You can not be taken serious Alita is one of the best looking 4k movies period It also has HDR10+ and Aquaman is amazing and for it not to even make your list makes me question if you even know what you are talking about.
I wouldn't argue with anyone. I think your picks are pretty legit. Yes aquaman and alita are very good 4ks. They made #1 on other reviews. But I like hearing about different top #1 4ks. Gives us consumers a chance to observe opinions of the reviewers take on them before we make a purchase. You're doing good man. Keep it up
Vincent Smith it’s annoying because other reviewers on here do get their copies in from studios as well but they don’t get criticized for it because they don’t talk about it. I’m open about it all.
I picked up 4K Aquaman, Ready Player One, Robin Hood, Transformers Last Knight, Hostiles, X-Men Dark Phoenix, It Chapter 1, Justice League, Overlord, Gravity and Wizard If Oz. Really got my 4K collection going finally!
I also own Alita on 4k. I really enjoyed it and I think it deserves a sequel. I thought the movie ended too abruptly, as I was really curious what the sky city Zalem would look like. It's a shame we didn't get to see it, so I'd love to see a sequel that'll show off Zalem.
@@ijslandernl Yeah James Cameron wanted this movie to get a trilogy. That's the reason for it. I don't know how it'll work now with Disney buying out 20th Century Fox and all their properties. There's also a petition on change. org asking for an Alita sequel. Has almost 150,000 signatures.
I saw the Apocalypse Now Final Cut in a Dolby Atmos cinema here in germany and it blew me away ... i mean the visuals are nice in 4k but the Sound ...man when the Napalm Exploded the whole cinema Was vibrating ... it was so loud dude ... it convinced me how important good Audio can be !
Nice List But 2001: A Space Odyssey 4K release was 12/18/18. The film originally came out in 1968. But definitely an incredible release, the picture quality looks phenomenal. Always to be expected with any Stanley Kubrick. I would love to see Eyes Wide Shut and Full Metal Jacket get a 4K release.
I didn't think a movie could look BETTER than it did in a theater. But E.T. in a theater in 1982 was a third or fourth-generation print dragged across the projection room floor. E.T. in 4K was lovingly transferred right from the first-generation 35mm camera negative, for unbelievable you-are-there clarity, rich colors and deep blacks! Cinematographer Allen Daviau, if he's still with us, must be very proud!
As someone who just started this year getting into physical media your channel has given me a lot of great recommendations of films that really show off the power of 4K. I think Apocalypse Now has the top spot for me, but so many transfers/restorations have made months old and decades old movies alike look visually stunning, Keep up the great videos!
Hey Buddy , I just came across this ..I do subscribe to your channel anyway a little while ago ..and without looking at the comments below I just wanted to watch your top 10 list .firstly yes I absolutely agree with The Shinning I may have put that 2nd place but you dad have some serious contenders before it . I am 40 years old and had only ever watched 2001 Space OD a handful of times over 20 years or so .However I did grab it when it came out as a digital download back in 2018 . To be honest it absolutely rendered me speechless !!! To an extent that I became a little emotional about it after I had watched it 1st time on 4K HDR. I have watched many many folder films rescanned into 4K from Ghost Busters to Close Encounters ..to Red Heat to Allien to Halloween 40th anniversary Batman 4K 1989 I saw that in Cinema 1992 Batman Returns 4K I would go to an extent to say this is a truly faultless transfer in every aspect . I understand that it was filled in 1968 with the finest quality film/negatives available Super Panavision 70mm which must have cost an absolute fortune at the time . I watched it on a Saturday evening and just could not believe what I was watching the sheer amounts of details alone were just stunning awesome draw dropping run out of words ...when you saw the computer screens in the cockpit you could comfortably sit down and actually read what was on the screen . I was like HOLLY CRAP !!!. This film is 50 years old !!!! . It will be near impossible for any film for now or the next sevral years to beat this transfer they may come close like The Shinning but no way exceed it . In the last 6 months I have watched the film 6 times that more in 20 years or so . Peace Out from London UK .
