Someone please correct me here. Gas for cooking, heating, bbq's etc at home. Is that natural gas from the taranaki gas fields? Also, hospitals use gas for sterilization of operating equipment don't they? If I'm correct with that (why i asked at start to correct me), then it's not just power companies that need gas. What happens to private homes, restaurants, hospitals, rest homes etc that rely on or need gas for use?! Who will cover the costs of changing private and rest homes to convert back to electricity heating, cooking etc?! Importing natural gas is as bad as drilling for it or possibly worse. By the time ships bring it in from other countries, then trucked to storage facilities, then trucked around nz. Where's the logic of that?! I know there's a massive pipe from taranaki to auckland (saw part of it being put in ground mid to late 70's in area we lived in at time) so the gas was/is stored in auckland. Then distributed from there.
"massive pipe from taranaki to auckland" .... hey, that pipeline went along the farm boundary I grew up on. I remember it being built. Where's the logic? There is no logic. It rains constantly in NZ but hydro seems to be a dirty word in our country for some unknown reason so there has been little development since the Muldoon government of which our own Mr Peters was part of as a young MP.
@@michaelhagley4762 we had to go down the road a few k's to see it put in. That pipe was for the gas to go from taranaki to auckland IF memory serves correct. Correct me here please. It was possibly used to supply huntly power station as well? And yes, hydro is good in nz. Solar and wind are ok if weather conditions are good for them, like hydro. In saying all that. The infrastructure is NOT good for distribution (northland a prime example)
Thanks for your sensible questions Apparently from what I have heard & read, basically our Maui or Taranaki Gas supplies are pretty close to their end.I also understand that when licenses or options to drill for Oil & Gas were freely available that major players weren't interested, mainly because Geology & Science shows that it is not economic. There is an idea floating around that we may have to eventually import Gas?Therefore I am not sure what science Shane Jones is basing his rethoric on?
@@alistermacpherson7120 I'm no scientist and never claim to be. I'm not qualified in economics either. It is concerning that some of those mp's claim drilling in and around nz is bad environmentally yet they don't consider the other side of the coin of importing either. As for the economics of it all. Rest and private homes are struggling now. Hospitals (more to point, the health system) is grossly under funded now. As for the power sector. Huntly (possibly others as well) need gas as back up to increase supply on demand. The amount we'd have to import to maintain sufficient supply would be worse environmentally than drilling for our own. Also, who pays for imported products? Us consumers. And how many companies have shut up shop in the last few months alone because of high power prices?! It will get worse

When Rio Tinto finally closes the Tiwai Point aluminium smelter because they can no longer compete with the Chinese aluminium producers, there will be so much electricity we won't know what to do with it. @@trevorauld1039 Yes I remember reading a while ago about the technical issues getting that power north across the cook strait should Rio Tinto pull out of the smelter. Do you think it is a more viable option than Shane's bring back the multi national oil and gas companies?
- While you work on getting energy supply back to the country as Muldoon did so quickly with LPG and CNG /Hydro - You need to think about the two million immigrants we have let into the country and the future of immigration - Having returned from Singapore they have a system where out of the 5 + million living there only 2 + million are citizens and get a vote in the election - the other 2.5 million have residency do not have the right to the vote, this keeps the nation under the rule of the settlers/builder not the incoming masses and this is what a small country like NZ should be thinking of doing before our parliament starts looking at allowing Indian and Chinese in rediculous numbers through the borders - flooding the country in an unprecedented number. And if you want power for the short term, get the coal or LPG/Natural gas in the mix and build some power stations - Cheap abundant energy - China is leading the world in Nuclear /Coal/ and not thinking about UN carbon zero policies. Time to get action - and while you are it - the labelling of Nurse uniforms etc back to plain English and all the other departments for that matter and have a word with the mainstream media to Tai hoe on the indoctrination . Humans die of heat exhaustion at temperatures as low as 36 degrees at 100 percent humidity. We are biological organisms bound by the limits set by biological biochemical processes. Proteins start to denature, ie break down, at 60 degrees Celsius in any humidity. Biological constraints are non-negotiable. It may be convenient to assume that burning carbon and releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere is not connected to making the planet uninhabitable for multicellular life, but such assumptions are made in the absence of reality. It is sad to have the people represented by 'leaders' who have the ambitions not dissimilar from single cell organisms. Figures were released about the royalties from mining which are miniscule compared with what other countries charge. One can only assume the Ministry responsible for mining is run directly by the mining companies themselves. Who else could create such a permissive regime that plunder the country with no positive outcomes. Except for, oh we can work in their kitchens run by foreign investors, and wash their overalls in laundries run by foreign investors. Good one Freddy Shane Jones. That is really innovative, entrepreneurial, and aspirational.....for a single cellled organism.
Thay had a hand in making things the way thay are. Now the creators of the problem are going to fix it.and the solution thay will offer will be to sell it to. Outside interests. Just like the small farmers. That caused many to take their own lives.
This minister ignored housing nz evidence based response to the governments enquiry in housing nz. The expression he uses applies to this confused government.
In fairness to Adhern, her blockade of oil and gas didn't impact oil exploration. It might even have stimulated the Taranaki local producers with a monopoly on supply, to find more. NZ just isn't appealing for oil and gas exploration beyond the existing infrastructure. So 'who will invest' anyway. There is more appetising places to invest. i.e. Namibia, India, China, et al. The bigger issue is 'tax regime', if not subsidy., for the producers in Taranaki.

