I used to provide after-school programs at elementary schools and use their classroom since 2012. Me and my husband opened our own after-school in 2017, and the business doing so good that in 2023, we bought a house for $700000 in CA all cash not loans.

1. Are you responsible for closing the school at the end of the day?
2. Do you profit split with the school?
3. Just to confirm, the school allows you to use their facilities for free?
4. What do you charge the parents?
5. Do you have access to the schools during the Summertime?
Hi Shauna! Great questions! Did you already download the roadmap linked in the description? You do not need to close the school at the end of the day because you are not a school employee. Usually the custodians handle it. You also do not profit split with the school; however, the school district can charge a rental fee (most do not if you are sponsored by the PTA/PTO/Booster club). The fee charged to parents depends on your location and most school are available in the summer as well. Be sure to download the roadmap to walk you through the process!

Thanks so much!!! Can i ask how the after school program is structed tax wise, LLC or non profit? I assume you are making money so LLC or Sole Prop.. Also, how do you get paid? by contracts? by semesters or hours? one payment or monthly? Many thanks!!!

How do you get paid? How do you negotiate pay with the school?
Hi Savannah! You set your own rate based on your school district's regulation and collect payments directly from the parents. The school itself does not set the rate or handle payments. I would love to start an afterschool program OF MY OWN in Texas, how would I go about doing that. I CURRENTLY work for one and I know that I could offer so much more to parents and children. I do not have a home to do it in I live in an apartment. I would like to have it at a school. I have parents ready to put their kids in but I just do not know where to start.
