  • Why is it important to check for Drones in a bee hive?
In this video I inspect a few colonies to check and see if there are drones in them. Why? You'll have to watch to find out (but technically I reveal that it is to see if I should make a late season split or not, pretty early in the video). =)
    Thank you for watching!

      Loved Chris LeDoux!
We actually saw his son Ned play back in September of 2022 here in Texas. Sounded a lot like his dad.

Love that twist method to brake a box free. 300!! Nice 👍

Hey Rickey, Seems like I've had a lot of that burr comb lately. They always seem to draw that comb out where you want it least. I can't believe I have 300. Really surprised it ever crossed 50 subs. Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend.

I have 3 queens left from 2020, I kept an eye on them and they were doing amazingly. (1 got broken down into splits and recovered from 2 frames I left her to drawing and completely filing 18 new ones) the other 2 gathered 30 GALLONS of honey. I will likely replace them next summer but I made sure those 3 queens had daughters.

I hear ya Alex. Sounds like you've got some good ones going. I have split and grafted from this same Queen that I'm referring to in the video, and they're doing really well too, but I like to take as many as I can right from the source if possible.

Have you ever found any of your drone congregation areas? Must admit, I've never even looked.
Thanks for the reminder I have to order more drone frames!

Hey Mike. I never have. I've wondered how to find out where they are. I do think I have one close by though because in the Spring anyway, my Queen mating % is pretty good. I'll have to look into that now that you've sparked my interest.

Hmm🤔That one of my swarm catches #5 is in the process on requeening it's self atm with supersedure cells, hope there is enough season left up here. I saw my Italians dragging a drone with a torn wing off landing board the other day, hadn't seen anything like that before. See they are filling the bottom of your with honey to, don't the bees read the books, it goes up top lol. So how much does the clipped wing in your opinion help with swarming? Do they still swarm and not go far because she doesn't fly well? Ty Tex for sharing your time, Blessed Days...

Hey DC! Sure wish those bees would read the books. LOL. Either that or the bees should write one for us to read. You are exactly right. With the clipped wing, they'll still swarm, but they just won't be able to go far. Thanks for stopping in.

Hey Keith, Thank you sir. I'm really surprised I got more than 50 subs to tell you the truth. I sure wish they had some drones, but it is what it is. I'll just have to take good care of her until next Spring. Thank you for watching and commenting. God Bless!

If your queen production turn out well in the spring. I may be interested in getting a couple from you. If that's something you would do.

@@larimorefarms I'll have to check with the Texas Apiary Inspector and see what's required for me to ship Queens out of state. If I remember correctly I think they charge a per state fee, so it might be more than I'm ready for at the moment.

@@dennisbarney869 Ok. Good. I was sure thinking we had that conversation.
Congrats on the swarm catch! That's great!
I am bad about getting swarm traps set out and baited. I need to get on that.
      Good luck this year Dennis!