I still own the DVD unmatted version of 'The Shining.' Although it's DVD quality full-frame (4:3), it is not pan & can. It's more revealing in the upper an lower areas of the frame. According to the liner notes, it's what the Director requested. Stanley was still alive, and he just have thought rather than pan & scan 4:3 ratio, he asked the widescreen matting be removed from the 35mm original, revealing a fuller-frame cinematography (you see more of the beautiful ceilings in all the large room shots). Wish they'd included that frame version as an option on the great 4K.
I just got the Kubrick Box set with The 4K 2001 and The Shining editions included in the box set the rest of the films are on Blue Ray. I felt I was sitting on my own directors chair when watching 2001 it is awesome. I watched it on a QLED TV
Love all your content bro. And that's a pretty strong list. I do think your love/bias for the older restorations made you keep Aquaman off the list. That film is a 4K HDR Audio powerhouse. There were definitely a lot of good releases this year though. Long Live Physical Media ✌🏾❤️
I like your final 4 choices in particular. Great list. I know someone else who raves about his 4K UHD version of 2001: A Space Odyssey. I bought some excellent Blu-ray Discs this year, but I chose them for the quality of the film and not because they really pushed the limits of audio or video quality. There were 3 new movie releases which I really liked this year on home video: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, an Israeli comedy called “Tel Aviv on Fire”, and a new Polish movie released by Criterion on Blu-Ray called Cold War. All of the rest of my blu-ray purchases were older films from 1937 through about 1983.
The shining was amazing in 4k. Looks like it was shot in this year. Also just got hostiles and that looks great. Got wizard of oz form xmas so I cant wait to check that one out.
Hey man I've really been enjoying your videos over christmas. I'm pretty new to 4k blu Ray's. You have a cool laid back style and great information. Cheers.
Your video on 'Apocalypse Now' enticed me into buying the 40th anniversary on 4K. An amazing 4k Blu-ray & I got it for $12 on Amazon brand new! Love your channel Jeff, great job! 😁
The Shining was an amazing transfer. Kinda curious, does the Suspiria 4k come with a Blu Ray version or is it just special features? Great list by the way.
Great content...love your enthusiasm and dedication. I would have put alien and wizard of oz in the top 10 myself. Agree with you on 2001, the shining, and apocalypse now.
I was almost sure you were going to have Wizard of Oz at number one. The 80th anniversary edition seems to have rave reviews. Are you planning on picking it up? (2001 A space Odyssey looks epic too!)
Amazon right now has a two 4k for $ 30 deal. I got Blade Runner and 2001 ( already have The Shining and Apocalypse Now). Unfortunately for me, I'm into mainly older motion pictures and they are underrepresented so far in the 4k format. Many of my favorite films will never get even a DVD release, let alone anything better. I have to resort to foreign releases and certain underground suppliers to obtain even watchable copies of some of my desired titles. Of course, the search is a big part of the fun of collecting these old films, so I'm not complaining. Keep up the good work, and please include as many classic films as you can ( I can see what's on the shelf behind you that you like the older movies, too).
Kudos for picking 2001 has the number 1 spot. Just order apocalypse now and the angry birds 2 both on 4k. Got yesterday the speed racer collection. Penny dreadful. The x files complete collection. Those were on bluray. A nice surprice after spending 5 days in the hospital. The only one that i didnt care about on your top 10 list was the toy story 4. Have a great new year. Enjoy yourself. It seems that i will be closing this year with a total of 964 movies added to my list. Enjoy your reviews.
Very pleased to own and enjoy the top three on your list! Santa obviously loves me; he brought a 4k player (UBP-X800/2) for me and I'm loving it! You are so right; movies shot on real film look mind-blowingly good rescanned in 4k!!
