R.I.P. Helen Reddy. Her fantastic version of "Delta Dawn" should be your next reaction. Other hits include: "You And Me Against The World", "Ain't No Way To Treat A Lady", "Leave Me Alone", "I Don't Know How To Love Him" and, of course, "I Am Woman'.
from Wiki - The song tells the story of Angie, a young girl who "lives her life in the songs" she hears on "rock and roll radio", her mental disturbances led to her being removed from school and having no friends, leaving her to spend most of her time listening to the radio, imagining lovers entering her room and then disappearing when her father knocks on the door. One day, a neighbor arrives at Angie's house with intent to do her harm, but once he enters Angie's room he is disorientated by the loud music. The song then turns surreal when, as Angie turns the volume of the radio down, the boy begins to shrink and is pulled into the radio. The closing verse describes the disappearance of the boy and the townsfolk's speculation that he was dead, but nobody asks Angie for an explanation; she says that the boy has become her "secret lover.
@shyman99 On a first listen, it's easy yo miss lyrics when you are talking in the song as a while. Jay often misses most of the lyrics as he is listening to the bass, drums or guitar.
I LOVE Helen Reddy! Ain’t No Way to Treat a Lady, Emotion, I Don’t Know How To Love Him, Candle on the Water, You and Me Against the World, Keep on Singing, and of course, Delta Dawn.
I've always loved this song for it's incredible and eerie storytelling. The late Alan O'Day, who wrote this song, had quite the knack for storytelling. His own hit "Undercover Angel" is something else! I believe he also wrote "Rock and Roll Heaven" by the Righteous Brothers.
Alan O'Day wrote this eerie and wonderful song, performed to perfection by Helen? Even more respect for him, which I have had since Undercover Angel, one of the 70's catchiest tunes!
I am constantly impressed that Amber picks up on the story line the first time she hears a song like this. As a reward to Amber, make you next Helen Reddy stop be "You and Me Against the World," a Mother-Daughter anthem.
One of my Helen Reddy favorites. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the story. Her vocals are just right for this song - haunting yet vibrant. Close your eyes when she sings "never to be found" and it makes you wonder just what happened to her "visitor" ? A question that is left to ones imagination.
My mom absolutely loved Helen Reddy. She had this particular album on vinyl and this was one of her favorite songs. This Friday, Dec. 8th. marks her passing since 1981, where she was killed in a car crash. I miss her so much. 🥺😓💔💔
More songs by the Australian artist Helen Reddy: "I Don't Know How to Love Him", "Delta Dawn", "Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady", "You and Me Against The World", "Leave Me Alone (Ruby Red Dress)", "Peaceful", "I Can't Hear You No More", there are others but these are good ones to start with.
Helen found more success in the USA then she did here at home in Australia. Yes, she was fairly successful here, but the US market was more her style. When Helen emerged onto the scene, Australia was more onto stuff like Skyhooks, Hush, Sherbet and other local rock bands.
I have always loved this song so much! When I was a kid my mom had the record. She would shake her head and laugh at me because I would sit by the record player and listen to this song over and over again. I grew up listening to Helen Reddy (among others) and I just love her voice!❤
@@leahsunbury9639I was 10 when this song was a UK hit,but I do remember listening to my lodger's coipy of Band on the Run repeatedly not long before that. I liked the dark, mysterious, almost sinister story of Angie Baby that she put over so well in song.

