  • Rapido's new HO scale Husky Stack well car comes with two 53' containers. Stack trains are a common sight on today's railroads, so this car is sure to be popular. Dan evaluates the car's packaging, prototype accuracy, paint & detail, and how well it operates and conforms to applicable standards. Dan also takes a look at the containers, and how well they work with other containers on the market!

    This model definitely can be improved upon, especially in the fine detailing department. That’s the perfectionist in me talking.

    Nice review! I just picked up a few of these the other day. 1 in CP paint, with CN/CP containers, one with the new TTX logo with the same containers shown here, and the other with the old TTX logo. Can't wait to get home and add them to my intermodal train!

    Great review Dan! I'm surprised that the end grab irons had to be installed by the modeler.

      It would be better if they were already there, for sure. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the good review. I had to take 100 points off of mine, when my buddy rear-ended me with a Flexi-Van Train, going probably 90 Scale MPH & the car hit the floor

    Despite the minor issues I’m considering looking at getting 3 or 4 of these for my first intermodal train. I think it’s a pretty good value as many intermodal cars don’t have containers included with them, however a little bit of the rivet counter in me might not like find some of the included containers suitable for the setting of my layout, as I plan to recreate certain domestic and international stack trains. Nice review Dan!

    Well looks like the Rapido well cars do have die cast bodies like the Walther's cars! Guess I should have listened to your review closer Dan, lol! As I said in my other comment it's a nice model and with a die cast body I might give this one a chance.

      Catching up on comments... I wish all well cars and flatcars had a lot more metal in them to get the weight up to spec. I don't really like relying on loads for weight, though sometimes it's the only option. Thanks for watching!

      @@DanielCortopassi agreed, plus the plastic bodied well cars are far more fragile than their metal counterparts, especially the Atlas well cars.

    Great review Dan, reflect stripes are missing in some from both end of the model. As I had seen well cars in person while Stanton and moving. But nevertheless it's great model

    • @DanielCortopassi
      @DanielCortopassi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Reflector stripes became mandatory in 2005, if I recall. My car had a build date of 2003, so the paint scheme might be accurate as delivered. Thanks for watching!

    This was a great video. Though personally I would have had to taken a few more points for unmarketed extra work. Especially when it didn't have the instructions. But all in all I agree with your assessment.

    • @DanielCortopassi
      @DanielCortopassi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some instructions would have been nice. Maybe they think a lot of people won't bother with the grab irons. Thanks for watching!

    Will these drag on EZ track curves?

    • @DanielCortopassi
      @DanielCortopassi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have an EZ track to test it on. I would think that as long as the curves aren't too tight it would work fine. I don't see a stated minimum radius on the Rapido website, but most equipment will work on a 24" or bigger curve. Thanks for watching!

    Too new for me but seems like a good deal for Rapido. Most of their items tend to run on the higher price side. Maybe they lowered the price due to the reduced details on the car ends. Nice review.

    At around 2:46 into the video there looks like some orange peel effect in the yellow paint on the side of the car. A shame this model has some flaws as I have some of Rapido's cylindrical hoppers and they are great. I think I'll stick to Walthers well cars. They are heavy and look and ride well.

    • @DanielCortopassi
      @DanielCortopassi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is some roughness to the finish in spots. I didn't mention it because it doesn't really show up that much when you're just looking at the car. Zoomed in video and bright studio lights tend to highlight any flaws. Thanks for watching!

    • @DanielCortopassi

      Now that you mention it, I think I have a sound equipped refrigerated container somewhere. I got it a few years ago. I'll have to look for it. Thanks for watching!

    I thought the car is ok, not bad' like you did. The car is ok for the price. It runs & looks good in a train. There may not be a prototype for the containers, read that somewhere. they look good in a train with other containers.

    • @DanielCortopassi

    What is that number 76 you used to drill into the model?- I may want to use something like that for my custom building of a AC44C6M

    • @DanielCortopassi
      @DanielCortopassi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Small numbered drills are great for modeling. They can sometimes be hard to find. Most hardware stores don't have bits that small. You can do a search and find size charts on the internet. The bigger the number, the smaller the drill. 80 is the smallest I've seen, which is like a small needle. I find the drills in the 70-80 range are great for modeling. I've sourced small numbered drill bits on eBay, micro-mark, and at my local hobby shop. Thanks for watching!

    Very nice models, but I think I will stick with Walther's intermodal cars simply because their cars are made of metal. I mean you could just about crash those things through a brick wall and not damage them!

    those car end grab irons looks painful to install, especially with no pre-drilled holes. also don't like the fact Rapido do not give you a choice with the paint scheme of the containers. Anyways I am new to the intermodal, so these cars at least give me a quick way of getting into the container transport business.

    • @DanielCortopassi
      @DanielCortopassi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Catching up on comments... the grab irons were a little tedious to install. It would be nice to have some more options with the choice of containers. The cars should fit other HO scale containers, though, so they could be swapped. Thanks for watching!

    The BNSF container is not accurate. All of BNSF's 53' containers have exterior posts. The Athearn, Kato, and Intermountain 53' containers are all accurate for BNSF.

    • @DanielCortopassi
      @DanielCortopassi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's disappointing. I'd rather Rapido used accurate paint schemes for the container they modeled. Thanks for watching!