I imagined sitting like david bowmen eating and watching tv on his monolith tv by Panasonic. David appears saying its full of stars. Then promo comes on and says Get Starz for 2 years for a limited time
I work in film and visual fx and no digital content will be 4k native but anything recent will be HDR. We looked at rendering the final images at 4k and found it cost prohibitive but since we work default in HDR and clamp for final output, we can go back and easily convert to HDR with little to no effort but will never re render ( the computer generating the final image ) because it takes hundreds of hours to even render at 2k. I have never been on a full cg movie like angry birds or frozen and ever rendered at 4k...so they will all be upscaled to 4k from 2k.
Close encounters of the third kind is what I'm getting as it's my favorite speilberg film asides from E.T and jaws and I hear it looks excellent in 4k.
4K and 3D in the same package?! Why don't we have these in Europe? I love 3D and also 4K HDR. I'd love to have them in the same package and save some money. I have bought many movies in 3D and 4K separately.
I got 2001 4k for Christmas, Watched it yesterday Twice. Phenomenal. It comes with 3 disks, Bluray, 4K and extras, look under the Bluray disk for the additional disk The Shining is also a fantastic release on 4K. Looking forward to Doctor Sleep 4K version. I preordered it from Amazon.😃👍
Good top ten list. As to me, I am also eager to get the 4K Blu-ray of : - Lawrence of Arabia - Barry Lindon If the job is as good as that for the original Blade runner, on both picture and soundtrack with Dolby Atmos, it will be awesome !!
Genuinely surprised Godzilla King of the Monsters isn’t on here for its ATMOS alone, that’s sound is 10/10. Oh well here is hoping for Jaws to be on the 2020 list
Alien needed to be on that list. Black Hawk Down is simply stunning. When it comes to animation, I'd run with the original The Lion King. The wide colour makes this movie look as good as it did on film. Totally agree with your other choices that I have bought, many based on your recommendation. Keep up the good work.
Bar ringu, angry birds and toy story, this is almost my top10 4K blu rays based on pic quality. John wick 3, lion king (movie) and wizard of OZ... maybe aquaman would be in mine.
Just received a treasure troves of over 300 dvds and blu-rays ! Man , that box was heavy ... Anyways , it contains the Original Star Wars Trilogy on dvd , only The Empire Strikes back is missing & the 3rd prequel is there . I hope it wasn't originally shipped that way ...Edit : after digging in the treasure I found the missing episode 5 , plus all the prequels ! Now to see if theses are the enhanced or not ...

Steven Spielberg oversaw the restoration of the Shining and Christopher Nolan oversaw the scan and grading for 2001: A Space Odyssey btw.
I had the privilege of seeing 2001 in 70mm in 1970 at the Tampa Theater. 2001 is the first 4k movie I bought when I got my LG C9.
thats frickin rad!
Gravity on 4k?
Ghost in a shell / Blade runner 2049 4K Blu-ray must haves
Pat H Gravity should have said Blu Ray/3D combo for $1 new!
Glad to see ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL make this list! Highly underrated movie that deserves more love. Only way we'll get a sequel.

@@OliverQueenMC Thanks, I didn't know that.
Oliver Queen I liked the 4K but what was really great was the 3D. A real plus when you get both.

Yeah I should have mentioned it. It didn’t make my list in 2018 I believe because I got it so late.
Films at home next year you should make a video about how a movie gets transferred to 4K/how they remaster movies that would be very interesting
Thumb up for Alita.
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial 35th Anniversary Limited Edition in 4K ULTRAHD Blu-ray looks amazing over the Blu-ray disk
Thanks Richard Munson, for the quick review on E.T! I was thinking about grabbing this on blu-ray. Now, I'll get it in 4k!
Got for dirt cheap last Black Friday and it was a great purchase. 4K really is the definitive way to watch E.T.
Agreed E.T. in 4k looks like a whole new movie a big improvement.
I didn't think a movie could look BETTER than it did in a theater. But E.T. in a theater in 1982 was a third or fourth-generation print dragged across the projection room floor. A fantastic list. I'd have included 'Alien' as well.
Alien looked awful. It was basically the Blu-ray version with the contrast and brightness all the way down to zero
Alien and I think 2001 both are 2018 releases. Johnny Alien with HDR looks great, might be your TV and player need to be calibrated
