favor, buy the vinyl or CD, like I did :)