Helen Reddy was the first Australian artist to top the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and she had three US # 1 hits with Angie Baby being the last one. It topped the chart for one week on December 28th 1974. Reddy was a big star in the US in the 1970s but her career winded down in the 1980s. She died on September 29th 2020 at the age of 78. RIP.
from Wikipedia: During the 1970s, Reddy enjoyed international success, especially in the United States, where she placed 15 singles on the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. Six made the top 10 and three reached number one, including her signature hit "I Am Woman".[3][4] She placed 25 songs on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart; 15 made the top 10 and eight reached number one, six consecutively. In 1974, at the inaugural American Music Awards, she won the award for Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist. On television, she was the first Australian to host a one-hour weekly primetime variety show on an American network, along with specials that were seen in more than 40 countries.[5]
When I was young my mother took me to a Helen Reddy concert which was really my first major concert. All of her songs still remind me of my mother has been gone for about 17 years now. Thank you for the memories.
This is a really good song. However, in my opinion, her two best songs are, “I AM WOMAN” and “DELTA DAWN”. I think they already did “Woman” so next up, please try “Delta Dawn”. 😊
My favorite by her was "Delta Dawn" 3 years and still can't get but one of these women on female Fridays! Where's Soul Train when you need it? Come on Amber and give these awesome soul singers some love at least once.... Check out Stephanie Mills hits "I Feel Good All Over" " Comfort Of A Man" and the duet with Teddy Pendergrass "Feel the Fire" Still waiting on you to do other awesome soul singers like Phyllis Hyman(Living All Alone) and the most powerful singer Jennifer Holliday(And I'm Telling You) Betty Wright "No Pain No Gain" Lisa Fisher "How Do I Ease the Pain" Sylvia "Pillow Talk" Angela Winbush "Angel" Evelyn Champaign King "Shame"
They did Lisa Fischer's 'How Can I Ease the Pain' already. I have recommended a lot of the others you mentioned. Especially Phyllis Hyman's 'Living All Alone' video.
Love Helen Reddy, she was a huge star in the ‘70s. As a child I loved I Am Woman & Delta Dawn. There was another female power singer from the same period you’ve never down & would love, Melissa Manchester. I would recommend Don’t Cry Out Loud from her.
'No Way to Treat a Lady' & 'You and Me Against the World" Once she was in the audience at a Neil Diamond concert...He called her to the edge of the stage & got her to sing a little bit of one of his songs. She had an awesome voice.
You might also like Helen Reddy's hits "Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady" and "Delta Dawn" and "I Don't Know How to Love Him" (from the musical "Jesus Christ Superstar") and "Candle on the Water" (Oscar-nominated song from the 1977 Disney movie "Pete's Dragon, which Helen also acted in) and "You and Me Against the World."
So glad you did a reaction to this song. When I was a child, I was mesmerized by this song. Two other great Reddy songs are "You and me against the word" and "I don't know how to love him"
In the book of Psalms in the bible King David says that his body is fearfully and wonderfully made by God .Jesus Christ is our Creator . He died for our sins and demands our serenader to him. If we want to make it to Heaven to be with him for ever. We are born in sin .And God Hates sin. Thats why we need to live for him daily to make it to Heaven .We all need a relationship with Him. He is NOT a religion. Just like our Family is not a religion. They area a relationship. God is very loving. Thats why he sent his son Jesus Christ to be our sacrifice for our sins. So now our life is not our own .The Christian life has its ups and downs. But it is worth living for The Lord to be able to be with him FOR EVER .And not in Hell for ever with Satan who hates you. I hope who ever reads this will be thinking bout your eternity . Every one has a choice .Its up to you. I love every one. And I hope to see you in Heaven
Two Australian acts in one day - Helen Reddy is another Aussie. With Australia Day coming up on 26 January, maybe you could do an all Aussie day on your channel.
This is one if the 70s great story songs, sung to its slightly dark, ominous best by a 70s queen of pop, Helen Reddy. You are a little touched you know, Angie baby! Ho, boy!
This definitely brings me back to childhood. I was kind of like Angie myself, as I had few friends and spent an unhealthy amount of my time holed up in my bedroom listening to the radio. With that said, I never interpreted this song as "fun" but I think it's open to interpretation. It always seemed very dark to me. She kept the boy in her room? In the radio? She's definitely nuts, and probably dangerous. That's my take anyway. BTW, "Delta Dawn" was her other big hit back then.
I always thought it a quite dark song. She was taken out of school because of implied mental health issues. She stays in her bedroom listening to the radio and imagining partners. The neighbour boy has "evil on his mind", he sees her alone dancing and waits until her parents are out of the house to make his move. He enters her room with presumably bad intent, and from there all we know is the music is too loud and "something" happens to him that means he disappears. Does she kill him, is she keeping him hidden somewhere? Everyone just thinks he's died EXCEPT Angie, she knows and he's now her "secret lover". Chilling...... but EXCELLENT SONG!!!
Helen Reddy was an Australian-American singer, actress & activist. She had a lot of hits in the 70's such as "You & Me Against The World", "One Way Ticket", "I Believe In Music", "I Don't Know How To Love Him", "Peaceful", "Delta Dawn", "Leave Me Alone (Ruby Red Dress)", "Keep On Singing", "Emotion", "Ain't No Way To Treat A Lady", "Somewhere In The Night", "I Am Woman" etc. Sadly she passed away in 2020.
She was also in the movie Pete's Dragon. I was working at the local movie theater and this was back in the day when you had to walk up and down the aisle to make sure people didn't have their feet on the seats in front of them. I would go from this theater to the one playing Saturday Night Fever. Quite the contrast of music.
She's great. I remember being in 2nd grade or so when this song came out, and my oldest sister who was in high school had this album. So much Helen Reddy in our house when I grew up. One of my favorites. Check out her song "Peaceful."
Also don't forget to check out: Christina Aguilera - Ain't No Other Man - Candy Man (Both Great Horns !!) In person, she was very pleasant. Back in the late 90s, she was doing several nights in a play in Toronto. On that show's off night, my band had the theater. She made a point of coming over to us at breakfast the next morning to tell us she had enjoyed our show and wished us well. Just a very nice thing to do.
This late Australian woman was a real big star in the 70ies, and even Rock was my favorite music, I liked women like Helen Reddy and her songs too, and she looked real pretty, got a lovely voice.
TY for once again showcasing our beautiful Helen Reddy, still a sad and huge loss to us here in Australia. My all time favorites from her will always be these 2 songs..."I didn't mean to love you" and "You and me against the world" maybe you can add them to your soon to listen too file. Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘❤❤❤❤
Helen Reddy was known as the Queen of 70s Pop. I remember as a kid (I'm old) she always had a big hit on the radio from 1971 (I Don't Know How to Love Him) through to 1981 (I Can't Say Goodbye to You). In total she had 11 Top 20 pop songs and 3 number ones! If you do another reaction video please do some of her ballads like You're My World or her poppy songs like Delta Dawn! Love this channel. I think I'll sub if you do more Helen!
"Angie Baby" was written by songwriter Alan O'Day who became a one-hit wonder a couple years later with the fun song "Undercover Angel". This time it's about a teenage boy who lives in his imagination and has a secret lover who's an angel. It has a brighter mood than this song. I guarantee you both will love it!
As the curator of the largest Helen Reddy TH-cam page, I'm so happy that your channel finally recognized the talent of the Queen of 70s Pop herself! She had three No. 1 Hot 100 hits along with eight No. 1 Adult Contemporary Hits! Her voice is one of the few female voices of the rock era that's recognizable after one note! I would beg your channel to react to Helen's 1977 hit "You're My World" and/or her first hit "I Don't Know How to Love Him". I just subscribed to your channel hoping that we see more Helen Reddy song reactions! Sending much love your way! 1. You're My World - th-cam.com/video/91efbGtXGvk/w-d-xo.html 2. While stationed in Seoul South Korea in 1991, I met Helen Reddy while she was performing at a festival. I had always been a big fan and I was blessed to be able to have a nice conversation with this wonderful woman. It was something I will never forget. She was a gem in a rough world.
My most favourite of Helen's is I believe in music, and I love her version of I don't know how to love him. Not sure, but I think she was the first to record it and have a hit single with it.
Wow. I remember Helen. She was all over the place. Her voice is everything. Thanks. You guys, Rock. Peace and love. Btw, Annie Lennox ~ Right By Your Side
R.I.P. Helen Reddy.
Her fantastic version of "Delta Dawn" should be your next reaction.

