This man speaks logical sense, anyone with a little bit of intelligence can see that. If we do not follow this commonsense line towards future energy in this country, we are destined to disaster. And i am not personally an admirer of Shane Jones or Winnie for that matter, but i do respect commonsense in any form for our future. Veteran. 84yo. New Zealand.

Housing, price was not affected in last 6 years due to building materials in main. These building material costs affected private housing costs also. He failed to say they pausing of the construction of government houses will affect the supply of houses. Opps!
He failed say the building permits approved have suddenly dropped dramatically. In 5 years 2018 Auckland's population grew 5.3% and the number of dwellings increased by 11.3%. Across the country, this was the case.

If virtue signallers feel the need that they must include the cuzzy/bro name as well it should be in smaller lettering to avoid confusion. This was about the then Govt showing off woke credentials, not falsehoods. Careerism. There was a local bid, fronted by the excellent Labour MP for Northland (!yes!) which Jacinda and co turned down.

The minister did suggest the rate of royalties will be increased as current the rate is about 4%.

I'm surprised the consequences weren't obvious to them at the time. When I read that the Marsden pipework was being backfilled with concrete, I sold my V6 and bought a small car. A couple of months later Putin invades Ukraine and petrol hit $3.50/Litre.

Shane, thank you for getting on with the job of energy security. The ball was seriously dropped by the previous govt, they have left NZ very vunerable. Climate extremist's have no idea of the real world. Cost's have gotten so far out of control it is hurting many people, it did not have to be like that.Spend and plan wisely from now on.

My coment is it was a Great Speach form a Great Man who can deal with the Realities we all face. My real concern is it should be compulsary when Parliament is sitting for All Politicians to be there listening to every speach. That is their job, not having lunch and wasting everyones time.

Agree with you Shane in what you said. Let's be honest, will Marsden Point refinery ever be rebuilt?. It can be done but who in this current parliament has the political will to push it through and make it happen.

Good points Shane. The infrastructure to ensure these Granny flats don't float on down the river in a repeat of cyclone Gabe is vital.
