  • The city of Wells in Somerset is not the smallest city on England. The city of London is smaller both by are area and population. This video features the town of Wells with its medieval architecture, history, bustling market and the wells of Wells that run crystal-clear through the fountain in the marketplace to flow down the gutters on both sides of the High Street.
Future videos will concentrate on the iconic cathedral and Bishop,s Palace. This video concentrates on the town itself, the palace gardens and moat as well as the bustling market which dates back to the 12th century before exploring the oldest residential street in Europe - Vicar’s Row.

Thank you - especially for the "Sir"! I've done Brixham in Deveon but where else would you suggest from Somerset?

Great, and I look forward to the follow-up. It reminds one of Anthony Trollope's Barchester/Barsetshire.

Thank you. There is something about Barchester here. The cathedral video will arrive by the weekend. Enjoy.

Thank you, I was going to bemoan the loss of the Bookshop to the right of the Bishop's Eye until I saw the Market Book Stall. Wells on a Saturday was my treat to myself when I was at Downside, sang in a joint Carol Service and a DIY Messiah at the Cathedral 40 odd years ago. Apparently there are three distinctive Wells, one at least for the Moat which feeds the Marketplace, the other two? A few years ago the Moat was drained and cleaned so perhaps for information there.
If you are able and can find a perch, perhaps a long time lapse video of the Saturday market, a Swan's Eye view:)

The Wikipedia article on the city of wells explains the three wells - two for the Bishop’s Garden moat and d the other for the marketplace fountain from where it runs down the gullies of the night street. Glad you liked it

Nice of you to mention St Cuthberts, shame you didn't go in.
Love Polly's stall, have spent a little too much there though.

Thank you. You have encouraged me to go back and concentrate on St Cuthberts. As you say. I rather skipped over it last time.