Why not simply listen to the lyrics?
@@shyman99 Because Amber listened to the lyrics and she still didn't fully get it. She missed the supernatural element. Other people probably do too.

This late Australian woman was a real big star in the 70ies, and even Rock was my favorite music, I liked women like Helen Reddy and her songs too, and she looked real pretty, got a lovely voice.
She was an early Australian export to the USA ,along with Peter Allen ,olivia and the BG's.
Helen Reddy had a run of 'touched women' Ruby Red Dress from Leave Me Alone, Delta Dawn and Angie Baby. well maybe.
This was one of my absolute favorites back when it was new. Thanks for the reaction! I hope to see more HR!
Another great Aussie performer 🇦🇺
TY for once again showcasing our beautiful Helen Reddy, still a sad and huge loss to us here in Australia. My all time favorites from her will always be these 2 songs..."I didn't mean to love you" and "You and me against the world" maybe you can add them to your soon to listen too file.
Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘❤❤❤❤
My older sister had this single when I was a kid and I have to admit it creeped me out. Love Helen Reddy though.
Haven’t heard this song in forever. Forgot about this song. Love this song.
You guys have to hear Neil Sedaka's "Laughter in the Rain."

Hello from England 👋
Excellent 70s song ❤
She had such a unique voice! Loved Her
One of the top 5 female artists of the 70's! lots of hits. My favorites were "Peaceful" & "Leave Me Alone". Thanks guys!😎
Good Song. Ain't No Way To Treat A Lady is a great song from her.

I love your channel!!! OMG!
While stationed in Seoul South Korea in 1991, I met Helen Reddy while she was performing at a festival. I had always been a big fan and I was blessed to be able to have a nice conversation with this wonderful woman. It was something I will never forget. She was a gem in a rough world.
She is a great song interpreter - vocalist. Such emotions in her voice and style.
My favorite Helen Reddy song and Amber's critique was spot on.
I felt very connected to this song; at the time; few friends but I had my transistor radio.
