    Omg this is so helpful, I’m 12 years old and just a few days ago I found scoliosis, i also have an S shape mine isn’t so serve. Mine is a 35 degrees and 30 degrees. I’m not sure if I need surgery or not. But if I do, I’m not as nervous thank you so much.

      Usually people with 45°-50° require surgery. You're probably gonna need a brace for a while and if it worsens you'll need surgery. Of course it's been 2 months, so maybe you're already past 45°? If you do end up getting surgery, just know that statistically, you're definitely gonna be fine. I'm getting surgery in the next couple of weeks!

    I’m 13 and I have a 90 degree curve I’m getting surgery sometime in May-June (I don’t know the date yet) I have severe back pain constantly and I’m reallyyy looking forward to surgery. The reason it took so long is because I was pretty young when I found out even though I had a curve that was close to severe. I’m really hoping the surgery will help some of my pain❤️

      Good luck with your surgery. You got this! I still have pain but not nearly the pain I had before surgery and now I can breath so I don't regret surgery at all. I hope you have as positive a surgical experience as on can have. My biggest advice is to stay on top of pain meds and make sure someone who can advocate for you is with you while in the hospital. I hope all goes well. You got this!

    • @365bumpinthat
      @365bumpinthat 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      my best advice: take the strong pain meds for as long as you need them, but switch to tylenol or advil when you're ready. The heavy pain meds can quickly become addicting.

    Hey! I have a 51 degree curve. I have a lot of questions about this all. I need surgery and was just wondering what the pain is like immediately after the surgery. (Does it ache or sting or..) also, after the surgery, how did you ease back into normal like and feel normal again? What does the shoulder blade pain feel like? Do you feel that after this surgery you are limited in terms of physical activities like sports. Is having good posture all the time uncomfortable? If you could answer these questions it would make me feel more confident and prepared for this life changing surgery.

    My 19 month old baby has scoliosis, we haven’t found out much about it yet we haven’t seen the specialist. We got news from one of the orthos that she will most likely need surgery to correct it and I’m worried because she’s so young. I’m worried about complications and recovery.

    • @jessicarangelyt
      @jessicarangelyt  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      maybe they will have her try the brace first. While the spine is still growing, this is a good method to try. it doesn’t correct the curve but it could help prevent it from getting worse. I know people that wear braces in elementary school, but i was in junior high when i found out I had scoliosis, So i started to wear a brace in 8th grade. The brace didn’t work for me, but I also only wore it when I went to sleep since it was a night time brace. There’s some braces you can wear throughout the day too.

      OMG SAME! So I had scoliosis surgery over 3 months ago now and my rib hump was very prominentt, and my right shoulder blade was really far out as well. After surgery, my right shoulder blade still sticks out but a little less. My shoulder blade hurts a lot though from time to time and feels different after surgery, but my surgeon told me he had to cut muscle tissue to get to my spine and it needs time to heal.

  • @victoriawhite4865

    Hi my name is Tori, I am 22 yrs old and I have scoliosis. I was diagnosed in 2010. I had a spinal fusion on May 7th 2013. My curves were 55 and 60 degrees when I had my surgery,now they are around 26 degrees. I also had another surgery in Nov. 2015 to remove my rods, screws, and brackets because of a late term spinal infection. I love seeing videos like this because it reminds me i'm not alone. To anyone getting ready for surgery or thinking of surgery,you got this!! On another note I was wondering if any of you ever deal with questions or comments like "your back hurts? and your how old?" or "you're still young, just wait until your older because it gets worse." I know people don't mean to be hurtful and I know they say things out of not knowing about scoliosis but man it gets frustrating. anyway thank you for letting me share a bit of my story.

    • @jessicarangelyt
      @jessicarangelyt  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Victoria White loved your story! i’ve also was wanted to know how it would be if i got my rods out. does it feel different and has ur scoliosis got worse since they have been taken out? did you get flexibility back? and was the recovery as bad as the first time?

    • @victoriawhite4865
      @victoriawhite4865 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The second surgery was easier, although recovering from surgery and fighting a massive infection at the same time is intense. Pain wise I found both to be incredibly painful (*note: I can't have Dilaudid or Morphine because of breathing complications I had with Dilaudid after the fusion. Tramadol and Norco are what are used with me and both are very hard on my body so I can't take them long so that kinda impacts my pain experience as well as just general limitation on what I can safely take because i'm so small). I didn't gain any flexibility back and as of right now my spine is stable. My surgeon doesn't think my spine will move, of course he didn't expect me to have an infection 2.5 yrs after fusion either lol. I am nervous about my spine moving and I've been trying to research the possibility but there doesn't seem to be very much info yet on scoliosis or surgeries associated with it.

    • @jessicarangelyt
      @jessicarangelyt  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh wow! how did you find out you had an infection 2.5 years after?

    • @victoriawhite4865
      @victoriawhite4865 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the summer of 2015 I had horrible back pain but thought I tore a muscle. By October my shoulder was swollen and pain was intolerable and other weird things were happening like I randomly fell asleep during choir rehearsal and I would get over emotional and lash out over nothing. That's when we knew something was very wrong. initially thinking I had a cyst or lipoma they did a procedure to try and draw fluid from my back but they failed. Eventually through lots of blood work, x-rays, mri's, and ultrasounds and almost a month in the hospital they figured out it was an infection. I'd like anyone who reads this to know that an infection like what I had and as far out as I had it is very rare, so please don't be frightened that you'll have it happen.

    Just turned 23 I've been having a 45 degree curve since I was 17 I was done growing back then. I don't have problems breathing or with my circulation, sometimes I get a random pain but it's very rare. I've read that your bones degrade as you get older so I get kinda nervous as to whether I should get surgery or not. Having a crooked back and twisted torso when your old does not sound pleasant. My mom wants me to get surgery. If I do have surgery I hope I can continue to do calisthenics, jump rope, run all that.

I never feel pain ... and i workout and stretch everyday and focus a lot on my core and back so hopefully I’ll be good as i age. But I’m not even sad/mad about it, it could be worse rn and I’ll just live my life. Thanks for your concern though❤️

    I am 32 years old. I had 3 scoliosis surgeries. My first when I was 14, second I was 15, third I was 17. I had broken my rods twice. I now have cages on the inside of my spine and all the other hardware as well. I had sat out for the entire year on each surgery as suggested by the doctors. I was always a very athletic kid. Was very afraid that I would lose it having to sit on the sidelines not working out or staying active. I graduated high school with a college scholarship for baseball. I do get the same pain right under my right shoulder blade as well. For the most part if you are smart about what you do, take care of yourself, and obey your limits set fourth by the dr. You’ll be ok. I’m still very active, I workout almost daily, I never lift more than 35 lbs. when I’m using my back to lift, and I feel fine. Thank you for sharing your journey and allowing me to do the same. Also, scoliosis comes from the Y chromosome. So, your mom’s side of the family.