@@kenbearsley8322 I remember my brothers and I walking on top of the pipe in a huge trench before the pipe was covered over. The mountain stream at the back boundary was curved by two big diggers. I doubt anyone could get resource consent to do such a thing today.
Well said Shane, I dearly hope Marston Point be reopened.
However, why aren't you and Winston Peters helping Brad Fluty who is in prison for doing the right thing for all New Zealanders at Marston Point.
Not once since NZF been to Marston Point since been in Parliament.
A business that operates in Timeru for 135 years is shutting down as privately owned farms have reduced production.
Music to the ears.
Yes 😊
Here Here Mr Jones
As long as its not given away to foreign companys and a few walk away with a pat on the back.
NZ Should be able to do a lot of the infrastructure needed themselves this country should be better off than Saudi Arabia really.
If more solar units on homes existed, then during the current situation would exist. 2009 to 2017 showed a few, but from 2017 to 2023 50,000 units were installed.
Drill Baby, Drill !

thanks, did not know what i was going to do as i have gas running my house
❤ you devoting your wholeheartedly to recovering New Zealand’s energy self sufficiency as the gas for electrical power generations are more effectiveness with lesser environmental impacts, also the future trend of Artificial Intelligent development and applications are very much power consumption even we claimed as an Agricultural Country, still needs energy for farming too unless an ideology’s leadership ignore the current technology changed

When Rio Tinto finally closes the Tiwai Point aluminium smelter because they can no longer compete with the Chinese aluminium producers, there will be so much electricity we won't know what to do with it. Instead of planing for this likely outcome, Shane is going to take us down memory lane to the 1970's when I remember as a kid the excitement of the truck outside our country house in Taranaki shaking the ground searching for oil and gas.
Never happen wrk on two different voltages and frequencies
And your point is?
This will never happen the writer is a green nut
@@trevorauld1039 Yes I remember reading a while ago about the technical issues getting that power north across the cook strait should Rio Tinto pull out of the smelter. Do you think it is a more viable option than Shane's bring back the multi national oil and gas companies?
@@michaelhagley4762 drill baby drill, hydrocarbons are the future. Global warming is a ponzi scheme
Have faith in NZ First
There are lots of wind turbines could go on homes . Improvements are happening constantly.
Minister just said the government closed marsden Point. That's not true. It was a private business that shut down.
Not bad, if you set Playback speed at 1.5 x.
So what was in the brown paper bag when the lobbyist you (Shane Jones) call to come visit, as we're (I'm) open for business.
Yep ruin our whenua Shane

It did impact my price of gas bottles it doubled over night
Thanks so much for your excellent comment,NZ IS OF very little interest to Oil exploration companies, but Shane just doesn't get it.
@alistermacpherson7120 I'm a capitalist. But foremost, I'm a realist. Either side of politics is bad. I hate the false dichotomy posed by both 'race baiting' sides. Haters of humanity.
All money hungry people on here. They all talk but eventually not a lot gets done. Shane making claims again but mark ny words not a lot will get done. This co Gov regime is no different

Stop following the US and honor the indigenous people who belong to this land. Equality Racially, Economically, Academically, Financially, Spiritually and Healthcare.
The Maori, if that's who you are referring to, are not 'indigenous'. And they have equality - that's what the Treaty was all about - 'we are one people'. Problem seems to be that the activists want more than equality.
